🎶 Woooah who needs Callum Doyle, wooah with Perry in the middle, never gives the ball away 🎶

After tonight's performance we can save that money from signing Doyle spend the money on a striker.

Not a fan of the parting gift at the end..... "no were not looking at bringing in another striker"!?!?! With sicknote Hadji and can't trap a ball Ellis, were going nowhere! If we want to be serious, promotion candidates we cannot, CANNOT, keep relying on Rudoni to score the goals. We're a 15 goal striker short of a serious contender. We've got to be looking at a striker, surely?!?! If not, I'm tapping out! I can't watch Simms and BTA for another season!

Don’t think he’d say it in public, your basically saying you don’t believe in what you’ve got, pretty sure if bassettes going on loan then we’ll get someone in,

Haji Wright scored 12 goals missing 3 months of the season… even Simms scored 19 goals in his first season here.

Meanwhile, our 2 wingers between them didn’t get past 10 goals… that’s actually what’s holding us back.

How many goals in total did our strikers get last season?

What?

For a 1 striker formation if you told me our 9 would get 20 goals and our backup 7 id snap your hand off
We ideally need 30+ goals from Simms, Wright, BTA, it's possible but it's an area of the pitch I would like to see strengthened if we want to be in and around the top of the league table all season.

4th highest scorers in the league. 13th in goals conceded. I'd argue it's stopping them going in we need to concentrate on more.

Individually only 6 players scored more than Wright, and he missed 3 months.
I agree with Wright. Otherwise no.

So how many goals came from midfield?

I wasn't one of the 62% and wanted the GK we got.

Our wingers are not the issue. We need a quality 9 if Wright isn’t fit

Quick comparison:

- BTA + Simms = 4374 minutes played, 12 goals

- Sakamoto + EMC = 4842 minutes, 9 goals.

Let’s put aside that we do not have the depth required to play 4-2-3-1 without playing players out of position… 9 goals from 2 attacking players is just not good enough. For context, Leeds had 3 wingers with 9+ goals alone. Even Sheff U had 4 wingers who matched Sakamoto’s goal scoring tally.

EMC’s numbers are generally encouraging and with a trusted role and an injury free season, would reasonably expect to him to hit 12-15 goal contributions. I’m not worried about him at all really.

However, I just don’t get why Sakamoto is viewed as a sacred cow. He’s a good player but it’s an area where we can improve upon easily. He would make a great role/impact player.

The hyper fixation on bringing in a striker is missing the bigger picture really. Haji is the number one guy and he’s proven he’s a top end striker so wanting to replace more fringe players just isn’t a priority compared to areas on the pitch where we lack extra quality as well as depth.

You expect a striker to score more than wingers so not sure what youre getting at really

Not from the bench. Ironically, a lot BTA’s minutes would’ve been out wide too. Leeds sub striker (Joseph) scored 3 goals and 4 of their top goal scorers were wide players. Likewise, Sheff U had 5 wide in theirs and Keiffer Moore scored 5 goals last season from the bench (less than Simms lol).

In the case of Sakamoto, he had less shots and a lower xG than Bobby Thomas. Whilst, Thomas had a good season, there isn’t really any circumstances where a winger is outscored by a CB.

How to improve the starting 11 is staring you in the face: sign a winger or two who can get 12-15 goal contributions.

We don’t even own three wide players.

I am including Rapha who may get more minutes this season.

If we intend to play 4-2-3-1/4-3-3, we can’t really do that with Rapha, Sakamoto and EMC. If we’re only signing ‘cover’ players, we’re wasting our time.

Seriously, it won’t be that difficult to find a winger who scores more goals than Sakamoto.

Outside of Rudoni and Wright, there wasn’t much goals in the team.

What would we do if Rudoni got injured? He played a role in 33% of all our goals in the league last year. Which is mental.

People moan about BTA and Simms but we put in our best run of form playing them upfront together last season. Those two players are v clearly serviceable at this level. We don’t want to be in a position where we’re forced into tactical/formation changes because players in undermanned positions get injured. Specifically, Sakamoto, EMC and Rudoni. Any of those players get an injury, we either need to change formation or play another player out of position.
