But you are assuming buying land at green belt prices and selling at development prices. It aint gonna happen.
In addition the assumption is that the stadium will attract business like the Ricoh, however demand will be minimal for a league 1 stadium out of town.
Its not going to happen..

Since when did "economic sense", mean anything to Shitzu? We all know that if and when they build this imaginary stadium, Coventry City FC(or any other name) will not not own it. They will merely be tenants in the same way as they were at the Ricoh.

Say just for the argument that Otium bought a large chunk of land and only used 1/3 for the actual stadium.
Would it be unthinkable that someone would buy a long lease from Otium to set up a business?
And would it be unthinkable they would pay a lot more than Otium paid for that piece of land?

All that is totally dependant upon exactly where this imaginary piece of land is.

I think about 10 different posters have said the only sensible solution would be to have stadium and club under the same umbrella - in the same group. You might even have noticed that Les Reid said it in his response to skyblusquirrels blog change.
So if Otium is 'the club' and Holdings own the stadium (to minimize risk) then the club and stadium will be in the same group - owned by the same owners. It will NOT be the same as being tenants at the Ricoh!

Of course. And also the plans for the other businesses. It's a synergy where each add much more value to the complex than they would hold on their own.

just needed to wade in on this debate as both a queen fan and a joy division fan.

queen is one of them bands where every member was truly talented and if all members had never met and started 4 separate bands each band would have been huge in their own right, you can say the same about joy division. the lead singer of queen died tragically young when he still had a lot left to give, you can say the same about joy division. joy division may not have been as commercially successful as queen but they were a huge influence on a large number of extremely commercially successful bands and their DNA runs in a number of hugely commercially successful bands, U2 for 1 and there haven't been many bigger than them in terms of sales and stadium sell outs.

An imaginary piece of land that has remained invisible to the many property developers who specialise in identifying such opportunities - sound like a place in a children's story.

By the way..I know the song "Is called I want it all"..I was being ironic by quoting "days of our lives".

Queen ..fantastic band..sheer heart attack is a masterpiece...to say they just a singles band is just plain wrong.

Now I have to confess I like Marillion aswell :slap:

My current fave are Dream Theater ..if you think Queen was pompous...check Dream Theater Out..as musicians they could be likened to footballers.... they have Messi, Peli , Van Persie and Carl Baker in their ranks for sure.

How come the mighty Zeppelin didn't get a mention :thinking about:

Joy Division not for me ..but Siouxsie and the Banshees, Buzzcocks,Penetration , X Ray Spex all mighty fine.

Oh yes, Petrucci can play. The punk thing wiped all those 70's stadium rockers/prog rockers of the map afaiac, but I do like later proggy bands such as It Bites and (it Bites/Marillion side project) Kino. And Dio-era Sabbath, I think Die Young was their finest moment!

OK then I'll wade in...

Joy Division I used to promote in my DJ'ing days and it all began on Student Nights in Loughborough. talented and surrounded in stories. Now Queen on the other hand were a world wide phenomenon and while they had lots of commercial success they owed it to Freddie without doubt one of the most gifted talents. Did I like either of these bands? Actually not particularly, just liked some of their stuff. Like Queen or not they were outstanding.
A band I liked back before Queen really was 10cc Another talented lot who went on having more success in other guises (Godley and Cream etc)

Forgot about Xray Spex. Talking of Buzzcocks, always been big fan of Magazine - very influential for the post punk era. Always played on Gideon Coe's show on 6music. Psychodelic FUrs were on his show in concert from 1985 - fantastic (saw them at Hammersmith Odeon in 87 - same day as we beat Stoke in the 5th round of the cup)

Too Much Love was a composition by Brian and two others (non Queen) which wasn't written about Freddie despite the apparent links and was intended for the Miracle album. There can't be much doubt that the success of Queen was down in no small part to Freddie being the showman that he was. I was first introduced to them watching Live Aid (on a telly that now seems like the size of a postage stamp) and I was mesmerised they were so smooth polished and had the attention of the entire crowd. Of course I didn't know at the time they were the only ones* who had bothered to rehearse beforehand, so of course it was going to look better than those who hadn't.

For me Innuendo, the Miracle and Princes of the Universe are three of my favourite tracks followed by Seven Seas of Rye and the Highlander version of A Kind of Magic. Barcelona is the best non Queen piece Freddie did and I have both the original album and the orchestral one that Jim Beach organised that was just released.

No it wouldn't to all of that, it's how the Ricoh was part funded after all.

Innuendo will always remain my favourite Queen track. Despite getting to number 1 I still feel it is underrated. Remember hearing it for the first time, aged 14, and being utterly spellbound by it.

Come on "The show must go on", is surely the best track on that album.

I never understood the appeal. "Rockfolk" always laughed at them. The real diehard fans always struck me as a bit wierd as well - cultish - similar to fans of Barry Manillow or Cliff.

Not biting mate. All I will say is that they had a great drummer, possibly the best guitarist of his generation and the best front man of all time. Anyone laughing at them must have been idiots.
