Flatter to Deceive (2 Viewers)

Annoyingly I can't find it, but I could've sworn Grendel said the strikers as it stands aren't good enough.

That's true, the two who are / may be are out injured.

(Gyorkeres may or may not be tbf)

And that’s before opposition keepers knock out the rest.

Well oddly I don’t scout clubs looking for options and also would have zero idea whose available and who isn’t but even if chances are taken on lower league players if that’s all we can get - we have effectively lower league strikers playing now and they weren’t very good in the lower leagues
TBF I too do not scout players from other clubs as I am not interested in other clubs couldn't even tell you who has scored the most goals in any league.
I just take the comments on here about a player then hope for the best.
Funny enough all the great players we have signed as from comments on here generally turn out to be gash.
I am a CCFC fan not a football fan.

No, but if you’re bleating about the need for a better striker and can’t think of one we could get on our January budget it’s a bit moot.

Right and the only name you’ve tossed out is Leon Clarke. We did not have the funds to improve our quality up front, only the numbers.

I didn’t mention Leon Clark did now and it’s just lazy to say there aren’t better options

On our budget and available last month? Who?

Again this is a pointless discussion - the club has to decide that’s what it’s paid to do - it’s decided to spend wages on other areas of the pitch

Strikers better than what we’ve got will cost a premium compared to improvements in other positions-you know that.

I always find this argument odd. I can criticise a Jaguar powerplant without being expected to engineer a replacement.

It’s an odd argument to say ‘obviously we need a better striker why haven’t they signed one’ when you can’t put forward one suggestion. The reason we haven’t gone and done it is we can’t afford one because oddly enough every team in the league would be after a reliable goal scorer.

And we’ve played most of the season without either of our first choice players in that position.

it is t odd at all as we have no idea what James say is being paid but if it’s anything like the figures quoted it’s a lot more than either biamou or Bakayoko are paid

The principle of observing that, in your (generic you!) opinion a finite budget has overloaded in a particular area at the expense of another is perfectly fine, without having to name names.

If I had the answers, I'd be earning a fortune as chief scout somewhere!

No, but we have had both first choice strikers out for most of the season. Both players cost between £500k-1 mill, so to improve on them would likely cost more unless there is some dynamite hidden gem. But then again every team in the league is looking for a player like that.

If you can’t think of a goal scorer on our budget (and these players are easier to find with a cursory glance of goal stats than those in other positions) then you’ve answered your own question of why we haven’t signed one.

What was our budget before we signed James?

I don’t think it was 7 figures for fees and wages

So how much is James being paid and why can’t you have tried to use that to loan a striker of some experience?

Also as the club will lose £5 million probably on relegation and loans are already being advanced...

The teams around us have gone for Glenn Murray, Andre Green, Charlie Austin and Birmingham chose to spend £2 million on a guy who has scored 3 goals in the SPL. Would you have signed any of them? Could we have outmuscled the teams who ended up signing them?

Again it’s if you want to have a plan to survive and receive higher funds next year rather than risk a massive revenue reduction as well as wage bill thats too high

Ah I see. What sort of funds do you think would have been needed in light of the above?

Again you set a budget and sign player or secure a player on loan - if James is really on £18 a week that’s a a large amount

also heaven forbid we target a striker in a level below to try and make a step up rather than rely on two strikers who couldn’t even make the step up to league 1
Grendel are you watching this ?

Matty James is running this game

are we winning?

We have basically done that with Gyo

Wondering how Grendel is going to react to this James performance. Superb again today.

Has it led to a change in result? One win is it since he joined? That’s my point - no change in results

Your point was that he was an underwhelming player who flatters to deceive. Clearly neither is true, but your attempts to pivot to a different argument are fun all the same.

Whataboutery. We could have lost without him.

Why? They hardly threatened? We showed that we are easily competitive in every area but upfront.

James is like putting gold furry dice in a lada windscreen and ignoring the fact we have to win a road race with a knackered underperforming engine up front.

Get a new engine instead

I don’t think he adds any more than Kelly and it’s a pointless signing given the mess we are in

Thank god MR invested in the new engine otherwise we’d have been racing on a push bike (Shipley) today.

Is Kelly also an underwhelming player who flatters to deceive then? Just trying to keep this thread on topic.

But it’s ok to have a lumbering clueless buffoon at number 9 rather than trying to find a half decent alternative
