Ah ok, I thought it was playing staff only.

Our wage bill is close to £16 million. The vast majority will be players and management

Most other employees will be on very little - there are no directors receiving a salary in the last set of accounts

Then that’s fair enough. I thought playing/coaching and non-playing staff would be separate.

Non playing will be a very low percentage of the total anyway

Management seems a very umbrella term considering the accounts say that we have 134 players and management, i would estimate that around 40 staff will be on significant wages. It averages out to about £2.2k per week per employee. Its really hard to judge and primarily guess work.

Really? Didn't that article posted yesterday state that our wage bill is about £4m or something like that?

I think I read that that article wasn't 100% accurate but I don't for a second believe our wage bill is over £1m a month (or was). Top earner on £20k? You'd need 50 of those to hit a million a year.

That article had us only paying 15 players and Tavares earning more than Godden, Kelly and Mcfazdean.

Poor Mcfazdean earns less than Jack Burroughs apparently

Playing staff will be the significant element - the justification for poor commercial activity is that we diverted most resources to fund the playing side

I'm not sure if Im reading the accounts wrong, is it suggesting that all the temporary staff on matchdays are included in that £16m figure too. It would be really interesting to know the breakdown of wages into playing staff and others

People here don’t know what they’re talking about half the time. This is an absolutely massive coup for a Championship club.

He has a 1 in 2 goal ration in a decent league where there are a lot of technical players plus defenders like to play tough with attackers.

He has just turned 25 and is an international striker who scored at the World Cup.

Here’s a list of clubs that have bid for him or shown strong interest in him:

Rangers
Crystal Palace
Brentford
Villareal
Inter Milan
Sevilla
Galatasary
Fenebarche
Besiktas
Southampton

These are not mug clubs and they know a good thing. We want to be back in the mix for a promotion push, and with Wright and Simms that means at least 30 goals between them, but it will be higher in my opinion.

We won’t be paying big money without doing some bloody thorough homework. Exciting times to be a Coventry fan!

Bit of an odd post to support a signing by naming a lot of big clubs that aren’t “mug clubs and know a good thing” when these clubs walked away

Gyokeres a great recent example of a busy agent trying to increase his clients profile. We were supposed to believe 15+ clubs wanted to sign and there was going to be a mammoth bidding war, in the end goes to Sporting uncontested

I think he definitely had more options like wolves and Everton, dyche even came out and said he missed out on him, but Gyokeres mind was set on Portugal pretty much as soon as we lost the playoff final

Do we know that other clubs, including Premier League clubs weren't interested? May well be that Gyokeres made it clear that he wasn't interested in playing in the Premier League and only wanted to join Sporting.

Dylan Vente even more so

Sorry, in that example, yes. I meant '50 of those to get £1m a month', not years.
But the £20k wages are per week aren't they, not per month. £20k/week is £1m/year for just one player, so only 12 players on that salary costs £1m/month?

That’s football wages, lots of championship players on well over a million a year, Leicester wage bill is apparently over 60mill a year, almost 50% more than their parachute payment.

That sounds extremely far fetched to me but another possibility yes

At a certain price every club is interested!

Definitive statement of intent, and if the rumours are true and he does sign (regardless of the fee involved, as it will be inflated regardless, for a proven goal scorer in the Turkish top flight), I think this lad will be a handful for any Championship defence.
The scouting team have obviously tried to find a Vik replacement: a mobile, aggressive, goalscorer who can turn his man, and his style of play seems to suit us. Definite boxes ticked.

I was going to throw in a ‘Wright Stuff’ pun, but I felt momentarily like I was going to be sick in my own hands.

Onwards and upwards. PUSB. ⚽️

He's an international striker for the 11th ranked best team in the world.

Sounds good on paper. Happy for MR/AV to work their magic.
