143 deaths today. Not exactly weakening...

I'm thinking that now there are more cases again not only are people more likely to get it but they're likely to be exposed to it by more than one source, increasing the overall viral load and thus making it harder to fight off. Plus as it inevitably seeps back into those more vulnerable groups it's going to start going up more sharply in the coming weeks. I hope I'm wrong and we don't get to the levels before but I'm preparing for some potential horrible numbers in the coming weeks and months.

A good question. Just for starters I would look at the petitions for Govt and choose the one which increases Utility but des not come into conflict with ECHR.

Sunak is only seen as competent as he is compared to the other clowns in the cabinet. He's a lightweight. Sadly for the Tories they got rid of any one with an once of ability.

I read somewhere that deaths were increasing by 6% a day over last month. Very steady figure. Seems local lockdowns have done nothing to push this figure down but just try to hold the virus at bay for as long as possible.

This seems back to front to me. Shouldn't the numbers dictate what tier an area is in, or at the very least shouldn't this be centrally controlled and not something thats up for discussion? Council's shouldn't be having to approach the government to be moved to the most suitable tier.

Disagree, it should always have been a local decision made locally. All central government should do is enable these decisions and provide resources for them to be enacted.

The person who chaired the report said:

"This is not a prediction - but it is a possibility.

"The modelling suggests that deaths could be higher with a new wave of Covid-19 this winter.

"But the risk of this happening could be reduced if we take action immediately."

I know a few weeks back this report was being followed slightly mocked by some people on Twiter filling out the difference between the predicted and actual information.

I'm going to have a look around Twitter to see if this information is still being done.

It does make it sound like the government is doing stuff whilst the virus is growing to a point where people are dropping like flies all over the country.

tbf, schools seem the major centre of transmission.

If i can remember correctly it is estimated to be a 0.4 reduction in the R rate for schools closing.

The number for non-essential business is strangely missing from these lists but non-essential offices is 0.4 as well.

The frustrating thing about this is uni education is by far the easiest to move online. Fewer contact hours, motivated students, more resources. Decision to send them back feels largely based on keeping accommodation providers happy.

What they're doing is exactly what members of Sage were saying here in interviews over the summer. If you want to open schools something else will need to close to compensate. Of course that was ignored and we tried to open everything up and came up against another 'nobody could have predicted this' situation.
