The league is too mediocre for two teams to overtake you as long as you maintain any sort of form. I’m assuming you’ve named your next two games. Even if you lose them both (you won’t), you’d be 6 points clear of third with the best GD in the league. I’d love to think you could be caught but the gap is too big now unless you completely fall apart.

The assumption form will be maintained while other teams go on a run and therefore teams can't catch us is nonsense.

It's the start of December plenty of times for teams to chip away.

Of course it can, I get that. I also know that when we were at the top of the division two seasons ago and supporters of other clubs were saying we’d go up I took it with a pinch of salt. Given what you’ve been through in the past 20 years I completely get why you don’t want to allow yourselves to believe. I was the same when we were at the top of the championship after scraping promotion from league one. I’m telling you though, as an objective outsider that your team is good enough to get the points you need to get over the line and that you’ll do it. The gap might narrow in fact it probably will but unless you completely implode you’ll make it.

More confident in us now that before kick off, need a few in the door in January, no need to over react we werent going unbeaten until May. 2 wins next week would be nice.

It looked a foul from where I was but if it wasn’t then it was a booking. Ref was shocking, I’ve said that already. We were gifted an injury time penalty at Birmingham on the first day of the season, were on the right side of a key decision today but other than that I think we’ve been on the wrong side of most marginal decisions.

Last season we were harshly done by so many times even with VAR (have a look at Kalvin Phillips sending off against Leicester). We’d have gone down with a whimper regardless but it still irks that we had so much go against us. when you go up, unfortunately for you the same will happen. It really does feel corrupt at times. It’s probably not but it doesn’t stop you feeling it’s all scripted when every major decision seems to go against you.

Maybe too soon and if you want me to I’ll quietly slope off. Yours is the only non-Ipswich forum I’ve ever posted on, I’m only back because you seem a really decent bunch.

Firstly, you’re definitely going up. Today’s result doesn’t change that. I’ve had a quick look at the posts on here and am surprised how scathing some are of the performance today. There’s a quality and rhythm to your play, even when you’re below par, that is going to carry you though. In a 46 game season you’ll lose some and it’s about how you respond, which your team seems to do well this season. We got hammered 4-0 by Leeds in December in the season we got promoted to the prem. It really was a hammering too, not like today. They took us apart and could have won by 6 or 7. We thought it would rock the team but it didn’t, they just put it behind them straight away and went on another good run.

I felt we deserved to win in the end today but it wasn’t a 3-0 game. It turned on fine margins - walton’s save onto the post, our goal and the ref deciding not to give Hirst a second yellow when he’s booked your player earlier for doing the same. I didn’t think either were really bookings (both were seconds after the whistle, they weren’t real dissent where a player just smashes the ball away when they know the game has stopped). If you’re booking one though, you book them both.

I also felt we were going to win today because unlike every other team to come to Portman Road this season with the possible exception of Southampton, you came to play football and try to win. You were the better team for the first 30 minutes and even at 2-0 you remained composed. If you’d got one back, I think you’s have got another. The consensus of the town fans around us was that you’re a good team, a lot of similarities with how we were 2 years ago.

You deserve a points deduction for that grim orange kit, the cocky 12 year old cov fan mouthing off before the game about Ipswich being a “bus stop in Norwich” got what he deserved and “is this a library” is the dullest song ever sung by away fans (we do it, I cringe then too). Aside from these small gripes, I wish you well for the rest of the season other than on 29th (my first trip on a march day to your current home, looking forward to it). Keep the faith and hopefully we’ll be playing each other in the Premier League next season.

Very possibly. Matusiwa - our most important player. Would have felt wrong having him suspended today as Greaves got a suspension after being sent off in the abandoned game against Blackburn earlier in the season.We were rotten against Blackburn on Tuesday, definitely a point gained.

Thanks, fair assessment. I agree re the yellows, re kicking ball away,but ref bottled it. Either do it don't give cards. We have a small squad and losing Saka and Torp today was fatal. All the best. You'll at least be in the playoffs., maybe higher. No guarantees for any teams, tough games coming.

We’ve just beaten a team who miles clear at the top 3-0 so this will probably make me sound like an idiot and/or arrogant but I don’t think we were that great today. We have rarely played to anything like the level that a team that’s cost as much as ours did should be.

We took advantage of the one spell of pressure we had in the first half and played well for periods in the second half but there is still something missing. We’re nowhere near as cohesive as were 2 seasons ago. We have some talented players and as you say the strength in depth means we can bring on players that would start for almost every other other Championship club and for some would be their star player (Jack Clarke should not be on the bench for any team that’s not in the top half of the prem) but we’re really not convincing. If we go up it will be more about how average so many other teams are than us being a really good side.

That game should not have been replayed but rather continued under the same conditions (i.e. from the 80th minute onwards at 1-0 to Blackburn with 11 players against 10). By the way, did you go to the Oxford forum after your match last week?

The EFL disagree with you . Blackburn are going to be in the same position again now thanks to their pitch - exactly the same thing happened today with them a goal up and half an hour to play.

As for the Oxford forum. No I didn’t, I said that in my first paragraph. My previous posts on this forum had nothing to do with Ipswich and were complimentary about your team (after losing to Man U and then when you were robbed against Sunderland in the play offs). If we lose on 29th I’ll come on and post here though, just for you.

No argument from me that we got lucky with that decision. Not sure it would have been game over but it’s very unlikely that we’d have got more than a point. I can’t even remember Hirst’s first booking. The ref was very keen to dish out yellow cards for minor infringements which made it inevitable that he would create the situation he found himself in when Hirst was flagged offside. I’ve seen Lampard’s post - match interview and agree with his assessment.

Some comments on the Ipswich forum about your number 28 getting off of a second booking shortly before it. I can’t remember it, it may be rubbish but I mention it because he booked so many for innocuous fouls that he took some of the competitiveness out of the game. As I’ve said more than once, the ref was very poor and today we benefitted from it. Wednesday night or next Saturday we’ll be on the wrong end of those decisions.
