I'm pretty sure most would be delighted if he signed, it's just not the end of the world of he doesn't.

Well yeah, he'll have quite a few offers on the table and with the Championship still playing out he has ample time to weigh them up. Quite surprised he turned down an extension at Villa to be honest but I trust the club to not go over the odds to bring him here.

I’m surprised other clubs at Champ level would be that interested. Don’t get me wrong, really like him as a player, but he wasn’t the shining star of someone like Walsh. Suppose as he’s free there are more clubs willing to take a punt and see how it goes...and I think I’ve just answered my own question.

Would be a great signing, and a real shame if we’re not able to do a deal, however from his POV you’d be holding out for the best contract, be crazy not to. The best contract also invariably means that club really rates him, so he’ll have a good opportunity for game time

The o hare love in was utterly embarrassing in the first place to be brutally honest. Twitter folk constantly @him with pen emojis and stuff all the time. I know it's the way of the world now. Same with Hamer.

You could be the shittest player in the world but as long as you reply to Tweets and Instagram posts fans you will become a favourite and your ability is clouded.

Ryan Haynes, The Edge and Bright are to name but a few.

Someone suggesting he would earn 10k a week at Forest? I think not.

I think we would be offering around 7k a week whereas a couple of others might be in for him who may offer slightly more.

The grimmer love reached uncomfortable levels of cringe. Love ins with opposition chairman is another current favourite too

Bit unfair on Bright “I’m Staying” Enobakhare. Haynes was and always will be shite. Edgenguele was average at very best. Enobakhare dragged us up the table.

I’d like to agree with you on Haynes BUT a Newport supporting colleague of mine reckons he’s been really good for them.

I rate him highly. Great touch, good vision and can ride a challenge. Certainly technically good enough for the Champ.

If we retain him then Robins has continuing from last season (providing Hamer fills the Walsh void). Clearly popular in the dressing room too, again retaining the core and spirit from last season.

There was always a player in there but his confidence was shot being in the team for too long under Presley and he never recovered. One preseason game he poorly controlled a pass that went out in front of me and he was swearing at himself and clearly crest fallen. Just a mis control in an early pre season game. The move to somewhere with less pressure could have done him the world of good.

It is amusing how people perceive or rate players. Callum O'Hare, was lying on a pitch for what seemed a lifetime, claret everywhere, got bandaged up and carried on. Played with stitches in his head and still put in a display. I wish all players had that mentality. When he gets the ball he often made things happen, scored a few important goals an set up a fair few as well. Hard work and dedication is always a thing I look for in a player. I can overlook mistakes as long as heart and effort are displayed along with the right attitude. He is not the finished article but I think he has loads of potential and could be our next Huckerby given time

Yes bad example of Bright's ability. But the love in when he said he would stay and he didn't etc was remarkable.

My point being is social media clouds fan's judgement on player's ability and loyalty.

That’s actually quite sad to hear. I guess it’s happened to a few players. He was thrust into the first team at a young age.
There were moments (not just that turn he did) where I thought he was going to ‘push on’ and be a lower league Gareth Bale, terrorising defenders; whipping in crosses etc. Maybe Newport is where it starts!

If he doesn’t sign its not the end of the world we have Jamie Allen who has Champo experience and maybe we can use Jodi or Jobello as a CAM if needed because it wouldn’t be a bad shout

Haynes was an absolute liability, he could play well for 80 minutes and then have a 10 minute spell that resulted in the opposition taking advantage of his defensive frailties. The combination of him and Burge was an absolute shitstorm.

Same position.. played top level football...Walsh has had a handful of championship games. Think its at least a like for like if not better replacement
I hope you are right and I am looking forward to seeing him in Sky Blue but any suggestion that Walsh would not cut it in the Championship is bollocks. If Walsh is not Championship level then we really are going to struggle.

No argument from me there.

Our capitulation at the Ricoh against Luton Town when we were 2 - 0 up was a classic case of the fragility of both Haynes and Burge. I still feel the pain. I think Stokes returned after that game.
They were calamitous alright. Confidence issues for both players? Both had real moments of brilliance, I remember that save from Burge at Newport..

He was terrible and utterly ill disciplined in terms of holding his position - some game I remember goal went in and the left back was trotting around midfield

Yeah. Whatever the reason he was ultimately not good enough, no doubt about it.
I seem to recall him allegedly being scouted for ‘bigger’ clubs and he played a fair bit for us. He must’ve impressed someone at some stage.

Jury’s out on Jodi Jones. We’ve only really seen him properly in a relegation fodder L1 team and half a L2 season.

This is an interesting point. Jones could tear up at league 2 level. We have no idea whether he we be able to make the leap to the championship as much as I love the lad.

I would be looking to loan Jodi Jones out to a L1 team next season at least for the first half of it. He needs to be playing week in, week out now, which he is unlikely to do for us. It will give him a chance to prove himself and gain his confidence back without the pressure of doing it in the Championship.

Centre midfield we currently have Kelly, Allen, Hamer, Shipley. So even if we strengthen there are players who can do a job - it may be that one or two can't quite cut it, but similarly one or two may step up a level. If we continue with our playing style, I'm hoping that Mason can step up, or we need to find a left wing back, as our style of football was dependent on Dabo/McCallum taking us up the pitch. Really hoping Allen stays injury free, as I think he could be massive for us next season.
