Transfer Rumour Haji Wright (5 Viewers)

Me neither I was nervous we were spending huge sums on players and was worried about Kitching for 4.5m and got a few pelters. We had 20m and our recruitment team gambled it away while solid signings (that were used to) like Lati and Binks who cost next to nothing look promising.
imagine the start of the season if we had only spent 5-10mil, the fury on here would be worse. People are complaining that we didn't spend enough.

It's still too early to be writing players off but it doesn't look good. You're naive to think people wouldn't bitch and moan no matter what happened.

In which case, why did we break our transfer record for a defender we didn’t need that much?

It’s about who we signed. MvE no one has an issue with dropping £3M on. Simms too seemed OK. Wright, Kitching, Collins and to some extent Thomas all seem weird signings. Not to mention the complete refusal to sign a CM.

While you’re certainly not wrong, my main reason for feeling miserable about the team tonight is the thought that we’ve apparently squandered a once-in-a-generation opportunity to bolster the team with tens of millions worth of new signings. If we still had the money in the bank at least I’d have a bit of hope for the next few windows.

He has, and from what I have seen, he looks decent... So, why bring in a player who we valued at about £2.5m to begin with, at the expense of a piss poor midfield.
Was it at the expense? We have money to buy a midfielder, I’m sure it’s just a case of it was too late to go for our Hamer replacement. I’d rather we hold off and get someone for the long run rather than panic buy for the sake of it

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Look back after the first 2-3 games, everyone was saying we've robbed Barnsley for Thomas.

Collins cost about half a mil, he hasn't had a chance to prove himself because GK isn't a position you chop and change at a drop of a hat.

Wright was excessive and I'll agree, I was nervous as hell spending that much.

I'm feeling miserable too but let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater.

As bad as it feels now, we have some players here.

O'Hare, Hamer, Gyok, Sheaf all took 1-3 seasons before people thought they were good enough. Do you really think people on here would have that patience?

Don’t be silly - all of them bar maybe Gyokeres looked promising in their first eight games for us.

The fees for all of them combined might not have been enough to sign Liam Kitching this summer.

I was first to say 6 weeks ago. I'm getting Bakayako vibes. This guy isnt a footballer.

It's actually a disservice to Baka to compare Wright to him.

This loser has no heart or fight shocking player.

Hindsight truly is a wonderful thing. With Allen back and no Sheaf injury we would’ve been fine til Jan, still lacking creativity of course. But so late in the window to replace Hamer, I doubt many clubs would be too keen to lose that sort of player without extortionate prices

Surely MR briefed them on what types of player he was after and had the final say?
I'd hope so, but with the set-ups in football these days you can never be sure.

But my point was that if we're saying that both the scouting/recruitment dept and MR were responsible for the signings, I'd rather sack off the recruitment dept and let them take the rap for it than MR.

Absolute bollocks. For most of his time with us we've had an O'Hare thread that has not long finally died.

At the start of last season people were saying Hamer wasn't worth keeping because he can't be trusted.

Don't get me started on Sheaf, the first couple of years here was constantly ripped apart.

People have short memories. (I'm not specifically referring to you by the way)

I could see from watching all of those players they were going to be regular contributors who would improve the squad - are there even any nailed-on starters in any of the summer signings this year?

Revisionism. Plenty were questioning buying Vik.
Gyo was quite a bit younger when he arrived and had been recovering from COVID initially, but he clearly had something about him.

Wright is 25 and far more expensive but looks devoid of any self belief.

One thing Gyokores always did was batter defenses physically, even on a bad day defences knew they were bruised.

This guy has.

No strength.
No first touch.
Cant hold the ball up.
Cant head the ball.
Cant stay on side.
Missed a sitter...so cant score.
His technique is very bad.
He actually doesnt know what he wants to do with the ball.

Worst of all doesnt look like hes trying.

I'm struggling to see the positives, his one attribute pace didnt look like it was there.

When he come on today I actually told my shut it with that pathetic song that hes done nothing to deserve.

Vik did not batter defences in his first season ffs. He was 10x the player last year than the one we saw on loan.

People are losing their heads.

I am losing my head tbh. Cos I will never get over the fact we paid £7.7M for this fraud. Not his fault we gave him a 4 year contract.

Its alot of money wasted.

250k would have been too much.

Why didnt we pay the extra £2M and bought absolute class like Pirloe from Swansea. Guaranteed and proven top top goalscorer.

Gamble has back fired. He may go on and score 10 goals. Wo t change the fact hes a shocking footballer.

I’m tempted to give Obikwu a chance at this rate. He might just try harder. Wright looks worse than Bakayoko, but at least Baka was a low risk gamble and unlike Wright.

??? Piroe would never have come here, and neither would Pirlo because he's retired. I assume you're thinking of some sort of hybrid?

Looking at it from Wright's point of view, he's going to have to sort himself out and come good, or he may just end up destroying his own career. Watching his previous interviews, getting into the US team clearly meant a lot to him, and he's obviously worked hard to get to where he is. But he is in danger of blowing all that.

Looks like we need to find a couple of forwards in January.

What an utter mess this summers recruitment turned out to be.

Pair are on 4 year contracts. £10m wasted.

Nah. Simms will come good, you can tell there’s a player in there. Wright is a right off. Play him on the wing then sign an actual wide forward in Jan and hope someone is dumb enough to have Wright for say £4/5m

He looks like a competition winner. I cannot fathom what our scouting team have seen in him to warrant that outlay on him. He looks completely lost.
We were supposedly looking at him before the playoff final, which suggests it’s not just the new recruitment team.
