You've got to provide for your family.
Good grief! Now that is a fall from grace if ever I saw one..although his current wage is now on a par to that of his football ability!! Typical Mirror story, failing to grasp the truth............. 'well loved by the fans'
"Star" and "ace", have they got the right guy?
Good luck to the bloke. He gets out of bed and works for his family.
Exactly. The sneering tone of that article is horrible.
As a footballer he was a joke but the bloke has a family and is working to support him and them.
And why is it a fall from grace ? A fall from grace would find him homeless, jobless, and rummaging in bins.
I agree with ajsccfc the article is out of order. And I'm a Mirror reader !
Fair play to him, a much more respectable profession than being a Daily Mirror reporter at least he earns an honest living.
Ex City players have worked on building sites, factories, warehouses, and Micky Gynn is a postman.
None of these have "fallen from grace" as they put it but as they're careers ended those who decided to leave football got employment where they could.
It's this part that gets me:
Then you skip past the photos and see this:
A man honestly and sensibly answering questions he doesn't even need to. What a BLAST! Can you feel the rage in every word?
Nice way to crash and burn.
So now I earn more than Kevin Kyle, the irony is unreal.
How isn't it a fall from grace?! £10k/wk to £400/wk?!
Mad to think I've seen him put what is more than a couple of months of his wages now into a machine in a bookies!
You've got to know when to quit. When we got three jackpot repeaters on Sir-Win-A-Lot in the Walsgrave, a lot of that sweet £45 went on chasing the high. Good week though!
And your point is?
I felt disgusted when Kyle played for City. Okay, he wasn't the best we ever had but the down right envy of City fans towards how much he earned was sickening. In our great country it used to be taboo to discuss a person's salary. What right or what concern is it for me to know what another man earns? KK has once again shown he is a good guy.
Incredible that. Just shows footballers outside the prem need to be careful with their money.
I never knew people with a serious gambling addiction along with other things was a good 'family' guy.
He is the epitome of a fool.
So you are saying that a person with an addiction or 'had' a problem can;t be a good person? Your suggestion is weird and shows what many people think in this country, that money is the be all and end all.
Why do so many football fans value money more than the person's ability? The reason why so many people turned against Rooney was because of his wages yet what right do they have to even know how much he earns.
Beduff I can see what moral foundation you possess and good luck to you.
If he's kicked the habit and is now working hard to provide for his family in spite of needless press intrusion, that seems pretty decent.
Never liked his as a player or a person but fair play to him. He's getting his hands dirty like the rest of us in the "real world". Hard to imagine a lot of other ex-pros doing the same.
Go read up on addiction (and compassion while you're at it)
Fair play to the guy, don't see why he should be hounded by the press to be honest.
Shit footballer, but always came across as a decent bloke.
Me too Nick, the bookies by the Litten Tree. $20 after £20 into the roulette machine while he was betting on the dogs and horses.
Didn't have the best of times here but he was made a scapegoat a lot of the time. Mckenzie was probably an equally worse buy imo but he didn't get anywhere near as much stick. He spoke out against our fans which was wrong and a big mistake but there's a case to say that a lot of what he said wasn't too far from the truth. Some of our fans just didn't give him a chance. The sending off against Burnley sticks in my mind as one example. He was completely slaughtered for it but it was just a mistimed tackle due to him slipping on the turf. Straight away he got up and made sure the lad was ok (Duff?). Even before that he was being booed when coming off the bench.
Never worth 600k or 10k a week but it's not his fault that's what was offered. I know I would take it! Fair play for making the best of things and good luck to him in the future.
I agree ajs..The Mirror are attempting to use him as a scapegoat to highlight the problems faced by footballers post career. They are basically trying to ridicule him when they have no right, but to the average football fan it is an interesting read. Good that he is keeping is head down and getting on with what he has to, fair play. I just don't understand why he isn't still playing? Not over the hill and surely he would be getting a couple of grand a week in the lower leagues either this or that side of the border? Perhaps he's fallen out of love with the game?
Mmm...his attitude never helped the cause. Neither did all those sending offs.
It's possible he's just doing this job during the summer while out of season, he's at that age where he'd been floating between short-term contracts with clubs assuming he's still playing.
My daughter swears she had Nathan Cameron fit her Virgin TV equiptment a couple of seasons back ,right name and a Brummy accent.
Wooooo pretty shocked .
Is that a euphemism for something else?
No SR and i did try to word It carefully.
It's down to definition I'd say.
In other words what is a fall from grace ? you appear to base it on money, but to others it could be something else like being homeless when once he had a big house. In my mind having a job and any job is something to be proud of,no matter how much you earn.I'm a window cleaner struggling to get by a lot of the time, but love the job and being outdoors.
Bollocks to what anybody says or thinks !
As I said, one wasn't really his fault. We've had players with worse attitudes that were loved by the fans. When a decent cross got put into the box (very rare!) he generally got it on target or in the back of the net.
still on good money for him.
Bit unfair some of the comments saying he was a shit/rubbish footballer as depends what team he is in and what service the big man was getting - admittedly he was not the best for us but then that's what wolves fans were saying when Clarke returned to them most of them were shocked and calling him crap
He was obviously a decent footballer if he appeared 93 time for Sunderland and represented his country on 10 occasions, sounds like to much time on his hands after training instead of investing the money for his future he blew it at the bookies
Trouble is there is a Casino on the fuckin ship, should of tried harder at being a footballer nob
He wouldn't need to work so hard for his family if he didn't spunk the £8k per week we were paying him in the casino. Had the misfortune of sitting next to him at the poker table and he was a poor man as well as a poor footballer.
Separate names with a comma.
