Finally got round to watching - The Dog Stars.

Boy oh boy, Ridley Scott has completely tanked the book with this mess of a film.

The book is outstanding, not far off as being as good as Cormac McCarthy`s - The Road, so why would you chop the book to bits - keeping some bits the same, altering other bits and adding new stuff ?

The book spends ages on character development, which gives you a connection with the characters, where as the film just jumps straight in with no real explanation of who anyone is or how they ended up in the circumstances that they find themselves in, leading to the film feeling flat and disjointed and also leaving you scratching your head about what`s going on.

With a cast of Jacob Elordi, Josh Brolin, Guy Pearce and Margaret Qualley, it would be almost impossible to make a film as bad as this, but somehow they`ve managed it.

If ever a film deserves to be done again properly, it`s The Dog Stars.

Ridley Scott has been serving up some real dross recently.

Watched Resident Evil and Hope this past week.

Resident evil a good brains at the door watch. Hope started excellent then just went downhill after the first half.

Been to see Digger tonight. Absolutely loved it. Not sure I can say much more without it being a spoiler.

I would just say go and see it ASAP so you see it without it being spoiled.

If it wasn't for the subject matter there would definitely be some performances in there being talked about for awards.

It`s been absolutely trashed by the critics ?

It's weird, because even if you don't like it, or don't get it, I'm not sure how you can objectively say its that bad.

Do like the new ads, given the subject matter, that basically highlight that the US and their cronies are trashing the film but the reviews elsewhere are great.

That`s why I always wait for audience reviews over the critics, as there`s a lot of snobbery with some of the critics and quite a few agendas going on too.

This was on BBC 2 at the weekend, so it`ll be on Iplayer - The Order.

Jude Law is good in this, but the rest of the cast almost feel like an afterthought, which spoils it a bit.

Based on a true investigation, Law plays a burnt out FBI agent, who takes a post out in Hicksville USA, to wind down and keep out of the way until retirement.

He stumbles across an ultra far right Neo Nazi group, who are robbing isolated banks using extreme levels of violence and putting the pieces together, he realises that they are robbing the banks to fund a serious terrorist campaign of atrocities, aimed at promoting their Neo Nazi beliefs.

Nicholas Hoult plays the lead terrorist very well, charming, but sinister at the same time.

Like I said, the rest of the cast let it down, as they almost feel like they`re just there to fill in some of the blanks.

I believe it came from a book, which I`m going to get, as with all that`s going on in the US at the moment, it`s quite topical.

The initial bids deadline for producing Doctor Who has passed. Not been made public who has bid but Deadline are reporting that the person behind Line of Duty has bid which is an interesting one.
Deadline can reveal that the Line of Duty showrunner is spearheading a bid to produce Doctor Who after the BBC launched a competitive tender, a bake-off-style process in which producers have put forward plans to regenerate the iconic sci-fi series.

We are told Hat Trick Mercurio (HTM), the production company Mercurio runs with Hat Trick founder Jimmy Mulville, has submitted a proposal with Mercurio attached as an executive producer. Mercurio is a sci-fi fan and created BBC series Invasion: Earth in the 1990s. He has since become one of the nation’s pre-eminent TV scribes, with credits including Bodyguard and Cardiac Arrest. HTM declined comment.

Me and my daughter watched the first 2 episodes of Celebrity Traitors last night, Very good so far James Blunt comes across as a nice guy. Ross Kemps playing up to his image Richard E Grant is hilarious

It's a good line up this year, although the two American's are a bit irritating.
Ross Kemp cracks me up. He really is the same character who he portrays on Extras.

I still find the daytime activities dull. They need to add in some that cause more tension and intrigue within the group.

Monster: A Lizzie Borden story on Netflix.
I thought it was slightly better than the Ed Gein one, but still not great. So much padding and sensationalism to what is quite a limited and unknown story.
Always wonder how Ryan Murphy keeps getting these shows, but I'd imagine his name pulls in a lot of viewers.

Just back and came on to say the same thing.

Fillum of the year for me.

It's not the movie you expected from the trailer.

Bit late to the party on this but watched a couple of episodes of here we go on the iplayer . Really good great cast including Jim Howick , Katherine Parkinson and Tom Basdan.

Just finished the 'Westies' series.
Irish /Italian gang drama in 80's NY..

J. K Simmons and Titus Welliver (Bosch) are both great in it
Would highly recommend. 👍

Looking Forward to Blue Planet III later this year, amazing that Attenborough is still doing this at 100 yrs old.

Thanks, I might give it a go.
Nothing has filled the hole that The Sopranos left, although Gamorrah and Kin were both very good.

Have you watched Love/Hate ? I'm not saying its as good as The Sopranos but its better then Kin in my opinion

Winter is rubbish with so many absurd plot holes but it’s slick and glossy and pretty good fun. A McDonald’s and not a Michelin restaurant but at least it’s presented well so more a Five Guys.

100%

Love / Hate is much more raw and real, with the metamorphosis of the lowly foot soldier and family man, Nidge, into the monster he becomes, King Nidge.

You go from really liking his character, to wanting bad things to happen to him, which is really clever writing ( imo )

The problem I`ve found with Love / Hate, is that people started watching it and then were put off by how low budget the first series was.

No I haven't. I think it was recommended to me on here as well, so I should get it on the list!

Have you watched Suburra : Blood on Rome ?

A whisker away from being as good as Gomorrah.

Organised crime and the Vatican, with one of the central characters being a gay Romany gypsy gangster, who has to hide his sexuality from everyone, for the obvious reasons.

Fantastically well written and very brave, going after the Vatican and including a main character who`s gay.

No I've not, but it sounds interesting.
Thought I'd give Gomorrah a chance ages ago and I think I watched it all in three weeks so anything similar I'm up for

I often thought Darren's story arc was interesting , initially came over to visit his family didnt want to get involved in any nonsense

It was the attack on Tommy that turned Nidge in my opinion, showed how truly evil he was

Matchbox the Movie on AppleTV. Absolute cliched nonsense with the most tenuous of links to Matchbox cars.

That said a decent cast give it their all. Perfect if you want something to kill a couple of hours with zero need to engage your brain or really even pay much attention.

Lovely night indoors last nigh with my wife and daughter latest 2 episodes of The Traitors and a takeaway from ginger orange

Not sure if you'll be interested Jim but Stuart Carolan who wrote love hate has written a new drama called Tall Tales and murder. He wrote it with Chris Addison { The Thick of it} It's on the dodgy stick started a couple of weeks ago. I haven't watched it yet but its got some good revies and a really good cast including Aiden Gillen , Phillipa Dunne { Amandaland and Derry Girls} and Packy Lee from Peaky Blinders

Just looked it up, sounds very good.

It`s premieres on BBC1 on 3rd November, so I`ll defo watch it (y)

Early doors is genius, I was brought up in the pub trade and can relate to a lot of the characters, Phil Mealey is touring next year talking about the show.

To the Regiment

I`ve just looked at the local theatre at the end of Feb, there`s about a dozen tickets left 😲
