People singing songs about Starmer today in singers corner and beyond (7 Viewers)

I heard in our Coventry homes a couple of times yesterday but didn't hear anything about starmer.

Might need my ears checking then.

He made the thread in the first place so he could lecture and preach to every one, it was about 5 blokes at the back of south stand ffs
It wasn't 5 blokes to be fair, it was a fair number. No offence, but don't start these chants if you don't want to explain them. I have a young son with me who I do have to explain things to. In the same way as a few weeks ago I had to explain why people on the tube and train stations in London that people weren't in fact signing football songs, they were singing songs in the name of a convicted criminal and racist scum bag.

Don't start this at Coventry and there then is no discussion. If you start it, then be prepared to be held to account..

It isn't holding them to account posting them on here and ranting about politics.

Okay i'll break it down to you so you can sleep easier tonight. Blackburn fans started singing it, 5-10 pissed up blokes under the scoreboard- who i've never seen there before - sung it as well. Don't read into it too much

Picture the scene at school Monday morning with his mates - you must be buzzing, top of the league won again, another clean sheet ... yeah but I was chatting with my dad about some blokes who spoilt it by saying mean things about the Prime Minister. Same happened a few weeks back when the team won again in London and someone supported Stephen Yaxley Lennon, that's his real name btw.

It's weird isn't it. Probably gets to stay up late for local election results though.

Told him off for enjoying the goals after what they'd just heard from the back of the stand
No offence, you are mocking a relationship a dad has with his young son. If it makes you feel big on social media then go ahead, personally I would rather he was asking me about the 2nd verse to "live and die in these towns" but I am not going to ignore him when he asks me "what are they singing". But as a responsible parent when he asks "dad what are they singing" I'm not going to talk down to him. I don't want him growing up ignorant.

Again, as a father I don't want my son growing up ignorant. As an administrator, why are you so keen to shut this down?

Why would it make him grow up ignorant? 😂

I'm just pointing out that by making a thread about politics and going off on a rant and pretending you're holding anybody to account is a bit random.

Must be exhausting trying your hardest to be offended by things every time you're out with your son.

It really has little to do with policy. I think most people are just sick of the mainstream parties and this is all largely a massive protest. A lot of our country is very unhappy at the moment. If you surveyed all Reform voters and asked if they think they're going to improve the country, I doubt a majority would say they think they will with any serious conviction. It is more a case of causing a scene in the hope that someone, somewhere, will do something.

Regarding immigration, yes the boats just scratch the surface, but I was referring to the overall numbers which are drastically out of control, and within contain many people who do not share our values. It is inflaming tensions. It doesn't have to be close the borders versus open borders. Really, a sensible approach is needed and we just don't have it, or even a sensible conversation.

Anyway, as Nick said, there's plenty of this conversation regarding this on the off topic board. Go and jump in there.

Football is for football, and as much as I do think Starmer is a wanker (along with nearly all our politicians) we've got a bloody good football team at the moment, and we should fucking enjoy that.
This is spot on and the first few paragraphs should be remembered in every immigration thread imo

How do you put the hard yards in if the majority of the time you can’t get an away ticket?

That's simply not true though is it. Someone created a spreadsheet for it and something like half the games last season fell into categories where first time season ticket holders with no away games were able to get tickets if they desired. It's somewhere on this site if you can be bothered to find it.

Wrexham. 1500+
Portsmouth, can't find any posts, but it is sold out.
Sheffield Wednesday. General sale
Millwall (league). I can't find any posts from the club one way or the other but from the highlights the upper tier has 1 block almost completely unsold.
Leicester. 1400+
Oxford 1600+
Millwall (cup) General sale.
Derby County. Somewhere between 800-1000.

Just being a ST holder for 4 years would have got you to 4 away games already this season, you only miss out on the small allocations and local derby's. You could have even got to 3 away games just turning up off the street with no history.

This closed shop stuff is utter bollocks and only gets trotted out when people fancy a day out at Blues or Leicester.

If he asks genuine questions then giving an answer which doesn't insult/dumb down his question will mean he won't grow up ignorant and will understand how the world around him works.

I wasn't offended by it, I was annoyed by it and felt it was unnecessary. But I am also not offended by players taking the knee. I would rather he was singing "twist and shout" than asking "dad, what do they mean about Kier Starmer being a w@nker"

The thread is about politics, it is only about politics because of what people felt the need to sing about. If you don't like it and as an admin feel the need to shut it down and do that as a proxy to ridicule a young lad in his honest questions, what does that say about you? Let me guess as an 'admin' you are a great fighter for free speech, apart from when the free speech is something you don't agree with?

Do you feel extra special by ridiculing a child's honest questions?

Fucking hell, get a life. Doubt he even noticed it. Even less chance he said "dad, what do they mean about kier starmer being a wanker"

Plenty of politics threads in off topic for rants about politics.

If you want to go in depth about politics with your 10 year old then that's your judgement. It's not dumbing anything down, it's just letting kids be kids.

Agree, but I would say a lot of those that have moved behind the goals have been replaced with tourists, want to go for the atmosphere but not willing to join in with any songs. I personally wanted to move but friends wanted to stay in the corner, so we stayed. I think we've now got an issue in that with the amount of ST holders we have now, it can't be easily rectified.
Yeah agree it's now not an easy fix to be fair that's a good point. Makes it all the more frustrating mind.

What's the relevance to singing that at a Coventry home game?
About the same relevance as singing free Palestine at a festival! Both as pointless and absurd as the other. Difference is, players at a football ground dont join in or start chants of the like. Whereas many a singer/act at a festival this year have. Ive paid to come and see people sing, not share their political leanings!

It's my child, not yours. I will be the teller of if he noticed it, not you.

Na not really. So what’s the argument then when Middlesbrough goes to general sale on a Tuesday night and the people who have the points decide not to go as they are going to Leicester on a Saturday instead? You expect low points holders to just gobble up all the less glamorous tickets that are left and the other 5-6 away games at best that reach general sale that the point holders aren’t interested in? Seems a bit double standards.

Similarly you might argue some, not all, go to those less glamorous games just so that they can be guaranteed go the 5 or 6 popular ones too. Without that we could find lots of unsold ones outside the big few and the team suffers a little then too.

Just thinking of a middle ground that might be fairer for some, perhaps a ballot where a % go to those who still have a minimum of say 1200 so the 1800+ get theirs and a ballot for the balance but not a free ballot as it would be those who are at least 4 year season ticket holders, so it's not day trippers but gives all regular fans an opportunity.

You said you can't get an away ticket, I've proved to you that you can. I would hardly call Sheffield Wednesday and Derby County as undesirable games either. Millwall midweek is, but the club give additional points for those games that fall midweek.

The 2 Millwall games this season are the equivalent points value to 5 Saturday games. (Midweek away cup game 30 points, midweek away league game 20 points).

If people are willing to put in the work, they'll fly up the priority system.
