Think you might see more people buying tickets on Saturday. Also, there isn't a matchday increase in price so there is no real incentive to buy in advance

Yep. No point faffing around buying online, printing a ticket etc when you can walk up on the day and get in at the same price.

If there is a big walk up on the day you can guarantee there won't be enough cash turnstiles available so you might yet find yourself faffing around anyway.

True, although with the telegraph stand being open, you'd imagine there will be extra gates open for cash turnstiles.

What if it's 21,000; that's 17.2K City, or what if it is 22K? What sort of crowd do you think we should be getting for this game? When does it go from poor to OK?
If the weather is decent. I would expect a good walk up. Maybe 2 k. Loads probably been put off buying online with the ticket fiasco.

Easier to pay cash on gate.

Just don't get it

People moaned about wanting championship football - we have it
people moaned about getting back to the Ricoh - we have
People wanted a team to be proud of and carry on the upward trajectory - we have
People haven't been to a game for 18 months
People haven't seen us in our city for over 2 years

Yes Sky and shit kick off time

But seriously, what the fuck else do people want?

20k is decent. I'd say that's a minimum.

It's on Sky.
It's Sunday afternoon.
Loads on holiday...in the UK.
It isn't exactly cheap £30 quid.!

So 16k City

As i say, poor

Is it poor? With Covid, it being on TV, many currently on holiday, and it being on at a strange time I'd suggest that's about right.

Not forgetting plenty of people will inevitably use the ticket price as an excuse not to go. The vast majority of our fair-weather fans only attend if there's a deal on.

Covid plays a big factor IMO for a number of reasons:

Some people won't want to sit in a 20k crowd
Some people have lost jobs/income and can't afford it
After a few years away (Covid and being away from Ricoh) some people have probably just lost the enthusiasm for it

It's still going to be a great occasion and cracking atmosphere....20k plus hasn't happened too many times since we last got relegated.

It's giving me goosebumps....Will just be a huge relief that normality has arrived at football. Last game we went to Was Ipswich away. Can't wait.

personally I think it would be nice to know what the crowd actually was before moaning and complaining about it

Were gonna get 10K walk up so il be quiet now
Jesus wept, how many times does it need explaining?
The only fuckers moaning are the circa 12k hardcore, the rest of Coventry doesnt give a fuck, unless it's a day out at Wembley or a big cup game of course.
Get it I to your head, ffs, we are not a footballing (or rugby following) city!

This “hardcore” stuff is weird

we do well, more come, we don’t do well, less come- not dissimilar to every other club

down in league two- under 8k show up.. shot at Wembley, suddenly 40,000 want tickets- who’d have thought it? 😆

I don't think it'll be as low as you think. They'll be a good walk up, and it'll be one of the biggest crowds of the weekend - despite all the factors like TV, kick-off time and the fact it is the 1st time we've broken to £30 barrier in our history. Even had a call off our kid this morning who hasn't been for ages who is paying on the gate. Proper shocker that.

Don't agree with Fatso, very much a football city, and don't agree the casual fan 'doesn't give a shit' simply because they are casual fans. We have some great supporters. Wouldn't swap our away following for any other.

The hardcore are the 12k same old faces you see at most home games, some drift away occasionally but we will get 12k for every home game this season, let's see if we get 15k for Preston at home in the cold and rain though.

What is rediculous is the odd one or two on here who think we will be getting 25k+ every week, ffs, it ain't going to happen. Nowhere fucking near unfortunately.

Most Coventrians ain't interested enough to get off their arses and make the effort, regardless of ticket prices. Attending matches just isn't attractive for many people for whatever reason.

who has said we’re going to get 25k every week, or are you making that up as well

and this mythical 12k- do they just never get old? Do you have to go in a waiting list to join until someone drops out?

£500 bet right now that we will get more than 12K home fans for every single home league game this season (Covid capacity restrictions excluded).

Agree with the hardcore bit.

Pricing they gotta get right. £30 is very steep. For championship football. Id say for a premier league game maybe £30.

But on the other hand a season ticket is £375. Doesnt make sense not to buy one.

So true, the idea that is is the same 12K every week, and not simply a case that crowds , excluding ST holders, are made up from a large pool of fans who'll pick and choose games. Like the idea someone who goes Sunday but not to Reading, and someone else who does the opposite, are part of the same 'hardcore'.

I think the pricing isn't too far off, and season ticket prices were excellent value, but the fact that we only sold 10k shows how many fans wont actually go often enough to make the investment in a season ticket viable.

(Obviously some cant afford the initial outlay, etc etc)

Yep, make utterly batshit predictions like that and expect to be called out on it.
Your clearly the minority that just doesnt get it,

I think officially we will sell 12k home tickets easily including match packages etc. On average.

Wether they all turn up on winters midweek game vs Blackpool very much doubt. Will be about 8 to10k there although official attendance will be 12500.

I think iFollow has a big impact on the casual fan too.

Watching the game at home for a tenner much more appealing for many than spending £50/£60+ (if you're taking the kids/family) and £20 on a few pies and drinks.

If we only get 8k for a championship league game then we may as well sack the whole club off.

One thing attracts supports to grounds- excitement. If you're going for promotion, thats great. If you're fighting relegation, thats exciting too but only for the last few games. Either way your average fan wants excitement and something to get the blood pumping.

Apart from a couple of years (when nobody could watch) & the FA Cup we have had zero excitement for decades, just mediocrity, false dawns and disappointments

There are thousands of people who would come, but it takes a while to get people to change their buying habits- we are asking people to make an investment with their money and their time, and aside from a couple of seasons they'd have got zero back in return.

As a result its in the blood of loads of our fans to "wait and see". Which is understandable. And they wait, and nothing happens and we're still shite. More promises, more letdowns. Same old same old.

Also a reality is that nobody actually knows what this "hardcore" would be be if we had the same run as, say, Norwich or Stoke, because it has never bloody happened in most of our of our lifetimes.

Get what? I have been arguing all week that people's expectations are to high for this game; I have been agreeing with you on that. But to claim we'll only get 12K every week in this division, and that nobody outside of that 12K gives a shit about the club, doesn't qualify as grown up conversation.

The expectations are stupidly high- we are a captive audience on here, but most people will see £30, Sky. And if we don't sell out every seat its "nobody cares, I'm shocked, shows how small we are" stuff- lurching from one extreme to the other, the truth is in the middle and depends on what happens on the pitch.
