Age related voting in action.
Club's finest years (with teams which rarely feared relegation) were 60s and 70s but most fans think it was 80s and 90s.
Although our 87 cup win was the greatest attainment it was an aberration, after 3 close escapes from relegation, in a period of slow but inexorable decline. Even the late 90s teams never came as close to winning anything but flirted with relegation.
Not an aberration for me, that team finished 10th, 10th and 7th in 87, 88 and 89, i doubt we've had a team in our history finish 3 seasons like that on the bounce.

He wasn't that good in League 2 it was Kelly coming back from injury that got us promoted. The following year he assisted Notts County out of League status.

To be fair he did go there in January but there’s no doubt he benefits from recency bias.

Doyle v Carr, Mortimer, Hunt, Emmerson and Botang - oh come on.

Ok youngsters you might say I never saw them play, but you only have to read a bit of history to know they are better.

Mortimer left Cov went to Villa and captained them to old First Division title (Prem) and European Cup.

Also Konjic v Jimmy Holmes. Holmes went to Spurs and played for Ireland that beat one of the best Brazilian side ever!

These feats were not achieved 3 or 4 clubs later after Cov it was their next career step.

The vote wasn’t for who is the better player.

Michael Doyle is the biggest embarrassment considering who has played for us.

Mate, it's a popularity contest not a representation of our best players. It's for some fucking booths in a pub.

Get oot of town! Gary Mac contributed so much more than big Mo. Captain in the top flight, loads of appearances. Scotland captain at the time. Konjic barely kicked a ball for us in the prem from memory. They've taken the defensive options down now but it is a joke Konjic gets in ahead of Nilsson and Shaw, but yeah, they didn't have funny songs with a swear in.
It wasn’t based on what they contributed or who was the best player though.

It was essentially a personality contest and, Killer apart, not many defenders spring to mind as fan favourites.

Let’s be honest no one is going to give a shit after about their third pint.

Good gimmick, great marketing, fair play to them!

Was he? I'm sure he was Muslim too as remember the coverage of them both playing during Ramadan
That's why I thought he was Christian remember at the time people saying he did fast for that reason.
But I stand corrected posted without reading whole thread....

He is Muslim. You can find quotes by the man himself talking about it. He was brought up in France as opposed to Morocco, maybe for that reason was never as… ‘strict’, but he is Muslim.

I can't believe that when Reda Johnson and Carl Baker don't get a booth 😊

According to Wikipedia, Doyle was our player of the season in 2004/5, but I have no recollection of this at all.

Reckon it’d look cool if they painted some sort of mural on the brickwork. Can’t trust it wouldn’t be vandalised though. Drive past this in Wolves sometimes:
