Once again covered in Wasps merch.

Bit of fun, or is it disrespectful?

Saw it hours but didn't want to bring it up as people would just see it as anti wasps from me.

Here is the picture for anyone who is interested.

Never thought of Jimmy hill as much of an icon really. Introduced all seated stadiums and got players wages raised, probably my two least favourite things about modern football.

Don't get me wrong, I am sure the person who did this means no offence, but it is the one thing at that stadium that does not belong to them. Cover the ground in what you want, but leave the statue.

But as a Coventry fan he should be an icon. He built the club up to what it was.

tbh it probably is just a bit of fun, nothing sinister about it but its still a little bit degrading/mickey take out of us, I'd imagine there would be uproar if a CCFC fan messed around with anything of Wasps around the Ricoh on our match day.

you can't blame him for the current wage structure , blame sky tv and the pl.
Football was fine for 30+ years after the maximum wage was removed.

What a ****.

The comment too: [h=1]"My boy. Marking coventry how it should be. Sorry Jimmy Hill! ;) I know you're laughing too!"[/h]

FFS.

Its one of them, I don't want to look like I'm overreact to do it but its definitely something I'm uncomfortable with.

Tbh he looks ridiculous standing outside the Wasps club shop now anyway. We need an area that is identifiable as our own if as people on here believe our long term future is at the Ricoh, he would be better standing outside the sky blue bricks or underneath the Coventry badge or something.

poor Jimmy probably doesn't even know whats going on so he wouldn't be laughing at it, would be interesting to hear how his family feel about it.

annoys the life out of me, but what can we do ?

There is a statue outside a stadium that the football club don't own, mearly play in 30 odd times a year tops.

it sort of felt like home, but now it isnt and it doesnt.

it would be very easy here to have a dig at TF and SISU about a lack of activity for the new promised stadium where this statue and the memorial garden / bricks etc can actually have a home, but i will resist

It is pretty disrespectful.

I agree. It is on their land, and it isn't like we can move it.

No doubt if there is a new stadium there will be outrage about it being moved.

I'd hope not but wouldn't surprise me, just looks silly at the moment seeing Jimmy Hill with all the Wasps signage in the background. Even if it is decided we will be staying long term I still think he should be moved towards an area outside the Ricoh that looks more like the home of CCFC.

What about the memorial garden and people's bricks? How long until that is fucked off?

Probably not long. In fact, the club may have to buy a shed to put at Ryton to put all the seats, bricks and the statue in when they want to remove them!

Wasps own it now, they will move all of it at some point, just as I would if i bought a house .

The sooner we move the better and all of these bits which are personal to CCFC fans (me included) can be added to our new home.

Very symbolic. Wasps won't give a toss about us now their bank account is stuffed with bond cash. I really don't like much about England these days.

Chief Commentator!
It would happen whatever the statue was. Jimmy is just in the wrong place at the wrong time!

imagine a rugby game at Fulhams ground, and Michael Jackson being covered in wasps merchandise. Would cockneys be labelling that disrespectful? Or Sir Tom Finney at Preston?

I think a statue of Michael Jackson is disrespectful as it is.

I'm sure the Preston fans would find it disrespectful if it was sir Tom finney's

What if we moved the statue to the city centre? I know in Hanley (Stoke city centre) there is a statue of Sir Stanley Matthews.

There are still those who refuse to believe our future now lies away from the Ricoh, whether they come round in time who knows. Doesn't help we have a council who have seemingly written off the city's football club, they should be doing everything they can to help the club build within Coventry but that's just my opinion.

All harmless in isolation but it just goes towards the overall attitude of Wasps and the club towards CCFC.
Agree with the attitude bit.
All nicey, nicey, say the right things to get the deal done, then fuck you all.
You would have thought a bit of respect might be given to JH. If that was done to Billy Bremners in Leeds or Shankley or Jock Stein, do you think that would be construed as funny ? not a chance !

Yer, we had an election 48 hours ago and the people of Coventry elected the council back in. Our owners need to build a new home asap so we can display this statue, bricks, garden etc proudly, as opposed to having a space in someone elses garden

I am not too sure how they can move the memorial garden.

Last time there were talks of moving the garden and statue there was absolute outrage, I think after seein things like this there should be nothing but support for us getting our own home.
