Anyone else work in retail, specifically anywhere not selling food? Hows business at the moment? The place I work is as quiet as I can ever remember, today in particular would be a bad day any day of the week let alone a Saturday. People do seem to be giving my town a swerve at the moment even though we have no known cases locally. If Coronavirus does hang around for a couple of months there could be tens of thousands of people out of work because the trade just won't be there to keep shops open.

It's bad enough wondering whether i'm likely to pick it up and transfer it to my wife who does have underlying health issues (Pneumonia knackered one her lungs 4 years back and she suffers bad asthma on top) and my 16 week old baby but now i'm looking a pretty real prospect of being out of work too. Awesome.

Wonder what the effect of reduced GDP is/will be on the world mortality rate, as a result of social isolation, vs sars2.

I know someone who works at Wilko. Very, very busy.

BREAKINGUK deaths jump to 21
The total number of deaths in the UK from coronavirus has almost doubled in the past 24 hours, going up from 11 to 21, the National Health Service says.

There has been a suggestion in media that 20% of Chinese population have been infected.
Circa 270M
Potentially circa 4k deaths
I make that 0.000015 %
Not saying that is reliable but would someone please do the calcs to confirm my No's .
Applied to our reasonable worst projection without drastic containment
It wouldn't stack up .
The death total would be ridiculously low .
Ah well thought I'd saved us all the bother .

I don't believe a word from the CCP or WHO, plenty have been shipped off to the concentration camps and will never be seen again. Plenty will be dead in their own homes and their deaths won't be picked up until they're supposed to go back to work, don't forget that the CCP lie about absolutely everything and the WHO is in their pockets, so those figures can't be trusted either. The west will have the closest figures but will still be out by potentially thousands, didn't the experts at the Johnson press conference state that they think 10,000 will be infected by this point, but only a few hundred (750?) have been tested?

Without opening up the calculator, I would imgaine the death toll percent is about that with the figures provided.

Predominantly older gents, all with underlying health issues. I have warned my elderly parents but they just won't listen.

Same with my dad.

I joke that he hasn't washed his hands since 1947 and though that is a bit of an exaggeration, he is truly terrible. He just does not wash his hands before eating food, after going to the toilet. Never.

Case in point. I have now been going round just about every day for quite a while. Last July I saw that he had about a 1/3rd of a bottle of hand-wash left.

If is now March and the bottle still has exactly the same amount in it.

He goes to clinics twice a week, is 90 and never washes his hands. He simply will not listen.

Did someone suggest 2-3% drop in GDP across a quarter
Can't remember if that was for a lockdown though.

John is not happy. He should stick to blowing people up in McDonald’s or on a deserted beach somewhere

Same here, my parents are just in the 60's range, but when I told them, they just laugh saying they haven't even had a cold in years, they won't even let me do their shopping for them or anything. I am worried they won't be able to fight it if they do get it.

Yes I need counselling from your stupid. Coronavirus and flu are two different things. Try not to have such a reaction to facts.

Also why are you talking like a pirate?

Sound to me like not washing your hands works then. The blokes 90!

Really? Wow.

Yeah. He’s stopped driving at night now. But he’s not one of those who would continue regardless. So it won’t be much longer.

Plus he’s got an automatic now. So it’s not even really driving.

Tell that to my wife.

Just come back from Sainsburys (thought I'd avoid the masses, which had far more to do with not being caught up in the contagion of fear rather than SARS). It would appear that after loo roll (aisles 100% stripped) and hand sanitizer, then the other major must-have is crisps. Good to see a nation ensuring that it keeps fit and healthy over the coming weeks.

French closing restaurants, cafes etc. from this evening.

Just driven back through centre of Budapest and it is very quiet - normally rammed.
Supermarkets here putting out automatic hand sanitizer dispensers that have to be used before you can enter.
Finally closed the schools. Govt apparently considering quarantining whole city from next week.
Main hospital shut down wards and quarantined doctors and nurses after getting infected. (didn't have enough masks available!!)

Concerts now all cancelled this really is becoming a joke - it reminds me of the 80’s when we were told to hide under tables if a nuclear war happened

Not after any xenophobic responses and not asking it for reasons that are the same, but, do you blame China for this and believe that the Chinese state ought to support the rest of the world to the greatest extent possible to mitigate this?
