- KKH was bad but also was given a tough job. BTA comes inside and Andrews didn't get over to support him going forward so he was isolated. Got better once Rudoni was supporting him. Also thought their LW was good (tho final ball was rubbish) but he did get done more than you'd want

- 2 goals from corners (all 6 goals conceded so far from set-pieces) is a worry, but also the easiest part of the game to sort out

- Andrews/Rapha need loans in League 1 but we don't have enough cover to do it

- Having to play Brau LW & Bidwell CB makes it clear what we need to do in the window

Millwall are also a decent side, we've played only poor sides this season thus far. They didn't have their strongest side out either but largely out-muscled us.

It was always going to be an easy start to the season and that should continue on Saturday, but until last night we've only played sides who are likely to be in a relegation battle or who are in the league below.

More games needed to see how "good" we really are this season
Millwall made 8 changes also. With the money we've spent compared to them you'd hope our squad in depth was a lot better.
Our first 11 are exciting to watch, we're in trouble if we pick up a couple of injuries.

Grimes put one on his head perfectly from an early corner. I'd rather give a kid a chance at this stage, Simmo can't be ahead of Obikwu on merit
No one is talking about corners are they, we are talking about the general standard of service they got from the rest of the team.

I think it’s useful for having glorified friendlies that help clubs get players up to speed. Eliminate 3/4 of the 72 EFL clubs in ‘round 1’ and then the rest will probably be eliminated in R2 so it has served its purpose.
How do you do that?

Surely by the nature of the competition it would be 1/2.

Lati is good as far as backups go imo

Quality replacements we have:

Sheaf
KKH
Brau
Lati
Saka/BTA
Simms(on potential and attributes)
Eccles
Dovin(when fit)

Lower quality replacements:

Allen
Andrews
Bidwell
Raphael
Wilson
Collins
Basette

Don't think I've missed anyone out

We need to work on shopping bottom list out perm or loan and replace some of them with better

They should do a Europa League for second division teams instead.

A group stage with Malaga, Dynamo Dresden, and Sampdoria.

The standard would be so poor that we would win easily and have a banging set of holidays at the same time.

The PL teams would insist they’re allowed to enter a team in the Championship if that happened.

The thing is if back up players have to play then it will only be 1 or 2 coming in and not 8 in one go. So their performance will improve with better quality players around them.

Regionalise the competition even more (e.g. Midlands) and prevent teams from the same league drawing each other in the early rounds.

Promotes local derbies, teams you won’t play otherwise and easily accessible away travel.

Its opinions. I don’t know what he’s offering. If you say he works hard and holds the ball up, I might scream.
It is, but Simms played with players who are not our starting players, for league games. He is always going to look worse than Wright, who plays with Rudi, etc. I thought Simms did okay. He won 2 free kicks, near the goal. One nearly an equaliser, from the free kick..he got his head on balls and held it up reasonably well. Wright will start ahead of him, but I don't get the negativity. Clearly been a difficult time for him. Looks like us staying..If he is getting behind him and the team.

He won two free links and got his head on the ball

He really didn’t do anything impressive last night. Just went through the motions (poorly).

Rapha should carry on as a 4th choice, ideally and assuming a winger is brought in before the deadline. There’s a player in there and I’m optimistic his development is best served here. As for Andrews, I’m erring to the side of a loan but given Lampard’s track record of developing talent, you’ve got to trust his judgement.

We can’t let ourselves be in a position where we resort to playing players out of position or changing formation because we’ve ran out of wingers.

If EMC gets injured, you’re probably looking at a front three of BTA, Simms and Wright which is suboptimal. Alternatively, we probably end up playing 4-4-2 or 5-3-2, which brings to on to another position of need: CB.

To close out the transfer window, best case scenario looks like:
- winger
- CB
- AM

Rudoni is obviously a blue chip player in this league but we’re screwed if he gets injured because there’s no real alternative.

Simms was by and large woeful. Never once looked like scoring. We need a lot more than he’s offering
He wasn't. He got us 2 free kicks, just outside their penalty area. One of those free kicks hit the post. He held the ball up, reasonably well and layed it off, a lot..he had hardly any support and Wright looked better, because he had Rudi and Torp, to play off.

He won two free kicks, wow! He didn’t hold the ball up anywhere near as much as he should and was often caught on his heels. His anticipation is poor. I want him to succeed, but can’t see it happening

He scored 19 goals, season before last .He had no one around him last night, whereas Wright gets Rudi and Torp!

Football is a ‘what have you done for me lately‘ business. Those 19 goals don’t help us now. Regardless of who supported him he didn’t make the most of his opportunity. Frank agrees with me

Would have been nice to switch rapha with asanti for half hour...he looks more comfortable down that side....might be wrong but thought that was his position
