Match Thread Southend United vs. Coventry City Match Thread - Saturday 15th Feb (2 Viewers)

I don't like this "we should be beating" -insert team- bollocks, Bolton away springs to mind when we came unstuck (albeit with very questionable offside decisions against us).

I'm glad the players and Robin's don't have this mindset.
If we want to go up automatically we should be beating the team that has accumulated the fewest points in the league. The important thing is not to be complacent and think it’ll be a walkover.

I’m sure Robins will prepare the team just as thoroughly for Southend away, as he will for Rotherham at ‘home’. We can’t be complacent for any game, no matter the opponent.

After the 1-0 loss at Tranmere and 0-0 draw at Bolton, he'd be stupid to underestimate any team in the league regardless of their players and/or form. In League One anyone can pick up points from anyone. To be honest this applies right across the English football pyramid. Realistically we need to treat every game like a cup final from here on out if we are successful at achieving promotion.

I think Robins will not alter the team too much on this one would not be surprised if team is unchanged but think he will probably make just the one change Godden in for Baka - maybe Giles for McCallum but I doubt it as MR praised the whole defence post Pompey game,

Think we will line up

Marosi
Dabo
McCallum
MacFadzean
Rose
Hyam
Kelly
Walsh
Allen
O'Hare
Godden

Subs: Wilson, Giles, Mason, Shipley, Westbrooke, Baka, Biamou.

Long trip to Southend,, want them nice and fresh for this one, sounds like the weather is going to be crap, does the team go down on the Fridays for these long trips and stay over ?

For a fixture like this, they'll train Friday morning then MR will announce the squad. They'll travel Friday afternoon arriving around dinner time. Team dinner and overnight before leaving for the ground about 90-120 minutes before KO.

This. Hope they make a decision on Friday, as we're setting off at 8.30am. Really looking forward to the day, but if I'm honest, i'd rather the game was called off if there are going to be 40-50mph winds, as that can only hinder us. Sooner play them when the weather has zero effect on the result, as then we will beat them.

To be fair, it would be windy for both teams!

One thing that may come into play, they are playing on Tuesday too, so they will have to be savvy with their squad. That will be 3rd game in 7 days.

I doubt it. As it stands their squad is paper thin. They were forced to play multiple U23s against Peterborough due to injuries so they won't have the option of being savvy with their squad.

No game is easy in reality, especially with the wind as potential rogue variable. But even so, I’m confident of a victory.

I posted on a previous thread that this would be the game for MR to change things due to form/fitness if required, but actually we have a week’s break so unless anyone is carrying a knock then I wouldn’t change anyone just to give them a rest.

I would like to see Giles given a game - he’s been well hyped and with McCallum not being as on form offensively recently, then it could be the right time to do it.

I’d keep the rest of the team the same. I understand the calls to go two up front, but Allen and O’Hare in the 10 roles is already quite attacking. We always have the option of Godden and Biamou off the bench if needed.

2-0, Bakayoko, Allen.

If the game goes ahead in strong winds, and if it is blowing from end to end, I would be tempted to go 2 up front when the wind is behind us - but am sure MR/AV can work it out for themselves.

Unless the forecasts change, I can't see the game going ahead and adding more to our backlog of fixtures. But a weekend off for the lads could be seen as either a welcome break to aid recovery or a chance to loose the momentum we've already got going.

So it’s sold out with 1528, the full allocation gone. However, there is now ‘pay on the day’ also in the north stand. I presumed the whole end was 1500 ish? Odd. Anyone know the crack?

The weather isn't forecast to be as bad as last weekend. I'd be surprised if this is postponed when last week went ahead.

I'm sure if we ask Southend nicely they will let us announce our team after we know which way we will be kicking.

Last weekend the worst of the weather was on the Sunday, not the Saturday. Man City v West Ham gpt postponed with fans safety cited. Our game could be same same given that they have said the winds are going to be worse on the coast.
I wouldnt want the game postponed for that reason. I am travelling to the game and I take the view that I do it at my own risk.

Looking at the games we have coming up this is one we should try and attack. But games are not played on paper so we need to treat it like any other big game.
Looking at Rotherhams run in they have very favourable games so hope they start to drop some unexpected points
