We're relying on our league 1 players after spending £20m and it's pathetic.

To be fair, our squad needed more depth and it now has more depth. Those 4 players, despite being with is in L1, have all done well for us in the Championship.

Our biggest problems are at the back and midfield.

Thomas had a absolutemare, so I can see him being dropped again (for a long while).

And in midfield, Ayari went missing, while Eccles and Kelly literally spent the game falling over each other.

In general our passing is substandard and there’s little to no purposeful forward thinking play from our midfield.

Bright spots: Simms worked his arseoff, Saka was always looking to go forward and take people on.. and Allen injected some energy when he came on.

Some irony to that, given how many chances he has also missed…particularly against Leicester of course

In fairness to Wright, and this won't be a popular opinion, I actually thought he offered a bit more than Simms when working the channels and perhaps added a bit of energy when he came on. But the miss was hideous I'm afraid.

Anyone who thinks Godden doesn't add anything except goals, presumably didn't notice some of the clever work he did outside the box tonight.

The problem is that we need him in the box anyway because no other bugger seems likely to score!

All that said, if Godden gets twenty goals this season and spends 85 minutes in a deck chair every game, that's good enough for me. Our problems like elsewhere, imho.
