Bobby Thomas to Sheff Utd ? (55 Viewers)

This is another important point. Getting someone in now means changing the defence combination again and we know how that worked out in the past!
As long as were not in a position of relying on either/or Bidwell LCB and Lati RCB. Thats all I care! If we get to that point, I'm out! DK can have my ST back.

I wouldn’t be too fond of that, but there is a poster on here singing Bobby Ts praises who used to say Latibeaudiere was better on the ball, so maybe we have nothing to worry about?!

Another player that people dismiss at times. 5 goals last year and capable of more. Passing can be off at times but if it wasn’t and he was a bit quicker, it wouldn’t just be Sheff United looking at him.

Would be a big miss IMO.

A very strange & unsettling time , behind the scenes . I hope that there are quality signings/replacements in the pipeline , as by tomorrow afternoon, we could be sitting on just 1 point from our first 2 games , after looking at the kindest fixture fall , in seasons .

You sound a barrel of laughs tonight!

We huffed & puffed to a 1 nil win then drew nil nil against 2 of the worst L1 teams in history.

Then won it.

Bobby emotionally has support from fans, perhaps because he has chipped in with a few (important) goals, but more likely because he’s the best of an average bunch.

Taking emotion out of it, it’s so obvious that other teams let him have the ball and then man mark, because he’s lacks the ability with the ball at his feet. With the way we play this is a big flaw. He’s also prone to mistakes, and rash challenges.

I do think he is a top half championship defender, but for the money, I do think it’s decent business.

I agree with that. Do I think Thomas is a good player? Yes - very much so.

do I think we can use the 8m to upgrade him? Definitely.

the key thing is the replacement. If it ends up being Latibeudiere we’ve massively downgraded

From a business sense £8m for Thomas is good value. From a football sense it’s a terrible idea to let him go. Time to see which side of that fence Douglas wants to be.
We can't turn down 8m for Bobby Thomas. If this was 1030pm on transfer deadline day your point is valid, but with 2 weeks to go 8m is great business and allows us to upgrade in that area of the pitch.

So, Bobby Thomas + 3million quid for Charlie Hughes would be a pretty good deal, i think.
Not really though is it. It's basically Thomas and Binks + £500k = Hughes. We get Hughes but still a CB too light, and Lati is still our only senior back up CB.

City fans … it’s been a terrible window … we need to move players on, we need to strengthen our defence; we need to raise the funds to bring players in but no one want our players.

also City fans …. It’s worrying to sell a player like Thomas.

It’s Bobby fuckin Thomas not Virgil van dyke did gods sake ….

Wouldn’t that leave us with four players who can potentially play left-side centre back (Hughes, Kitching, Bidwell and Brau) and only Lati who can play on the right?

I understand the reasoning behind it, but its a HUGE gamble. Why haven't we already signed a CH? If rumours are to be believed we've bid £8m for Hughes and been knocked back. So its not a lack of funds or a lack of trying that we haven't so far bought in a new CH.

If its all true, Blades are also in for Doyle and Hughes. They're clearly in the market for 2x CHs. Imagine we sell Thomas on the "hope" of still having 2 weeks left and Blades sign Hughes and whilst we're chasing Hughes somebody else comes in and pips us to Doyle. Then we end up with Lati! Great laugh. But its ok though because we've got £8m in the bank for Thomas' sale and hugely strengthened a competitors defence in doing so.

IF, and its a big IF, we can sign 1 of Doyle or Hughes early next week, id happily see Thomas go. Same as MVE. Now his replacement is here he can go. But id of been pissed if he'd of gone without already having his replacement in the door. Especially this late on in the window. It's a huge gamble that could completely derail our season before its even started.

I guess we would all like to see us get a replacement in first but don’t think it can happen. What if we spend, say, £10 million on Doyle or Hughes and then the sale of Thomas falls through? It’s probably different if we can sell MVE quickly for £8 million+.

I’m still concerned (see above) that we end up with an imbalance between our left and right CBs.

If Bobby goes, I feel we will buy two £3.5 million CHs which will clearly be a gamble. But so was MVE, KKH and Bobby when we first bought him. The potential problem is development time.
Will be really sad to see any of our current squad leave with the possible exception of Collins and maybe Bassette who need to restart their careers.
Think Hull and Man City want too much for Hughes and Doyle. Wages would be an issue too.
Can't see the model changing too much, buy cheap, develop and sell high.

So our much settled squad built up well and no loanees acheive the playoff's and narowly miss out. So lets start selling our best players, bring some loans and disrupt evrything?
Thomas is a good CH who has an eye for goal. Big loss if he goes. *m would be the minimum surely?
Are these unsettling times under Frank lampard? All we need was a couple of additions so lets hope we turn down these offers on Thomas, Rudoni etc or I think we can kiss the playoff's goodbye already.
