I'm not sure about Woolfenden at all. I think it's always a risk bringing in a player who has only ever played at one club for such a large proportion of his career, especially when that club seemingly had a massive level of overperformance more than the sum of it's parts in that time. Just hope we're not falling into a bit of a trap of 'well he's got promoted out of this league before, he must be a top centre back at this level'.

Ultimately though time will tell and I'll certainly give him more than 4 games (👀) before making any sort of judgement.
His stats show he’s decent on the ball but average defensively. I get that both come at a premium but I don’t see him doing a great deal to change our defensive problems.

Really ? if we’d of signed him the season they went up it would of been a brilliant signing, we’re getting the same player only with more experienc, brilliant signing

I think those seemingly disappointed in Woolfenden because they want Hughes need a reality check

Hughes is a great player, but he isnt worth the 15 million quid Hull wanted to let him go. Woolfenden is a third of that price, was a mainstay of a side that got promoted from this league, and is an upgrade on both Thomas and Kitching

What more do people want?

Tbh I've never been a fan of the writing off of a player before we've seen them play for us. Usually it's because opposition fans always chat about how shit the signing is, which is just what fans do tbh.. this time a good majority seem to be saying good things and we still can't win 😆
Ultimately the bloke has achieved what we haven't and what we hope to. I look forward to seeing him play.

I like Charlie Hughes and would of loved him but I'm happy with Woolfenden, a really good CH with promotion and Premier league experience, Charlie Hughes isn't the second coming of Maldini and if Hull want 15 million then its probably best to walk, that is a lot of money, buy Woolfenden and get a couple more in with that money, then look to buy him at a later date potentially

Agreed

If Hull weren't under the embargo, we would have got Hughes for 10 million is the word

We need cover at centre half so hopefully we’ve got Woolfenden who’s played in the prem and got promoted, him just being here gives kitching and Thomas competition, they’ll improve as well, brilliant signing

Spot on. No doubt Hughes is a very good player but the ‘pay what hull want’ brigade just aren’t living in the real world. Do they want the club to go bust ?! Pleased to get some CB competition/cover in if Woolfenden deal is done

ps you’ve befriended the new kit washer haven’t you ?!!! Like it

Good to get a CB in, be better to read Ipswich fans opinions of Woolfenden when they were going well in that title winning season rather than now he seems to be off.

£5m a big amount for him.

It’s obvious we’re trying to do business so . Hope we don’t overpay silly amounts for anyone

I was being flippant. Of course we wouldn’t go bust (we’ve got players of value to sell) but if the fans who want us to just pay whatever the selling club wants for players ran the club, we soon would. We’re losing millions a year and just bought the ground. There’s not an endless supply of money.

£10 million is a good offer for Hughes and a good sign of where we are at as a club. I wonder if Doug might stick an extra couple of mil on and dangle a deadline day carrot.

but he played nearly every game the season they got promoted , he’s a quality championship centre half with prem experience, if your unhappy about a signing like that then ?
Is he a quality Championship centre half? He's played one season in the league in a team that conceded a lot of goals!

We have no idea if he's going to fix our very clear defensive issues.

Well if Bling feels a £10m bid on one player is worth it, then £15m isnt going to put the clubs future at risk.
