See I thought he linked well when we attacked and his movement was good too , agree he is still lightweight and struggles defensively but he was a lot lot better than midweek

but does he have a fitness issue? He looks absolutely knackered Relatively early in the games I’ve seen.

Hamer MOTM for me. Bossed it. Broke up the play when necessary, some brilliant touches and forward passes.

He is looking a real coup.

He does seem to have a Chris Waddle appearance about him when he plays , seriously though I don’t think Robins would start him if he had fitness issues

I would just love City fans to cut him some slack at times

Dabo looked much more on it tonight but we got away with some suicidal stuff at the back early doors. Need to work on that still but it is nit picking from a display that we were all urging to see. Big up to Robins picking them up after some demoralising results

I thought he was like this even last season. Always look knackered with less than an hour gone. But I guess they do monitor his stamina etc and must be happy with it.

Thought Rose looked better tonight. His header to deny their striker at the back post was class defending.

He was on the whole very solid tonight but he was too slow to close down for the first goal.

For me Hyam is the best centre back, followed by Ostigard and then there's not much between Mcfadzean and Rose.

Mcfadz has been great so far and is a real leader and presence, but his lack of pace does cause us problems at times, for example Swansea's opener and Boro's first.

All four are very good though and with injuries, suspensions and rotation they will all play a big part.

Marosi 8 - Couple of really important stops, particularly the 1v1 first half

Rose 7 - Started slowly but grew into it, 1 excellent clearing header
Ostigard 7 - Very powerful & commanding for one so young. Real threat from set pieces too
Hyam 7 - Usual, steady performance

Dabo 6 - Going forward was good, defensively still a step off the pace, lucky twice with suicidal passes

Hamer 7 - Exceptional in possession, a liability out of it
Sheaf 8.5 MotM - Just so calm & composed. Breaks up play & gets us moving. Almost always picks the right pass to alleviate pressure. Should have had an assist but for Biamou's miss
Shipley 6 - Better in possession, looks a threat going forward but a step slow in his thinking. Defensively far too easily stepped past

Giles 8 - Defended well & was always an outlet. Never afraid to take on his man & get the cross in.

Godden 8 - Worked tirelessly again, 1 assist & 1 goal, some lovely little touches & superb movement
Biamou 6.5 - Although not individually brilliant, did a real job for the team. First half there were some good touches & flick ons. Faded badly & should really have have scored twice though.

Subs:
O'Hare 7, Allen 7, McCallum 7.5

Marosi 8
Rose 6 - just needs to keep switched on
Ostigard 8
Hyam 8
Dabo 7
Giles 7 - got forward well and no major questions over him defensively
Sheaf 8 - strangely looks both very experienced / accomplished yet inexperienced in the same game. Could be some player
Hamer 7.5 - love his assertiveness, he'll get bookings yes but worth it for the effect on the opposition. Classy finish reminiscent of Jordan Shipley v Swansea
Shipley 7 - he's at at his best when we move the ball from back to front quickly, per the first goal. His runs into space help us do that
Biamou 6 - whilst he won a bit and occupied defenders he should have buried that chance.
Godden 8 - I think he's been good all season personally in difficult circumstances. Tbf to him when he gets a chance, more often than not he scores. No easy finish tonight but he made it look like one

Marosi 8.5- 2 really good stops
Dabo 7
Rose 7
Osti 8
Hyam 8
Giles 8.5
Sheaf 8
Hamer 8
Shipley 7.5
Godden 8.5
Biamou 7

Imagine if someone told you early in the league 2 season that in 3 years we’d be beating the run away championship leaders with Shipley Biamou and Hyam playing a big part, credit to robins and co for the team selection and subs, hopefully this gives the lads a bit of belief because they are definitely good enough!

Marosi - 8 - much more confident, excellent performance
Dabo - 7 - great to have him back and still so much more to come
Rose - 7 - excellent defensively and when bringing the ball out of defence
Ostigard - 8 - top player, strong and commanding
Hyam - 7 - great again, shame he couldn’t do more for the equaliser but covering other’s mistakes
Giles - 8 - what a performance, offers so much offensively and has genuine quality
Hamer - 7 - industrious with some great moments of quality, hard not to really like him
Sheaf - 8 - I thought he was our best player against Swansea and Middlesbrough, and he was arguably last night. Made for that position and growing in confidence. Error wasn’t great but a lot still went wrong after for Joao to score
Shipley - 7 - seemed sharper and more energetic last night, making advanced runs + ball retention a lot better
Biamou - 7 - worked his balls off, held the ball up, exactly what we needed. Miss was criminal, but suspect he was f****d by that point
Godden - 7 - great finish and a much improved performance with some foil up top for him.

Overall work rate and competitiveness was class. Still lacking a bit of finesse and quality but hopefully this gives everyone a much needed confidence boost.

Always like to reflect a day or so after a game, this was a real team effort and against a slick quick moving good team too, m-o-m overall for me was young Sheaf just a bit of a bummer that that one sloppy pass led to their equaliser but on a positive he didn’t let it effect him, that’s the sign of a good player. I think this win gives MR a poser too as imo McCallum and Giles are both worth a place in the first eleven and with Dabo back a real but nice problem for Robins. Playing two up front worked, Max up top gave Godden a bit of time and space in which he thrived he had a good game too.
On a negative we need to be a bit more savvy re. cautions we are coming across smart players who know how and when to fall to influence the ref, we have young inexperienced players, they will learn.

Marosi 7.5 - two excellent saves, especially the free kick!
Dabo - 7 great going forward not as good defensively. Looked much more mobile
Rose - 7 his bringing the ball out of defence is why other clubs would look at him. Great goal saving header
Ostigard - 8 really surprised to see him play mcfadzeans role and showed exactly why. He’s much more mobile and as good in the air
Hyam - 7.5 another very good performance defensively, covered Giles so so well
Giles - 7.5 best performance of the season for me. Much more astute defensively against Aluko who looked a real handful
Sheaf - 8 Has everything for me. Sometimes gets caught in possession but his improvement has been rapid in a team up until tonight that has struggled
Hamer - 8 more aggressive tonight - he’s a nasty shit but very smiley. He needs some Denis wise lessons. The ref had it in for us but his yellow was stupid
Shipley - 7.5 on his game he adds something no one else does in our squad. I’ll take him missing a tackle if he sets a goal up in each game
Godden - 8 never stops and starting to look sharp. Great finish, clever assist. Leads by example
Biamou - 7 I love him I make no apology for that. Could and should have scored but his hold up and ability to bring others into the game fully justified his first appearance of the season.

Subs

McCallum - 7 looks like a championship player. Norwich must have a very good team for him not to be considered. Great strike and shows you have to have a go
Ohare - 7 does what he does well. Harried and went on runs with the ball. He should watch their players tonight and win free kicks and buy bookings.
Allen - too short .......... a time on the pitch but harried well

Robins and Vivash - 9 wonder who came up with the Biamou change? Far from a no brainer. Robins has shown no mercy for Kelly and mcfadzean so Baka got first look in and Walker would probably be next but no Biamou

As someone else said hyam biamou and shipley were playing in league 2 three years ago and you can argue about their merit at this level. Last night they didn’t look out of place

MOTM for City?

Easy. Their goalkeeper. Should never have assisted Godden’s goal and imagine on here if Burge had let McCallum’s through his fingers!

Take the win though and move on!

Mccallum can beat a man as well can't he. Done it a few times either his touch looks a bit heavy but he gets there or it's intentional but he also has the confidence to do it

Shipley was much much better last night so credit to him for that but his continuing shitting out of tackles is pathetic for a pro footballer, but the whole team were great last night a few nervy moments but what a way to respond to the last few results.
We lose to Blackburn 4-0 who then lost to top of the league Reading 4-2 then we beat an unbeaten top of the league 3-2 crazy but I'm loving it :)

Who even picks motm? Means fuck all. I've said I thought he played well I just don't trust him yet. Dabos bad pass didn't cost us a goal sheaf did that's why

You’re blaming sheaf for that goal?

Lucas João scored an inch perfect goal from 20-25 yards with 3 players around him.

Sheafs stats for the game:

85% passing accuracy
3 interceptions
8 possessions won
1 chance created

You’re nitpicking.

Would we have lost 4-0 to Blackburn had we not had a red card? Probably not.

It was too early to say, but before the penalty incident, we looked alright - having just hit the post, too.

Maybe we needed that result and Tuesday as catalysts to have Robins smell the coffee

It’s a balance, isn’t it?

On one hand, you need to trust the players you’ve picked and tinkering too often hurts team cohesion and so on. On the other, when something isn’t working as planned, something needs to change.

My view is that, from the post-match reaction v Middlesbrough, you could tell Robins was particularly disappointed. In some of the other post-match reactions, I didn’t get that feeling.

He tried playing 3-4-1-2 v Brentford and didn’t really work, so switching to 5-3-2 last night made sense.

We looked good, and Robins deserves credit for switching it up.

As much as Matt Mills was a knob last night he was right that Reading should have come ready to steamroll. My big concern was that the players’ heads would be down but he and Viveash must have spent as much time motivating them as on 5-3-2. Their manager seemed calm but I think they needed a rocket up their arse

We already did, but having the 2 AMs higher up the pitch meant that Hamer nor Sheaf could press without leaving gaps in the midfield.

Personally, I think Allen’s best performance this season was when he played deeper vs Swansea. So the argument for 5-3-2 is a lot stronger than the 3-4-2-1 we’ve been playing.

We need the two strikers, because it is not apparent we’ve got enough goals from elsewhere on the pitch.
