Thomas offers a goal threat from set pieces, and is a better defender, and makes fewer mistakes. (In general) but kitching has a better range of passing.

I agree.
I don't think our cock-ups at the back have been as bad as in the past (OK the Rushworth thing was awful but hopefully won't be a common occurrence) but our build up play is so slow and predictable. Again, although it's not quite as bad is starting to give off vibes of the end of the end of MR's tenure - keep possession, pass it sideways, don't create much then concede by a defensive error.

Slow at times yes then more direct when space was found.
Rushworth tried to wrongfoot the striker and failed. It cost us a goal. He will learn from this hopefully. The next goal they got was a mix up with our players which can happen to any side and a very good finish. But overall I was happy with the way we played.

What we were missing was a goal predator. Rudoni would also most probably taken advantage.
It was a friendly. We were not at full strength. Some people are trying to make a lot out of not a lot.

Looking at what we have, we're in a better place than we were at the start of last season. We won't be chopping and changing anywhere near as much for starters. We've got a clear no 1 keeper for now, a favoured cb pairing, means to give Milan and Sakamoto a rest, Dasilva actually performing, Grimes for a full season, EMC and Rudoni settled in their strongest positions, seems all but certain Haji will be playing through the middle, no major injuries and some youngsters a lot closer to the first team. Few more inevitable incomings, hopefully including an experienced organiser at the back and we should be on for another good season

The strikers basically gave up making runs at one point because Statty Grimes never looked up. Our midfield is incredibly pedestrian. The number of times we are in good positions and turn back to the CBs drives me spare. Same issues as last season: sit in and hit us on the break and we’ve got no answers.

This is exactly the sort of window we need. Wind back a few seasons and the scenario by now would be the likes of Thomas, Wright, Rudoni and anyone else of value would be gone and we’d have some cheap pick ups coming in far from guaranteed to come off. Ironically the one position we are really short in is RB. Assuming MVE is off it’s the only position we have just 1 proven starter.

Simply not true. Every time Grimes gets the ball he looks forward. The forward pass isn’t always on. That’s why he will keep the ball moving. You can’t just pass it forward constantly, that’s not how football works. You don’t half come out with some nonsense

Grimes job is to keep the ball and protect the defenders. If he never looks up how does he deliver defence splitting passes? The last time this was said he delivered 2 defence splitting passes.

Maybe lampard wants loans in for remaining incomings and thus we have to wait till end of window as is typical when dealing with parent clubs assessing who they can do without in the upcoming season

At this stage I really can't see another striker coming in unless the club receives a very good offer for one of the main three.
We'll certainly bring in another CB and probably a versatile winger.

You will accuse me of negativity, but I'm just saying you want to be continuously improvement, for example, how do we bridge the gap to 4th? How do we bridge the gap to 3rd? And so on.

Yeah, i can see a CB, RM before we see a FW. The only way that happens is if Simms or BTA or moved on.

I think a winger that can play either side is more important than a striker right now. We need someone pacy and likes to run at defenders different to tats and EMC.
I feel we will still score goals even if our strikers aren’t banging in 20 a season.
A winger and a top cb would be priorities for me minimum. Then if we can offload a striker then look at it.

Which I was I said, we have improved the squad in the fullback area but neither KKH or Breu are likely to start on Saturday so we haven't really improved our main starting 11. Rushworth is a direct replacement for injured Dovin.
The window isn't over yet, but as it stands I can see why people are feeling a little underwhelmed.

Have put up all the signings from all clubs. We wouldn't be interested in the vast majority. Those who have signed players we would be interested in have also sold some of their best players. For instance Norwich have sold players that got about half their goals last season. Sheffield United have bought 2 players I've never heard of before and got 2 Prem loans that have never played as high as the Championship before.
Top 4 last season? 3 of them went up. Sheffield United are still with us. I'm sure Ipswich will finish above us. But there's questions about Southampton and Leicester. Birmingham could go either way. I consider us to be in a better position than them as things stand.
This is why I predict us to be 2nd to 4th.

Simms or BTA are cover for Wright. Buy anew striker and what do you do with Wright? As 1st choices, Simms and BTA are not good enough, but as squad cover they are fine.
Frank and his team have used the summer to work on the defence, which is where the stats were pretty clear we needed to spend. I would still prefer a new hard boiled central defender but if one can't be found that is exactly what we want at the right price I am happy to wait.
The bedwetters seem to think acquisition is a) the be all and end all and under value coaching and training b) acquisition is like going into a sweetie shop, when you just gorge on your favourites and c) don't appreciate that finding the right chap, for the right money within the timescale when you are not Man City or Liverpool is not easy d) carries a lot of risk - we have had our fair share of duds

If we had sold any 1st team players I would have expected more. But we sold/released players not good enough and have added quality.
We don't need numbers. We have enough players. It's better quality players we need and that can take time.

To get better quality tjan we already have is the key but not easy to get deals over the line. Its a chain, we get good quality then the selling tean have to have surplus in that position or have to replace.
Its really not easy and being to passive can lead to losing a target. But if you over chase and put all on one target others potentially get away leaving you without. Then desperation creates bad decisions.
We are going to have to get to used to twitter announcements and very in the way of build up to incoming and outgoing.

The two are too similar. I agree, we need someone who can hit the forwards earlier and someone with more about him than Torp as backup for Rudi. I just get frustrated with Grimes because he’s a) got the ball so much And b) shown he can hit those passes
