It is on my BBC app. First article in 'Cricket'.
Think its a reference to the fact that on the cricket home page the story is categorised as women's cricket.

Think that's a quirk of the website. Those labels are essentially tags so this story is categorised under mens cricket, womens cricket and cricket.

But the website doesn't seem to really cope with that and only displays one category against the story on the cricket home page.

Yeah, it should just be tagged "Cricket"! No England Women will be on the 2025 list given the absolute hiding they got in the "Ashes", so this won't be an issue next year!

wtf is the baller league?
Watched it and I still don't know!
From what I can see, A glorified 6a-side with some you-tubers(?) apparently (?) commentating and managing teams.
Players are non league players, a few ex pro's with a sprinkling of FL appearances between them, and a fat Troy Deeney, who in his first game belly bounced an opposing player and got sent off.

It is shite!

Fully expecting Brad Collins to rock up next season..... As a back up!

Wow 🤣 I'm not sure she has any self awareness.

The problem with Womens football is that it has franchised itself to the Premier League. Many of the teams do not play at the grounds they are badged to.

It has created an illusion that the top league has equal status to the mens

There was a complaint about the Final played on Derbys pitch with the players saying it was disrespectful as the players are elite athletes and although its OK for lower league mens football premier players should not play on it - the irony that many games are played at non league stadia seems lost on them

I don't think they really have much self awareness either then.

The League Cup final was played on Derby's pitch not long after our game there. It looked pretty ropey to be honest.

Just stumbled across this thread, but tell me there's not an agenda without saying there's not an agenda.

Pub league level with pitiful attendances lower than L2 being above an FA Cup Semi final.

Just to be clear, I have no issue with women's football, bit the "on par" debate is a joke. They played a game at the Emirates and have fuck all theree, then want equal pay 🤡🤡🤡🤣🤣🤣

Scottish FA will protect the women's game, at last.
FA of England must follow suit asap

I disagree. Each one affects dozens of opponents and team mates. Many hundreds of women have been affected, some injured, some displaced and many self-excluding.

I have personally received a broken wrist from a ball hit very hard by a male player when I played mixed walking football for seniors. I have personally witnessed at least four broken bones sustained by women caused by male players. Now, clearly, these women should consider no longer playing mixed football and go to the women's category. They have a right to expect that they will encounter no males in the women's events.

From the scale of the coverage, I would have thought we’d be talking about thousands if not tens of thousands, rather than dozens and hundreds.

I okay co-ed football over here and on our 8 a side team we have two women on as a minim at all times. no problem as they are above average for our team! give as good as they get and go full steam into tackles you absolutely love to see it

not disagreeing with your point though, just saying don’t think every time men play with women women get injured, by any means.

Just means you are backing out of 50/50s with them, man up ;)

The scale of coverage is about righting a wrong, which should always be big and welcome news.
Of course, an interesting question is why it took so long and why we are seeing no apologies to women and girls who have been discriminated against all this time. Perhaps a few lawsuits will focus minds.

i absolutely support the push for equality in sport, and it's great to see women's football finally getting more attention. But don't think the answer has to be retrospective apologies, expecially when there are major gender equality issues today around pay, healthcare, and autonomy that should probably go above football apologies on the list

also on the debate RE filtering mens and womens football news on sites like the BBC. To me, it's not about dismissing one of the other, it's just acknowledging they're different games, like olympic vs paralympic sport or youth vs adult football, or men's vs women's tennis. Equal visbility is very important but forcing identical treatment isn't the same as fairness. giving users the option to tailor their feed shouldn't be taboo.

i think should focus on investment and increasing access going forward, not on performative gestures that risk missing the bigger picture

I don’t think the timing of the announcement is any great mystery. I also think apologies are unlikely given this appears to be mostly about the FA moving to comply with the law now they have (welcome) legal clarity on the issue, as opposed to some kind of moral stance.

I don't think apologies are performative.
I suspect the FA has received legal advice that lawsuits could be on the way, which is why they have swiftly reversed a policy issued only a few weeks ago.
For my part I would be considering taking legal advice on grounds for compensation, if I had been injured by a male in the women's game.
An apology would, perhaps, persuade me not to.

This is a poor excuse. I suspect the FA will use it anyway. The FA has ignored legal arguments which have told them they have been failing to use the existing law to protect the women's game for at least a decade.
They didn't listen. Draw your own conclusions.
