Best TV shows or movies you can recommend (5 Viewers)

Quantity over quality, with the odd gem now and again.

The general public get what it wants, an almost constant churn of mindless pap.

Really does feel like they just throw endless stuff at the wall and every once in a while, something good sticks.
The big names draw millions of viewers in, but it doesn't seem to matter if the content is any good or not.

When I first subbed, they hosted all the brilliant Mike Flanagan horror series and they had loads of good documentaries but now it's just
endless crap to wade through.

However, talking of gems on Netflix, just finished series 5 of the outstanding Israeli series - Fauda.

It starts off post October 7th massacre and kidnappings by Hamas, which threw me a bit, as I didn`t remember anything about the special Israeli military unit that it`s follows having any involvement in the massacre.

When I did some reading, it turns out that they had the entire series 5 written, then the October massacre happened in 2023, so they ripped the script up and re wrote the whole series, but based it around the massacre.

Nothing much happens up until episode 6 and then it really kicks into gear, with two episodes completely dedicated to the massacre, which are a very tough watch and also very moving at the same time. ( some very graphic scenes )

As always with Fauda, the writing is excellent and it`s got more awards written all over it.

Plus, despite being written by Israelis, it still manages to remain balanced.

Brilliant.

Netflix has paid a small fortune to a consultancy to find out why their numbers aren't as good as expected and why the number of viewers keeps dropping off between first and second seasons.

The answer was the huge gap between seasons. By the time things came back people had either forgotten they existed or forgotten what had happen and with the vast majority of shows did not care enough to rewatch.

The fact they had to get external consultants in to tell them this says a lot.

Makes complete sense. I'm still yet to finish Stranger Things, I simply cannot be arsed.

Only to be picked up by smaller production companies, who go onto make great tv and a popular shows.

If you want something intense to watch, I would recommend 9/11: One Day in America.

Absolutely insane documentary from the attacks, with a lot of footage I have never seen. It's actually an incredible piece of work they have done.

We're just oversaturated with TV/Movies now. Things don't have time or space to grow and everyone is watching something different.

I'm not anti-choice and don't want 3 channels again or anything, but we just seem to have gone too far with the number of streaming services and a lack of patience with some shows.

I'll never forgive them for cancelling Mindhunter. The two available seasons are brilliant and still worth watching, but they're building up to the 'big bad' and it never gets explored.

Surprised no one else ever picked it up and ran with it, as it was such proper quality and had a massive following.

Cameron Britton, who played Ed Kemper, the Co Ed Killer, performance was spell binding.

He was that believable, it was like watching the real Ed Kemper.

One of my films of the year, outstanding in every way.

This was a film that should`ve been dry and a bit dull, but it kept you captivated all the way through.

The cast, was a real mix and each and everyone of them worked perfectly.

Some outstanding cinematography along the way too.

Brendan Fraser as Eisenhower must be in for an award, along with Andrew Scott and Kerry Condon.

Also makes you realise how much we owe, to people you`ve never heard of, but quite possibly helped us in winning the war.

Can`t recommend this one enough.

They weirdly unofficially crossed over to Mindhunter in that Ed Gein Netflix series, but it didn't reach the same level.

Went to watch it last night and thought it was excellent. Who knew the weather forecast could be so exciting!

Brendon Fraser as Ike and Andrew Scott as Stagg were outstanding.

However; since when did Hampshire have treefrogs!! The outdoor evening scenes had the sound of treefrogs the whole time

They will generally stick with something even if next to nobody is watching. And when they do have a popular show they will let it run if the show makers want to keep going but will also end a show if the show makers feel its run its course where others would be pushing for more.

Speaking of which

Also helps that you don’t have to search through a mountain of shit to find shows.

They only have a handful of shows releasing at any one time and go with a weekly release schedule.

Rhea Seehorn won a very well deserved Emmy for that show last night. But it was beaten to best show by The Pitt.

A few creatives have said they've gotten notes from Netflix that they need to have a scene where the characters explain what's going on in case the viewer isn't fully paying attention

I saw an interview with a movie director, can't remember who it was, but he said Netflix basically give you a formula you have to follow. Certain types of scene at certain points in the movie. All done on the basis that people are passively watching and you have to get them to look up from their phones every 10-15 minutes to keep track of what is going on.
