Then you skip past the photos and see this:

Why do so many football fans value money more than the person's ability? The reason why so many people turned against Rooney was because of his wages yet what right do they have to even know how much he earns.

Didn't have the best of times here but he was made a scapegoat a lot of the time. Mckenzie was probably an equally worse buy imo but he didn't get anywhere near as much stick. He spoke out against our fans which was wrong and a big mistake but there's a case to say that a lot of what he said wasn't too far from the truth. Some of our fans just didn't give him a chance. The sending off against Burnley sticks in my mind as one example. He was completely slaughtered for it but it was just a mistimed tackle due to him slipping on the turf. Straight away he got up and made sure the lad was ok (Duff?). Even before that he was being booed when coming off the bench.

Never worth 600k or 10k a week but it's not his fault that's what was offered. I know I would take it! Fair play for making the best of things and good luck to him in the future.

I agree ajs..The Mirror are attempting to use him as a scapegoat to highlight the problems faced by footballers post career. They are basically trying to ridicule him when they have no right, but to the average football fan it is an interesting read. Good that he is keeping is head down and getting on with what he has to, fair play. I just don't understand why he isn't still playing? Not over the hill and surely he would be getting a couple of grand a week in the lower leagues either this or that side of the border? Perhaps he's fallen out of love with the game?

It's down to definition I'd say.
In other words what is a fall from grace ? you appear to base it on money,but to others it could be something else like being homeless when once he had a big house.In my mind having a job and any job is something to be proud of,no matter how much you earn.I'm a window cleaner struggling to get by a lot of the time,but love the job and being outdoors.

As I said, one wasn't really his fault. We've had players with worse attitudes that were loved by the fans. When a decent cross got put into the box (very rare!) he generally got it on target or in the back of the net.

Bit unfair some of the comments saying he was a shit/rubbish footballer as depends what team he is in and what service the big man was getting - admittedly he was not the best for us but then that's what wolves fans were saying when Clarke returned to them most of them were shocked and calling him crap
