I know the owner sold the ground off to the Port Vale bloke, but who owns the actual club now?

Things never seem to get any better over there. Are they just badly run or is there an underlying issue?

Still if they go bust and Wasps kick us out ...

Ground Owner is a city fan, was at all of our friendlies as well....

Players not paid, no hot water, generators sabotaged etc.

I think they were being kept afloat by the ground owner port Vale geezer but got grassed up to the FA and he's had to pull investment.

Or alternatively, Wasps move there.

Think we may have to move them back to London in stages.

It’s very sad and has been coming for some time. One of my old clubs. One or two individuals have a lot to answer for. The club was thriving but too many shit decisions by people that knew best has led to this.

In last weeks Non-League news paper

Crisis-hit Nuneaton Borough are on the brink – National League North club won’t survive unless saviour is found
"With no chairman or directors, the National League North club is effectively a rudderless shell.

Previous chairman Lee Thorn had put the club up for sale at the back end of last season before selling their Liberty Way ground to Port Vale chairman Norman Smurthwaite and resigning his directorship of Boro Leisure Ltd at Companies House.

Money from sponsorship and season ticket sales means wages have been paid on time this season but after this month the well is running dry and there are fears over their long-term existence.

Although a dispute with the electric company is thought to be close to resolution, the ground is currently being powered by a generator.

When it ran out of diesel before the FA Cup draw with Brackley last Saturday, the team-talk had to be conducted in near darkness."

An obvious question is where has this season sponsorship and season ticket money gone along with the money from selling the ground?

I assumed the previous owner (might still own the club) sold the ground separately?

It says he resigned as director of the club, so who's running it now?

That's what I'm getting at. Did he pocket the money for himself and then walk away?

Whats this Port Vale chap like, reasonable? Do the fans just need to keep the day to day going to at least buy them time or will he be demanding silly money for rent?

I don't even know if the fans own the club and control it now. I did notice their official Twitter was rting stuff from fans that they probably wouldn't about themselves if it was them.

That club has been in crisis for longer than us and that's saying something. They should have installed me as manager, I've got them to the Championship in several editions of FM

Madness. How does a club at that level get to be spending £17-£19k a month on wages they physically can't pay?
They only signed Baker a few weeks ago. Don't imagine he's a low earner at that level and they must have been well in the shit by then.

Looks like they average 3 home games a month with crowds around 500. If they were all full price non-season ticket holders that would only be around £18K. Well short of the wage bill before you even consider running costs. Can't imagine sponsorship brings in a huge amount at that level.

Wonder if all clubs are spending that much.

Spending thousands more than they bring in. Who has been signing the players and agreeing contracts?

It all seems pretty strange

Him buying it seems a bit random.

I can't see it being worth much for housing. Especially not with the beef with the rugby club.

It seems odd that someone like that has bought it. But is there even the slightest chance it would be viable.

Realistically you'd need 15K, trying to think back to our games there in the past. Would there even be enough room to bring it up to the required standard.

That's before you even consider planning and who would pay for it.

There's no room at all. Especially when the rugby club have the rights on one side so they block the doors.

Then there's access, it would bring the industrial estate to a stand still over 1k.

I don't know what the minimum would be to get it to league standards though considering some of the others.

The rugby club land would need to be bought before any expansion could even be thought of you would think.

A rough guide to liberty way.

I don't know the exact boundaries - these are just a guide. I only assume Nuneaton Rugby own all this land as it looks looked after ie cut grass and rugby posts on the cut areas.

Christ, didn't realise it was that restricted.

What would need to be done to make it to football league standard?

Reckon you'd have to buy some land off the rugby club and then pretty much build a ground from scratch. If that was on the cards might as well build a new ground in Cov.

The ground itself can’t really be extended beyond it’s current footprint. The other major issue is the RC’s clubhouse that is opposite the dug outs.

Dont think you would fit a stadium on there when you take into consideration the parking it would need.

Wasn't there talk that they would have to reject promotion a couple season ago? when they were doing quite well under Kevin Wilkins, as they couldn't afford/weren't going to be able to upgrade the stadium.

With river and stream it looks that the land is awkward to build much of a stadium there....certainly not one with a capacity of 15k+.

I will ask my dad he worked for the company that built the ground but not sure if he worked on there

Why would a non league club want a 15K capacity, its currently ~4.6k and the crowds this season are around 650, I swear they regularly used to be double that a few years back but even then the ground was quite big enough.

Currently the ground fulfils requirements to start a first season in the EFL In the unlikely event of promotion but they'd need quadruple their existing seating capacity from 500 to 2000 and bump up the total capacity to 5000 to remain in the league.
