Wasn't it on a private group chat?

Have comedians like Frankie Boyle who also joke about rape performed at Warwick Arts Centre?

Not saying it's in good taste but on the other hand don't see the massive outrage / offence.

It's the way of the world now though.

Same as people have been sacked from their jobs for things they have said on Facebook privately.

Guessing for Warwick University they will feel this reflects badly on them.

Yeah but they have had Frankie Boyle perform there...

It's a bit insane now that a joke between mates can be taken out of context and blown up massively.

They need to be more selrctive within their groupchat.
Comes hot on the back of all that racist crap at Exeter Uni ,so expect they could be in trouble.

Was that the one where they were chanting racist stuff outside the girl's room?

You'd need to know the context of what and who prompted the subject of debate sounds like someone, something has got on their tits and its a reaction to Someone's rights that they object to .

It's horrible stuff, but at no point reading it does it seem like some kind of serious plan. Shock jock stuff by a load of edgy twats.

On a lighter note my son told me recently he was now at Warwick University. I asked him what was he studying there ? He cracked up laughing and said he was labouring on a site on campus. He said his mum was telling her friend he was a student there !

Well I'm guessing you guys wont mind if it's your daughter that they're talking about - or one of her flat mates especially if she was a p**ki ! I cant believe anyone can believe this is just banter - or even it's fine as its locker room banter or on a private platform. This is the way these morons think about women - all women, your wives, daughters girlfriends etc etc. I hope they get kicked out.

It happens.

I was in a pub years ago waiting for my eldest daughter. Met a couple of lads I knew who were with others. A couple of the others made a few comments I didn't like. So I told them so.

This tall very good looking young lady walked into the pub. They were like dogs on heat when they saw her. When she walked in our direction one of them started blagging her. I said to him that I thought he didn't like pa**s. She turned to me and said 'what was he saying dad'

Had a couple of other occasions. Lads saying one thing and being the opposite when they met my daughter. Suddenly the colour of her skin doesn't matter. All bravado most of the time. But they still get a piece of my mind.

But I am still not in the mindset of them losing out on their future because of a few misguided comments unless it got real bad. Education to me is the best way. Then if anything else happens again they have nobody but themselves to blame.

Sorry If you mistook my Locker room comment out of context, I was exposing it sarcastically to the level of Trumps defence and I think he's thoroughly disgusting too.
Apologies If I appeared glib.

I got your drift, Wingy. ;)

My 'It's just banta' was obviously sarcasm too.

If I caught my son engaging in this kind of 'banter' he would get a fuckin' slap, I guarantee you that.
Mine have grown up having a big sister who isn't white. They don't even notice until they are older. Then when they do notice they also know that everybody's the same. The only difficulty I have ever had is one of my lads getting into trouble a few times for not liking what was said in front of him.

A lot of it is down to how parents were as they grew up and then bravado amongst friends.

Just like what started this thread off.

Out of order and the punishment fair and proportionate imo, but I don't agree with them being 'outed' and publicly named and shamed.

Something doesn’t sit right with me about the state policing private conversations, but I suppose it’s no different to talking loudly with a window open and someone hears you, then I suppose it’s different. Funny one. Obviously they’re a bunch of cunts, just not sure that should be illegal.

I think it's people with access to the group who have raised separate issues so it's not quite to the stage of Big Brother watching but more some terrible people not knowing their audience. Seeing some more of the screengrabs though, fuck them and whatever they get.

Yeah that muddies it a bit. But should you get in trouble for something you said at a party that someone else hears? I’m still not sure. The line between private and public conversation has been blurred by the internet.

Even this place I see as closer to a pub talking with mates despite the fact it’s open for anyone to see.

Yeah, maybe, but I am still careful what I say here and would never attempt to be offensive.

Slightly off topic. Why is it called Warwick University, when its in Coventry ? Whenever it comes on the news they say "here I am at Warwick University. " I'm saying " No it's not its Coventry ! "

They couldn't decide whether to name it for Coventry or Warwickshire, went with the latter and along the way dropped the 'shire' without anyone seeming to mind.

In this case I think so. If I'm in a pub and the next table are loudly shouting about pakis, coons and niggas, laughing at girls who've been assaulted and talking about raping a load of women, I think there's cause to let someone know.

The screenshots are online. While it doesn't read as a threat to actually do what they are talking about its not really a joke either.

Its not a one off comment, its relentless stuff about rape, racism, sex with schoolgirls, violence etc. Not to mention making lights of Grenfell, Hitler, Fritzel and Derrick Bird. Also claiming students who have reported sexual assaults have made it up. Pretty grim reading.

I think maybe my difference comes from the fact that I’m a free speech absolutionist. I don’t think it should be illegal to be an offensive c**t in public.

Half of it's in Warwick District.

I heard a different story, basically that it was supposed to be Coventry & Warwickshire University but there was some disagreement and they dropped Coventry and were quite hostile to Coventry for a while as a result.

Only one I can find is pretty standard mates banter. And it looks like a WhatsApp group, which is a private conversation you need to be invited into.

Obviously it's a bit sick and not really tasteful but a lot of it can be heard with comedians like Frankie Boyle etc. If it was within a private chat it's still a bit different to if they are out in the street saying things.

It's still a massive difference in a group private chat as it is to saying it in a pub.

Obviously it's distasteful but I dread to think about some of the conversations over the years that were private, even more so when somebody cranked Sickipedia open and read the jokes out.
