All of the proceeds from the sale of Hamer and Vik were Doug’s assets as the sole owner. He chose to reinvest it all and more.

Many owners would have derisked their investment by giving the club a third of the transfer income and then personally banked the rest.

Doug has had some luck for sure but he’s made a lot of his own luck by making smart decisions.

Some people just can’t accept it when someone is successful, they just always have to be slightly bitter about it. What a sad way to live.

a) Much as Torp has improved and much as he contributes, he (and for that matter Eccles) are perceived as being not quite good enough. Good players, but not quite good enough in a tough competitive business. Torp is replaced by the Brentford fella or Saddle's hot tip and drops back to being a squad player? I like Torp but I get the argument that he is not a dominating midfielder.

b) Brau was a duff purchase. Not good enough for left back or left wing and we rarely play wing backs. And if we do, Da Silva is better at that role. Brau should be added to quite a long list dating back to league 1 days of European 'bargains' that have not worked.

Speak for yourself. Fans who've only ever put £2000 max??? For those of us that do home and away, have kids, STs, shirts etc, its normally double that plus some every season. Let alone MAXIMUM!

And to say that if we go up its DK and FL achievement.... again, speak for yourself. You may only have joined the band wagon in the last season or 2, but there are a good amount of us that still went in the L1 and L2 days. Home and away. Rain or shine. And still spent more than your £2000 MAX for L2 football a season. And its those fans that kept the club alive. Its because of THOSE FANS, not Doug, or Frank, THOSE FANS, that there's still even a club now for you to jump on the bandwagon of. This is as much the achievement of those fans as it is Dougs. Players come and go, managers come and go, owners come and go. Fans are there (well some of us were anyway) til the death. Regardless of what league. And its because of those fans Doug even had a club to buy!

I went to my first match in 69/70 season with my Dad as he was a season ticket holder from 66/67 till 2016. I was a season ticket holder from 70/71 till 1987, yes, FA Cup year and I left the UK. I was away till 2012, but every day I lived and breathed CCFC. For about 15 years my Dad sent the pink (every week). (Family and work took me away) but I would buy the shirts, when the mobile was invented and cable TV I would spend a fortune on any means possible to watch or listen to my beloved City. However, like you not a lot of money went directly to the club, only the odd amount and that in the owners eyes are variable costs. He cannot function on variable costs. Your purchase of the season ticket is a fixed cost and I am sure Doug is grateful but your travel and odds and ends either have no bearing on the accounts or are costs you have incurred yourself. I still stick to the amount of £2000 a season you are spending that Doug can see as 'costs'.
Since I returned to the UK I became a season holder again and went every game home and away until my Dad passed away (He had been a Jubilee member for many years). Amazingly even at my late age my son was born so I have not been a season ticket holder for a few years, but have still attended 75% of games. And when my son reaches the age of 7 or 8 he too will be a season ticket holder (if we have tickets left from being in the premier).
I usually don't respond to responses I have written, there's no point and I certainly do not want to be confrontational with a fellow CCFC fan, BUT, I do take issue with your projection of how you finance the club, because you do not spend more than £2000 a season ON THE CLUB, you spend possibly £3000 a year on yourself and family enjoying the football, but Doug doesn't get that monies.
Lastly, I have enjoyed my lifer, and still doing. I have a relatively successful career in my field that has taken me around the world. I have been down when the City lose, and ecstatic when we win, but it is the owner, the manager and the players success, not mine. Why do you think so many people support Man Utd or Liverpool? Their fans never go to games. It's only because of success, and I seriously feel sorry for them because if a person's sole success in life is the team they support then they should 'get a life'.
I love CCFC but even if we were non-league I would support them and go and get my football fix. I am a born and bred Coventrian and my sentence is supporting the team, as I do Cov Rugby club, Brandon Bees (in their day) and any other team that represents our fine city, but their success is my adulation not my success.

Birmingham City are interested in Brentford midfielder Frank Onyeka.

Indeed Onyeka has been playing in the same Nigeria team as Bright Osayi-Samuel, one which was knocked out at the semi-final stage but which has a third-place play-off against Egypt on Saturday.

The central midfiedler has played four of Nigeria’s six games but has been little used by Brentford this season, with only six Premier League appearances and no starts.

After joining Brentford from Midtjylland in 2021 he played a significant role in his first three seasons but last term he was loaned out to FC Augsburg for whom he made 30 Bundesliga starts.

Agree, we definitely miss that at times.

We have Allen's ability to get up and down the pitch, but the rest of his game is distinctly lacking. Torp has the technical side but not so much the physical.

Someone like Matusiwa, who absolutely dominated our midfield for Ipswich, would be ideal.

Shmmeee is missing the (major) point that by King being willing to cover cash flow and some running costs, he’s managed to maximise the asset base which in turn he has reinvested that in the team. SISU wouldnt have got anywhere near the sales value for the players sold as they weren’t willing to do this

There’s no doubt he’s had some luck but nobody can surely question the fact he’s run the club professionally for the first time in donkeys years. He would’ve also had to invest personal cash into the club and to buy the stadium even if there’s a secured loan/mortgage.

Let’s not forget the massive bollocks to make the managerial changes, which could’ve gone horribly wrong but appear to have turned out well. All luck though innit
