Fair enough, and in most cases I would absolutely agree. I guess for me religion (and especially Judeo-Christian ones) is a bit of an 'all or nothing' deal because it basically tells you there is something, somewhere pulling the strings that knows and sees everything, never makes a mistake and can change anything at any time if they so choose to, all based on faith, not evidence. If you don't believe that then you don't believe in the central point of any of the Abrahamic religions and if you don't have faith in some bits of scripture, how can you truly have faith in any of it?
For example, I think you are fundamentally a kind and caring person. If there was some alternate timeline where somehow Christianity/religion had never been invented, I believe you would still be a kind and caring person because that's who you naturally are. You wouldn't suddenly be stealing and killing just because there aren't any laws set down by God telling you not to.
