I do get why he won it.

But I still feel a small part of the reason we didn't get to the WC final was he dropped so deep against Argentina that the entire team was forced back. I get that he wants to be involved in games, but sometimes dropping deep so you can get the ball is counter-productive.

Not saying it was just his fault as I feel it was instruction from the bench to all-out defend, but we do set up based on his forward position and if he's deep the rest of the team will be too.
 
Forget just England (even there he has 91 in 125) his goal record at club level is insane. 156 in 159 for Bayern, 73 for club and country in the year, over 500 career goals. Won the German league and cup double, semi finals of tge Champions League, 3rd place WC with England too. We have nobody else even near him to challenge. Works hard and seems a decent bloke and family man too.
 
Well deserved one of the most consistent players in the world,is he available in January 🤣
 
I'm surprised they didn't give it to a more commercially popular player but they did the right thing. Definitely deserved.

You do understand the difference between individual and team awards I assume?

Without him England wouldn't be close to winning anything. Would George Best with Northern Ireland or Ryan Giggs/Gareth Bale with Wales be undeserving because they didn't win anything at international level?

I don't know. I really don't care.

I don't begrudge him at all. He's had a great year. But football is a team game. I've never really understood the obsession with these individual awards. They mean very little in the grand scheme of things.
 
I always make multiple posts about things I don't care about too.
