Sunderland being 2 points off europe should give every city fan hope we can get it right next year as our base is much better than theirs was

Its all about getting the right player profiles in (hot 2020s word )

Its all about powerful pacey players in that league

You suggested 11 new signings, even at an average of £10m per signing (& Onyeka) that's a ~£118m spend plus a massive increase in wage budget. Just can't see that happening.

It’s going to be a mix of frees, some for the future and marquee. Yes increase in wages but not completely across the board. It’s scaled.

£200m+ increased income plus player sales.

Half of that has to be on new players.

Why assume £10m per signing though? It’ll be a mix. Some will be free or loans. Some will be £5-8m

I can’t see us spending less in the PL than we did on the squad rebuild post Hamer and Gyokeres.

Sure but if we probably dont need to spend anywhere near that much for starters to get near that squad
Personally I think we'll sign around 8 players, 4/5 of those will go straight in as starters, the rest adding quality competition.

Couple of marquee signings in the £20m range

Total spend around £80m

That's what King will mean by being in between Burnley and Sunderland.

If you said to a sunderland fan last pre season luke o nein would be playing some matches as a starter youd be suggesting you wont stay up

There will definitely be surprises. No one would have guessed Allen and Wilson and Eccles would be the players still with us when we came up from L1.

Maybe we can get some bargains from the 3 teams who go down?

Fleming or Edwards Burnley
That young lad who dribbles alot at wolves
Maddison spurs
Jesus or Hudson odoi forest
Tanaka Leeds
Traore West ham

Obviously some prob not realistic but could be some worth looking at.

Not seen much of Sunderland this year but Brobbey looks exactly the kind of striker we need.

That was a superb back to goal performance - occupying defenders, holding the ball up, he was excellent.

He cost £20m from Ajax, that's the kind of money we'll have to drop on a CF.

Just mentioned on another thread , sunderland paid 10.4 mill for alderete , really good centre half had great stats last season in la liga

Bargain

Yeah he’s always looked good when I’ve watched them.

Good buy. Again, not one for “resale value” but if players like that keep you in the league for a couple of seasons, then it’s surely worth it?

He definitely fits the profile, though only scored 6 goals.

Flemings one I've though of.
Though again, how much for someone with single figure goals?

And as much as I agree with a lot of the criticism of Wright and Simms a little voice in the back of my head keeps reminding me of how well they played v Wolves and Man U (though both poor v Spurs)

Consistently is my main issue with them both too. It seems a 50/50 toss up on performance. Maybe even 60/40 the wrong way
