As i don’t know what the differences in the current testing requirements/regimes I thought I’d check rates for whole of the pandemic, bearing in mind Scotland, as well as being far less densely populated has also worn masks for a lot longer…

It does make a difference thoigh albeit minimal

It might do, especially in certain specific settings, even though in general the data between England and Scotland suggests otherwise. However, as TGP comments highlight, and I’ve also seen this first hand, the NHS/health services need to be looking at the bigger picture including their own Covid rules if they want to ease the pressure

edit - just to be clear though, if I was seeing someone high risk, I would still wear a mask or if someone asked me to. However, in terms of the general population, it looks like if you mix with people eventually you’ll get it from somewhere whatever the mask rules are

Yep when the prevalence is so high as now. Me and my mum have had it for the first time the last couple of weeks

Problem is Steve there isn’t data for what the cases would have been without compulsory mask wearing. It’s very simple to look at that data and say it doesn’t work. Fact is in all likelihood the figures would have been worse not the same without compulsory mask wearing. This is what we’re seeing now, the masks have gone, everyone who is getting the jab has had it wether that’s 1,2,2 and a booster and even 2 and 2 boosters for some. Immunity between the jabs and infection is probably at the highest it’s ever been, numbers were dropping then bang, end compulsory mask wearing in public indoor settings and the numbers start rising again even though community testing is way down meaning in all likelihood that the numbers are much higher than they actually are.

There’s plenty of data to show that masks have a positive impact. Not just over the last couple of years either. Medical professionals haven’t been wearing masks for decades and decades by accident.

but it’s stated as the reason the nhs can’t cope? It’s better then in Wales say? No concerns at waiting lists in Swansea?

I’m sure there are

Sturgeon insisting on the return of face masks has had no impact has it? It’s her just politically grandstanding and her Scexit politicisation plan isn’t it?

As I say, I know they work in certain settings ie face to face, patient to doctor etc. However Scotland have retained indoor mask wearing for far longer periods than us and still have measures in place yet have/have had higher rates ? This suggests in those settings, in the grand scheme of things it doesn’t appear to have much of an affect on its own

I’m not an anti masker. I’ve wore a mask recently to protect myself as I was due an op and didn’t want it delayed for 7 weeks due to hospital Covid rules so I believe it reduces my chance of getting it….but I also avoided busy settings, sat in the Covid stand on my own up the CBS and didn’t got to busy bars etc before my op…all of which would’ve provided far greater protection

I would also wear a mask if I was meeting someone high risk and believe everyone should do

My point was that I think it’s a cop out from that NHS confederation guy. He should be looking at their Covid rules/measures if they want to reduce pressure.

The rules make little difference. People either wear masks or don’t based on how they feel. Anecdotally having been in London and Glasgow recently the compliance is about the same regardless.

Everyone i know since Omicron became a thing that has caught it has literally had a cold. Positive for 5 days max

The worlds living with this now, absolutely no need for a step back, the NHS is under pressure due to the pure backlog and the fact GP's still cant be arsed to do their job so you get people turning up at A+E with ailments that should be being dealt with at GP stage

UHCW has barely anyone in with Covid, and those that are are in for other issues and have tested positive

Well it is true, because i said people I know of, not yourself. Every single one was a bit tired but felt otherwise fine.

Of course its not great you were ill, and glad you're better, but 3 days feeling like shit for those who get it bad is hardly reason enough to go back to any measures

I think where those measures have little or no consequences it’s a no brainer

NHS has called for a return of face masks from the government. Have basically said that the government has abandoned the NHS if it doesn’t.
For this government they'd consider it a good thing.

Heap pressure on NHS
NHS struggles to cope and performance figures drop
Government says NHS not fit for purpose and should become privatised to improve KPI's
Sell it off to their rich mates

Job's a good'un.

China is in full on mental mode now.....they've started phyiscally fencing in 25 million people in shanghai overnight......

Zero covid policy was always pure folly.

Add the facts of a huge population, shit vaccines, a shit healthcare system & no natural immunity built up in community, food shortages & an economy thats grinding to a halt....

How do they think they're ever going to get out of the mess they've got themselves in?

Indeed, but the rest of the world is likely to suffer from this as it already is to an extent with supply issues. Maybe globalisation isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Interesting in Italy they wanted FFP2 masks and a ‘Green Pass’ everywhere-but in San Marino we were told ‘COVID doesn’t exist here’ and no masks were required. Guess viruses don’t like the mountain air.

Apparently in the German-speaking area it doesn’t exist either due to natural medicine and mountain air.

That still goes on between carriages on the trains as well.
I reckon about 50% of restaurants have only ever asked me for the green pass.

Everywhere we went checked it except in San Marino where there wasn’t a requirement. Even in Naples, which surprised me a bit given it’s shall we say a bit rough and ready.
