That wasn't the issue, it was the fact that it was orchestrated before the game kicked off.

But, as you say, it's the present that counts.

I too was at the game in 1977. An orchestrated outcome wouldn’t have seen us go into a 2-0 lead or squander that lead before the Sunderland game ended.

Just like 1997 all Sunderland had to do was equal our result for their safety. I can understand why all those associated with Sunderland were pissed off about the delay and the last 15 mins of “play” but the people who bring up Tottenham delaying their kickoff in 1997 seem to blame us as well (and ignore the fact that Spurs really really tried to send us down that day)

And why have Sunderland fans never been angry with Bristol City for 1977 ?

Given the kidk off was delayed because the Police requested it given late arrival of supporters, of course it was orchestrated before kick off. When else could it have happened? After the final whistle or half time? Pratt.

I wasn’t born until 1983 so It was before my time but my point has always been - they ignore the fact they didn’t win enough games over the season but blame their relegation SOLELY over the fact our game was delayed.

Mass enough points then it doesn’t matter.
It’s such a bullshit resentment from them.

A typical example where blame is cast externally rather than blaming themselves

I suppose Jimmy hill grinning with their manager in their dressing room and sharing champagne didn’t help.

Especially as their manager was his mate

Constantly seeing their goal on instagram and every time it grates me. Getting so much attention on football accounts and just feels like it should be us.
