I'm genuinely saddened by this news, but as far as I can tell everyone is at work today. Tomorrow, people will be on the High St shopping; pubs will be open, restaurants running as normal and people will be going to the movies. Why is it only football that has to make these grand gestures? Also, football bring communities together, so there would have been some really nice scenes tomorrow and people would have raised a glass.

It seems this benefits nobody, certainly those who have spent good money on non-refundable train and hotel bookings; or local businesses who will have stocked up on food and drink, some of which will now have to given away or thrown away because it won't last until October 1st. Doesn't make much sense tbh.
Totally agree. If they locked down the whole country this weekend, then I can understand cancelling the football, but if shops, cinemas etc are opening it seems unfair to postpone sport only.

Iv just heard that the Gov have told Premier League and EFL matches can go ahead this weekend and Clubs set to meet at 11am and make a decision.

But also heard they have been told not to play them. so who knows what's going on

Who is telling them not to play them?

I am pretty sure the clubs themselves won't want to postpone.

Who knows. Guess we should find out after 11.

Will be a piss take if the EFL/EPL postpone them if they are allowed to take place.

It seems the decision is up to the leagues, this from The Athletic:

"The UK government has told football leagues that games can go ahead this weekend — but has left the decision in the hands of governing bodies.

It is unclear what the Premier League, EFL and Football Association — who organise the Women’s Super League — will choose to do."

It gives us some hope but I imagine none of them will want to be seen as disrespectful and make the call to go ahead. PL meeting at 11, I'd guess the EFL with either take their lead or have their own meeting around that time.

So if they are off it's going to be down to the EFL / FA being do-gooding pretentious pricks.
Well im not a pretentious prick and no do gooder but I ve no problem with the game being postponed out of respect to the Monarchy.
I think that you vastly under estimate the millions of people not only in the UK but world wide who will be in mourning.

Respect your viewpoint, but I doubt that the millions, whilst mid-mourning, would be outraged that football is being played, as I'm sure it would not impact them.

In that case we'd be looking at the lowest attendances across the country.
I can't see it somehow.

I am being realistic, today is pretty much a normal work day. Kids are at school, traffic was the same (if not worse).

I think it's an overestimate to think there are millions of people in the UK actually unable to carry out their daily lives due to grief.

I can guarantee that a hell of a lot more people would be affected by events and sport being called off as opposed to them being on.

The playing of the National Anthem and a 2 minute silence before every EFL & EPL game would be a fitting tribute. However, it seems the Govt are passing the buck here, the football authorities will probably postpone all games. However people will still go to pubs, shops, restaurants, clubs as normal. Ridiculous

What’s more respectful?

- Millions if people grumbling your name because your death has disrupted their lives

or

- Hundreds of thousands singing your name before games across the land?

Let them go ahead and let’s all get together for a rendition of the national anthem at 3pm.

The official 'mourning' guidance has been released by the government, no expectation that fixtures are cancelled even if on the day of the funeral as long as the timing doesn't clash directly.

Any cancellation would be presumably the FA or EFL's decision - if I was CCFC I'd be challenging any decision to cancel.

I don't know how much clout they have, but the likes of Gary Neville & Piers Morgan (Huckerby & Ben Stokes too) saying play on via social media has developed a ground swell and hopefully the FA/EFL 'read the room".

So all games off then!!!

The Premier League and EFL are set to cancel matches this weekend after the death of the Queen despite official guidance saying that there is no obligation to do so.

The guidance released by the government says sporting bodies should consider postponing events on the day of the state funeral, likely to be a week on Monday, but all decisions are at their discretion.

The Premier League and EFL are due to decide at about lunchtime today but there are concerns that policing issues may affect games, while some clubs feel it is the right thing to do as a mark of respect.

Just like before the West Ham game last night where there was a rousing rendition of GSTQ after the minutes silence. And the Real Sociedad fans standing with their flags aloft whilst observing it impeccably.

A much more poignant and powerful way to honour her life across a global scale.

If the games are cancelled, I think fans should gather at the pubs outside the grounds around the country anyway.....national pissed-up street kickabout, a pie & a bit of a brawl........its what she would have wanted.

If no guidance. Then EFL should foot the bills for travel and accommodation. As it's them making the decision.

They won't give a shit will they.

If anything it will be about the big bosses trying to get on the good side of people for their own gains.

Prince William should be demanding they are played, he's involved with the FA after all isn't he?
