He'll be fine. He's just learning how we play.

Completely agree. He’s still learning where he should be running and where Godden is going as well.

Wright is the same, but his pace is masking it - which Simms doesn’t have.

I literally said in my post I'm not writing him off

Do you want me to draw you a picture or are you just unable to read?

Sorry babes 💙
I don't mind a bit of constructive criticism, although it is still very soon to judge him. Was more aimed at the twitter types saying he is shit already. Bizarre take.

Personally I think he'll annoy the more basic fans because he is big and languid. Doesn't mean he can't be effective but he isn't gonna be the gung-ho dynamic battering type that gets people off their seat. Luckily we have Wright for that. Good to have a mix to chose from.

A couple of times Simms could have been away yesterday, but Sheaf and Eccles just kept running with ball and didn't release the pass, much to his frustration.

But we have to expect that with 5 new outfield players starting yesterday and a couple more coming off the bench.

Players still learning about each other. Remember last week played Sunday, played Wednesday (getting back late), played Saturday.

So most the week it would have been recovery and Tuesday and Friday prepping for game next day. So not full training sessions.

As fans we have to give the players and coaching staff time to work on things.

At the very least until after the international break. And even then now we’ll be missing half the squad on international duty it seems!

I'm pretty confident that Simms will be a success for Cov. Still reeling his way into the team who are largely still a major work in progress. He needs a goal and more game time . Currently it's difficult to leave out Godden and Wright is a proper handful who I think in the short term will be starting ahead of Simms. Patience is key and I envisage when he gets the opportunity he will flourish playing alongside Wright

I can't see Robins playing 2 big strikers together. He loves Godden anyway and if he gets injured will probably play one up front.
Hope I'm proved wrong and I'd certainly like to see them tried together.

With the money spent on Wright and Simms it must be very much in MR's mind to play them together, although Godden has thrown a spanner in the works as to when we are likely to see that combination in any regularity. Don't know if Wright played up front on his own in Turkey but my impression is that both he and Simms are better with a forward partner.

The 1 up front is more likely to be a Plan B borne of injuries, form and suspensions, and therefore a matter of neccessity rather than choice, although when O'Hare returns I guess it will be more of a possibility.

Would have just thought O'Hare would take Palmer's place

It’s not a given COH will come in and replace Palmer. COH may not be the same upon his return and Palmer is highly rated by MR and Viveash. COH will need to work his way in and that’s without discounting Sakamoto and/or a potential new signing.

We’ll certainly see both of them appear in the box formation too.

I've seen enough to see there's a decent player in there, it's just getting it out of him, that's all, as some have eluded too, he's hardly kick a ball since January, so he won't be sharp, plus hes learning how we play. I think he'll take a while to get going but it'll suddenly click and he'll be banging them in every week.

Yeah, I think he will get one and then go on a scoring run.

Palmer has been great so far, tires a bit towards the end I suppose but he is a sparky player that tries the audacious.

Just great to have some options.

Simms and Godden worked well in the FGR friendly but they have been heading in the same channels a bit of late. I reckon that understanding will come

Wright should be starting now ahead of Simms, simple as. Wright has shown much more in the league games in a much lesser amount of time. I don’t really agree that Sims has to learn how we play he is a striker it should be natural. It’s much harder for a wingback to understand how we play more than a striker. I do think he will score goals, but he should be trying to earn his place now instead of Wright.

It’s pretty obvious the end game was to have Wright and Simms playing together- we’re not rich enough yet to be spending £3.5m on a backup.

Assume Wright is being eased in due to lack of preseason with the squad and Godden will be hard to drop if he keeps scoring.

Not sure Robins fancies 1 up top if it’s not someone with Vik’s abilities.

Jury is still out on Simms for me. Watched a lot of him on Saturday. MR obviously loves his forwards holding the ball up in the channels, which he does, but everything after that is just frustrating. Doesn’t make the runs. Watch him when we win the ball back, he’s not on his toes.

Damn Gyökeres spoiled is huh

Disagree. He made plenty that weren't spotted vs. 'Boro. Lots of his goals at Blackpool and Sunderland were through balls where he's on the last shoulder or times a run for a ball in behind. I get he has to adapt, but he is making runs.

Mentioned this in the match thread, but there was a moment where Simms was released down the channel by DaSilva. Was ball side, defender a couple of yards behind.

Now i dont know if its because we were spoiled by Vik, but what I saw from that position was shite.

He ended up stumbling around, ball never under control and if anything had started to roll out, he nudges it along a bit whilst flailing about, somehow allows the defender to get round him and start taking the ball away, simms drags him back and fouls him.

I just found that piss poor, thats bread and butter for a big striker isnt it, shield the ball near the touchline, try and hold it up, lay the ball off or win a foul or throw.

And when the foul was given it was just nonchalant 'meh'. I'll reserve until after the international break before i become overly critical but i just thought that, along with the movement I've seen from him isnt that standard i thought he would bring as of yet
