It’s so strange that the rules cross the piece are far more stringent than the last few years whilst still seemingly allowing people to access the country on small boats regularly all be it in small numbers

It’s such a big mess and I can’t help thinking that it’s going to get a lot worse before getting better
The reality is that there are a number of income, accommodation etc rules that have to be met to bring a spouse into the country. It’s not an automatic right.

Wouldn't all foreign born spouses be migrants?
Maybe I'm not being very clear.

If a migrant who is unmarried comes here and is granted the right to stay, if they then later on get married to a foreign national who lives abroad and does not have the right to stay in the UK, that new spouse will not be permitted entry into the UK.

Basically trying to stop people getting visa's by getting married to someone with the right to remain in the UK.

Friend of mine, from a non-European country, works in the fiance sector in the city. Has worked here for several years, her husband is not allowed to join her here.

He has a degree, would be working and contributing to society but doesn't meet the threshold.

Makes me sceptical when I see posts declaring that people have a right to bring their entire family over the second they step foot on British soil and we can't do anything about that without abandoning the ECHR

I think its the difference between asylum and migration.

So how do you solve it then. Deport all those that aren't willing to integrate? How do you suppose we judge if someone is willing or not to integrate?
So id suggest keeping those who dont think Murder or Rape is culturally usual. Call me old fashioned

well you are saying to deport them 500 people isn’t going to make a dent on those coming in
I mean clean slate right? Deport the 500 who didn't integrate and let 1000 in who might? Is that right?

i mean my original question was how do you decide who’s integrated and who hasn’t. you suggested deporting the 500 murderers a year where we assume all aren’t british. not much of a solution is it

You cant deport people who are british

what’s your solution for identifying those who won’t integrate
Deportation. Those who have proved their inability to integrate get kicked out. I dont know why this is so alien to people.

yes but how do you identify those are unable to integrate, other than if they murder or rape someone
Short of kicking everyone out you cant. Its the price we pay for open borders. So innocent until proven guilty is the closest you can get. But its not enough, and anyone with a modicum of sense can see that

Being able to use the local language to a decent level for starters. If you can't speak the language, you have nothing to offer the country you're in.
