Hatred 😂😂😂
I don’t think he’s a very good footballer, I certainly don’t hate him.

Give it a rest. At the moment we have Dovin Injured. Wilson, Collins and Bell. If that doesn't change before the first game who are you picking?

There’s studies that have shown this to be true, including a Uefa lead one. Moreover whilst modern day goalkeeping is demanding, it’s common sense that a goalkeeper will not be exposed to the same demands (on the knee) as an outfield players.
Interesting - what exactly do the studies show? I completely agree that over the course of a game goalies knees do less than outfield players, but the peak forces experienced at the knee will be the same. In other countries maybe, but here he won't be back before 9 months, and more likely 12+.

I think Thomas and Kitching are pretty decent but unlikely they'll be available for every game and it's the depth of Binks and Lati that worry me. At least one needs to go and then a replacement in. Similar with the keepers I can't see a signing being sanctioned unless Collins can be let go/sold.

Need to spend millions on a new striker to help the team that scored the 4th most goals in the division last year, but taking a stopgap GK on loan so you don’t have to play your third choice keeper could tip the club over the edge.

Whilst that's true that we were 4th highest, we create a lot more and our XG was much higher. If we want to be so offensive and create lots of chances, then we have to accept that we will also give up more chances and more goals. Many cite Wilson's good season as being down to the defence. It's ok if that's how you see it, but to be a fair comparison you would need a back 5 and 2 holders. If we played that way, our XG would be much lower and we would definitely need to score a higher percentage of those chances to be successful, so a centre forward or one our current crop to step up and hit numbers is just as crucial imo.

The dislike for him by some on here is way ott. He's not perfect but certainly capable of filling in and certainly better than Collins. The suggestion we can't make top 6 with him when we have done exactly that before is also weird.

People talk about a slow ageing Fadz as if he was the sole reason, I'd suggest as much as I like Fadz and he did play well, that 5 at the back would help any keeper but wouldn't create the chances we get now. Any keeper will be more exposed and therefore likely let more in if we're being more offensive, though we do need to take more of those chances created at the other end. I'd say the individual defenders are better than we had 2 season ago (with the exception of Doyle) and so no reason at all he couldn't start - that's the point of a back up until Dovin is fit.

Some of the experienced keepers suggested woudl also command big wages and that's why they are cheap or free. I saw someone saying you get Kepa for £5m. Not only would he not have considered us, but he signed on a 2 year deal for around £150k per week. I know they weren't suggesting we were in for him, but it's wages and contract length that need factoring in for hopefully only a short tem fix. ACL's for keepers are unusual and we don't want to stifle or risk losing Dovin who will only improve and hopefully be our keeper for the next 10 years.
I'm wondering if Frank's going to be pragmatic to our situation and indeed play with a five ATB formation for the duration of Dovin's absence?say 20games minimum?

That would be ridiculous, not pragmatic. Why make your team weaker and less of an attacking threat by adding Lati or Binks to the back line at the probable expense of Sakamoto or EMC? You cannot play a back 5 and a sitting midfielder like Grimes, while there is also no obvious team in the league that should scare us into playing a more defensive formation in the form of a back 5. The only feasible situation FL might consider it I guess would be if Grimes gets injured, and even then I think it unlikely.

Whilst that might be true, your obsessed hatred of him in about 1,000+ posts on him is equal. You don't like him, we get it.
That's a bit dramatic. But you're not the only one pushing that line out.

Or is Lati the most hated player as lots on here don't want him playing for us. Binks is hated for being shite. Is Eccles hated for being Eccles?

Just one question. Why do we make lists of all positions that we need to strengthen but as soon as we mention we need to strengthen what is arguably the most important position on the pitch you'd think we have a very good GK already to cover for Dovin and there's no way we could bring in someone better unless we spend millions on a player.

If we end the transfer window with Wilson as number 1 this thread will get bumped fairly regularly as he costs us points.
Yes, but if we spend shedloads of cash to plug all our inferior players we could start a new thread themed on having to sell the ground, playing in the bottom tier, never buying anyone, playing in other cities and generally being forgotten. And yes, I know we don’t own the ground, just added it for dramatic effect.

1 signing the club needs is a goalkeeper for 4-5 months
imagine paying a keeper from the PL £10k a week for 20 weeks - Thats £200k , FFS we can generate that overnight if needed and it could be the difference this season
You need to phone Frank and Dean Austin and illustrate how easy it is.

I think most agree that we need better than Brad and Ben.

That being the case, what happens when Dovin comes back? Do we have these pair on the bench in case of another forced change ... or would it be better to upgrade and move them on?

Think it's reasonable to have two decent keepers challenging for the no 1 spot than keeping your fingers crossed the main man becomes (and stays) fit.

We need quality loan keeper in the window. sorry, but none of our available keepers are simply where we need to be if we want to be challenging from the off. We saw the difference Dovin made once he got a run a in the side and he was a match winner with his keeping.
If we don't get a keeper in we could be 10-20 points short by the time Dovin comes back in what looks like the new year and then he's got to get back up to speed.

Many people are just looking at the outlay and not the effect.

We have seen that when we're competing near the top of the table we get sellout crowds. When we're not up there we're thousands short of a sellout. Let's just call it £20 a ticket although it would be higher. For each 1,000 extra tickets sold the income goes up by £20,000. Without cup games it works out something like 2.5 home games a month. So about an extra £50k a month for each extra 1,000 tickets sold per game. So over 9 months it's an extra £450k. Get another cup run and we're talking serious money.

Get a poor start like we usually do the casual supporters don't turn up in big numbers.

Can’t we just put Collins up for loan or for sale as a free transfer and see if we get any bites?

I still don’t get why we extended Wilson’s contract and then even when both were fit played Collins as his preference at the start, surely we should have just let Wilson go

I'm sure most are aware Collins is available. Most transfers are done through agents now before clubs even speak to each other.

Wasn't Wilsons contract extension due to one of those clauses in his previous contract same as happened with Bidwells?

Listen to any highly successful manager … they all say the same thing …. Your keeper is critical to your success. Pep changed Hart as one of his first decisions, he was England keeper at the time.

Dovin us our medium term number 1 but a loan until January for a better keeper than Wilson has to be the right step forward.

We faced more shots on target per 90 than half the league.

Sheff Wed, Boro, Derby, Preston, Swansea, WBA, Millwall, Sheff Utd, Sun’d, Burnley, Leeds

I suggest we focus on solving that more than signing another GK to cover an injury

You suggested Collins was better than Wilson so I don’t think your suggestions carry much credence

I'd wager it's because we play more attacking football and so there is naturally more space at the back.

Lampard isn't going to change his philosophy so we're best off finding someone who can make saves.
