Match Thread Plymouth Argyle vs Coventry City [LC] (A) - Match Thread - Tue 25th August (7.45pm KO) (3 Viewers)

You told me that Torp was leaving and wouldn’t get any game time. Now you would have played him against Arsenal. I think he’ll play a lot and will be important.

I agree.

I just have a feeling that - once he has some good game time in the Premier League under his belt - he will improve. He certainly has the technical ability to be a very decent player at PL level.

As poor as Kitching was I was very impressed by their substitute Bim Pepple. Pinned Kitching repeatedly. Would expect a Championship club to look at him before the window closes.

As bad an error as it was and it's not he first time, I don't see Kitch going now if Woolfenden is out the door. Heard yesterday that's he's submitted (or been told to submit) a request.

I’m surprised that Bidwell & Lati haven’t been snapped up by a Championship club. At that level they still have a fair bit to offer.

Was Kitch's Brau moment last night.
He could well not be seen again.
I don’t think so, like MVE at Arsenal they’ll learn from their mistakes. If in doubt turn and play the ball back the way you are now facing.

Agreed! With tonight in mind, without MVE on the overlap, there were occasions where struggled in 1v1 situations. His crosses and long balls were good but we all know this.

The balance of the team was off. If JDS had started, Hamer probably is a lot more involved because JDS is great at holding possession high up the pitch. Bidwell just isn’t comfortable when pressed in those situations and will pass it back.

Same with Lati on the right, he doesn’t have the pace to take players on or do 1-2s with Sakamoto’s. They were the pressure point that Plymouth really attacked.
Milan tried that, against Arsenal

Red Bulls are flowing at work this morning

Made harder work of it than we needed to but least we are in the hat - EMC coming on changed the game

A nice winnable home draw in the next round please, right on cue I bet we end up with Norwich Away :ROFLMAO:

Woolfenden? I think it’s pretty clear he’s no longer wanted.

I fear Kitch never will learn. He seems to view every game as a physical challenge from the viewpoint of out grappling the opponent.

That is being systematically phased out of the game and in the Prem you have a camera showing every conceivable angle, I'd love to be wrong but don't see him changing and look at him as a penalty and red card waiting to happen at this level.

The thought of him and Thomas being paired against a top prem team is terrifying, Thomas is a bit limited (looked a lot more comfortable last night against lower quality opposition) but in fairness he does many things well, always the first to defend the goal line, can time tackles, etc. he just looks nervy on the ball against better sides and everything goes back to Rushworth making it harder for us to get up the pitch. He can be useful cover alongside a more accomplished CB like Amenda, I'm just not seeing Kitch being viable in the prem for us, imagine that performance last night against Haaland.

No he didn't.

He was running towards his own goal and Thomas came across to give him an option to pass back to.

Instead he tried to turn to play the ball back up the pitch and hit the Arsenal player, with the ball then falling for Arsenal.

I suspect he's "injured" but who knows. Surely someone will take him if it's only a loan.

We are still thin at CB even with Pinnock that's why I think Kitch will stay, Bidwell also used to cover but I'm assuming he might be gone too.

I think Thomas will become a decent CB and capable of watching what the classy Amenda does and learning from Pinnock ( once they get the leather jacket off him) At this point I'd prefer Lati as cover for CB rather than Kitching

I agree with virtually all of this, but I completely disagree that Yirenkyi should be in the 10. The one thing he isn't is a 10. We really need him to keep it simple, win the ball and give it to grimes or Rudoni. You watch most of his highlights, he wins the ball and lays it off. A great assist tonight but it feels like he's trying too hard, a flick pass to no one, an unsuccessful dribble when he could have laid it off, or trying to press someone who he doesn't need to leaving a massive hole.behind him.
The reason I'm suggesting him in that position is because at the moment he's trying too much and is going to lose the ball a lot. If he does that playing as one of the two deeper CM's then they're going to be straight through onto the defence. As a 10 at least there would be two CM's covering behind. The only other option at the moment if he doesn't stop trying too much is for him to be on the bench and play Grimes, Onyeka and Rudoni.

His position long term is an 8.

Offers might be pending. You never know.

First goal, tried to bounce it off the leg of the winger, so Cov would get a throw in.

And then his reaction was poor. You can dress it how you like it was still a mistake. He was also more at fault for the second goal than Rushworth. Once the ball comes across the six yard box Rushworth has no choice but to commit himself to getting something on the ball. The fact remains the ball came in too easily.

If MVE is going to step up and I’m not saying he won’t. But he does have to work on his defensive positioning and decision making. He makes loads of mistakes and has got away with them with pace and tenacity. He won’t have blistering pace in the Premier League and often he won’t get the second chance to redeem himself. He needs to learn quickly.

I thought Bobby was one of the players that looked as though he can cope with the step up to Premier. That was one of the plus points coming out of that very hard match v Arsenal. I only saw that on TV in London as could not get a ticket but was impressed. Other people where I live in the Manchester area rate Bobby .

In person last night at Plymouth , Liam to me showed he will not make that step up at all and had a very 'ropey' game. Its only one match. Thanks Liam you have massively contributed to our climb back to Premier League but dont believe 'Bobby and Liam' combination will work at Premier level.

Coaches have an awful lot of work to do to turn us into a team TBH. Few of the £20m crew looking very raw, players not gelling or seeming to know how they’re wanted to play yet. It’ll come, just hope it comes in time to keep us up. Pinnock and an experience CM would go a long way.
Totally agree. Yirenkyi, is going to be some player but watch back the highlights of the first half and Thomas is basically coaching him where to play and move. Hopefully Rudi and EMC both start against Hull and it should have more of a gelled team.

Glad lampard shares my thinking in terms of long cup run is good for fringe players

Love robins but he never agreed with me on this one lol

Not having MVE and JDS was the difference today. Neither Lati nor Bidwell player could comfortably resist the press in those wide channels.

When we moved the ball forward, we looked good.
I thought Bidwell did well getting forward, some decent crosses and should have scored himself. Lati however....... No comment. I hear Leicester are after him as he played under Russell Martin at Swansea 👋

I liked a few of their songs back in the day - Moving On up etc

Oh wait - that was M People

In fairness Lati isn’t a fb/wb.

Joel is another player that promotion has messed things up for. He has admirable qualities in terms of attitude, reading the game and is versatile . He often looked in Championship he was having to play at his very best to be able to meet the needs of a high ranking championship club ie us. He isnt a Premier player and last night wasnt a very good performance by him.

It would be sad to see him leave. Ideally he would be loaned out just in case we need him next year. However why would Joel accept that? He is good enough to contribute to another championship club.

Lati is too intelligent to contemplate playing for Leicester in level 3.

Not dressing it up at all. I was answering a post. He had a dreadful game .

You could potentially be correct, with me especially. But he can literally do no wrong no matter what. It’s always someone else’s fault. He’s had great moments. But he’s piss weak.

To be fair when you look what we paid for him he’s probably been one of our best buys. I don’t think anyone expected much from him at all.

He was pretty poor yesterday but did come into it when they tired and Mason Clark came on - the game changed totally at that point - I doubt he will start many games this season but deserves a go at some point
