Genocide is the intent to destroy the whole or 'substantial' part of a group.

What they did on that day was clearly horrific beyond words, but I don't think they intended or expected to wipe out a substantial part of Israel on that day.

Whereas Israel have quite clearly intended to wipe out probably all, but at the very least a substantial part of, Palestinians.

With respect, anyone who calls Israel’s war ‘genocidal’ but not Hamas’ attack on October 7th 2023 lacks moral clarity or is playing with definitions.

How much of the mulim population of Tel Aviv or Israel support Macabi Tel Avi, Mr i was a teacher you know?
You do realise that making something up on the back of Dom also making something up doesn't mean it happened right?

There could be secular Israelis and Christian supporters as well as any Muslim supporters of the club. You have lazily assumed that every Israeli is a Jew.

Jews have not been banned from attending

It's not playing with the definition - it is the actual UN definition.

Take it up with them not me if you don't agree.

Dear UN

I was recently engaged in a debate about the Israel conflict on the Coventry City supporters football forum 'Sky Blues Talk' and I'd be grateful if you could clarify a couple of points for me ...

I am merely relaying what the guy said on a phone in programme. It’s his thoughts and feelings.
I recall that when other people claimed that ethnic and religious minorities in this country were recently feeling intimidated by political protests, you denied they existed - do you have any proof?

I agree entirely

Can we agree that Hamas’ actions on October 7th were genocidal?

Why is it so hard for you to understand that being Israeli and being Jewish aren't the same?
No one is saying that. The impact, however, clearly felt by Jewish people the most. Ironically, the linked you shared demonstrates how Arab Israelis and the Druze are well integrated in Israeli society. I don’t think Gaza or the West Bank has the same success story.

Why would occupied lands be integrated into Israeli society?

Hamas committed a terrorist attack, not an attempted genocide. I mean let's be clear, do you think the UN got it wrong in their report?

He has said that Jews have been banned from attending, when he's referring to the fans of an Israeli football club. He's thrown them into the same category. He doubled down with 'yeah but how many Muslims support Jewish (sic) clubs' when Muslims and other non-Jews in fact play for the national team. The point of the piece was to stop assuming that all Israelis are Jews.

Why is this so hard to understand?

That’s an insightful remark because you expose what many people of on the ‘Pro-Pal’ side don’t actually believe in a two solution because the view is that all of the land is occupied. Again, you see this regularly at demos where you see people wearing necklaces, hoodies, T-shirts that depicts all of Israel as Palestine (link below is one example).

At a v fundamental level, a lot of these people do not believe Israel should exist on a fundamental level. Frankly, there’s a people on this thread that demonstrate that train of thought.

Starmer said the ban was anti semetic
We suddenly quoting something Starmer has said WITHOUT ridicule for once?

I can see how he has come to that conclusion, but this was a decision between the police and the SAG wasn't it.

I do honestly believe that they made this decision because they fear it may all kick off.

It's been turned now into a debate about race and Jews etc

I do feel I could all well kick off, so part of me is a little relieved that, that is the decision as it stands right now.

It's okay saying "police it", but if it gets out of hand it could easily turn into a riot.

Why is a terrorist attack and not genocide? Hamas literally put their war crimes on social media and there were multiple examples of people celebrating that they killed Jews. They didn’t care if their victims were Arab Israelis because there is no distinction for Hamas between Jew and Israeli.

If the UN is calling it a terror attack, then I think they’re wrong.

yep all, it is, is the fear of violence

If it does it off, is that fair on the people who live there? The people who the Police are employed to protect and serve?

No, I just said the Gaza and the West Bank are internationally recognised occupied lands so why would they be integrated into Israeli society?

You don't seem to have a clue about this do you?

I don't agree with them not being allowed to go to the game. Jews haven't been banned from going, they just literally haven't.

You and Dom have posted more about my career choices than I ever have, to be clear.

Because, as I said, for it to be genocide it needs to be with the intention of destroying all or a substantial part of, a group. And I really don't think that was their aim that day, I don't know how anyone could argue it was.
