Wouldn't catch me on one of those little rickety planes. Bad enough on proper planes thinking they are going to break.

They are not much fun been on one in Venezuela as well and we flew for hours in it

Very sad news

He was a good goalscorer in ligue 1 so i expected him to do well here, regarldess of talent though its incredibly sad anyway

Pray for a miracle but it doesnt look good

Do they not have GPS that report back somewhere central every second?

That way they can see where the GPS last reported from and look there.

Only tricky bit is the currents of the sea.

A plane like that would have run out of fuel overnight if it had continued to fly. Unless they came down safely somewhere remote (e.g. Exmoor) and it's not been reported yet, the plane would have crashed in the sea. With near-freezing sea temperatures, high winds and rough-ish waves, there would be very little chance of anyone onboard staying alive in the water for 12+ hours.

Hope the above is all wrong but that is how it seems.

Incredibly sad. If he has lost his life, Cardiff will be checking their insurance cover as they need to replace him asap and will have committed a lot of money. Not important in terms of the big picture or what theythey say publicly, but behind the scenes they will be running around like madmen to work out where they stand.

Top football players are flying off to places left right and centre all the time on them little planes especially during transfer season it’s a wonder this hasn’t happened before. Very sad news, I fear the worse.

Cardiff said they weren't going to play him in a central role. Apparently he's poor in the air and on the wing, goes missing for long periods, so they though he'd be more suited if they deployed him in the channel …

… coat please!

Perhaps not, but if we can't make jokes about overpaid footballers that had literally no impact on our game and lets be honest, none of us had ever heard of before a couple of days back then we might as well pack up!

I think you might as well pack up. What a stupid thing to write.

Not looking good for him. Would be a tragic loss of life. Especially someone of that age.

I'll bet you're a lot of fun. No need to step away from the Sol thread to get involved in another cyber war, now back you go to
your casual racism.

Please point to a single example of casual racism posted by me.

Back on topic - how would you feel if one of our players was missing after a plane crash and Cardiff fans were joking about it on their forum? You'd probably label them a bunch of bellends.

1) It's not our player
2) He never played for Cardiff
3) I wouldn't go looking on another teams forum to try and find something to be offended about
4) It's a joke!
5) Cardiff fans are bellends
6) Craig Bellamy
7) You're a racist

Nah, that would be if I suggested he was no good in the air, or on the wing or that he went missing for long periods, but thankfully I didn't go there.

Point to anywhere where I have made racist remarks please.
oh ffs you're far too serious I was following on from your argument on the SC thread! It was clearly a joke, although you are protesting a lot ….

You need to be careful - with a text-based medium like SBT things like that don't necessarily come across as a joke. If you didn't mean it then fair enough; I'd encourage you also to re-read the Sol thread as clearly nothing I posted on there could be deemed "racist". If you thought someone was groundlessly accusing YOU of racism, you'd protest about it too, I can assure you.

In the meantime and back on topic, it seems hope is fading for the two people in the plane. Unless they've washed up onto some rocks and are awaiting rescue, it seems almost certain they'd be dead from exposure/hypothermia by now, even if they hadn't drowned after the crash or died on/after the impact.

Everything points to them not being found alive. Thoughts are with their families, Cardiff and Nantes.

They did and I did protest. It was CC4L so I simply blocked him and set to ignore. We don't agree on much anyhow so I don't miss his posts.

It's very sad news, but as usual you get the OTT almost faux outpouring of grief.

I saw this morning a Cardiff fan's message on a sheet laid at a memorial 'Forever in our hearts'. Nice thing to say of course, but they only signed him on Saturday and he hadn't even played for them yet.

Almost half expecting someone to put 'Cardiff City legend'.

Very tragic for a young man to lose his life in such a way for sure, but I am never keen on the OTT stuff, such as when any comedian dies they always have to be the funniest comedian ever.

We might feel differently if it was someone we'd just signed for a club record fee, someone we were desperate to play for us and to keep us in the league, someone who had joined to great fanfare. On their forum the Cardiff fans seem pretty cut up about it.

I also didn't realise until just now that Cardiff is twinned with Nantes. The ties between the two cities will become stronger than ever as a result of this tragedy.

You are contradicting a bit. Saying they are gutted because they paid loads of money for goals and he's now died as opposed to a person dying

Aside from that, it's now coming out he had fears about the safety and also sent messages from it saying it was falling apart

On the first point, I think it's a mix of both tbh. Let's face it, if it wasn't for the fact he'd signed for them Cardiff fans wouldn't be more affected by this than the fans of any other club including us.

On the latter, we should take that audio with a pinch of salt until it's been verified as genuine. Even if it was him, we have all probably joked about crashing/airworthiness before boarding a plane so I wouldn't necessarily read anything into that. I wonder if there was a problem with the pilot e.g. heart attack - can't think of another reason why they didn't send out a distress call if they were in trouble and knew they needed to ditch. Initially it was reported that red flares had been seen but this hasn't been mentioned subsequently.

It's also been said he told people it felt unsafe on the way over to France from Cardiff too.

If that's the case, I would have refused to get back on it and driven or got a normal flight.

Seen it said, no idea if its been verified as true, that it took four attempts to take off. I'd have been saying no thanks I'll find another way.
