Looking at our other fixtures, home and away, I’d definitely take a draw v Notts County, and probably a draw at Newport. The optimist in me is hoping Newport’s standards drop now they’re safe from relegation, but too far adrift from playoff contention. We’ve also got to be determined to avenge that loss earlier in the season.
If we're trying to avenge earlier losses it's a good job our run in consists of mainly "bottom" teams

Surely if we win our game in hand over Notts County and then beat them at their place, we will be 1 point clear of them - so actually we can finish above them, even if they win all of their other games?
Spot on
There’s probably about 6 teams that if they win all their remaining games would mean promotion
You would need to be a mathematician or a four year old child to work it out

You're right in saying it's not an impossible task, but it's certainly a difficult one. In the last 3 seasons 3rd place in League Two has been secured by a tally of 85 points. Given that there's 9 games left and we're on 61 points, that's 8 wins out of 9 to guarantee us an automatic spot. Obviously the potential points average for 3rd place is going to be lower this season as the league has been relatively tight throughout. But even so, it's a big ask for a team who have struggled to consistently dominate a game all season.

Our run in doesn't fill me with confidence either, given that we've struggled against lesser sides time and again this season. The Barnet game last Saturday is a prime example. If the gods weren't in our favour on the day we could've easily lost that game 3-0. With 6 teams out of the 9 games to play in the bottom half of the table, we need to make sure we don't repeat the performances of that saw the likes of FGR do the double over us.

I think we need 81/82 points for autos
That means 20/21 points from last 9 games
Means 7 wins out of 9. Doable but very tough.

How are Wycombe doing so well. They're an awful team, easily comparable to Barnet. I actually think Barnet played some decent football at the Ricoh whereas Wycombe were abysmal.

I've said the same. 7 wins, plus we need others to fail too.

Very, very tough.
pro rata the points from the last 5 games over the remaining games and we'll fall just short, but get nearer to 81 than both County and Wycombe!

Wycombe had just one tactic here and it was lump the ball up to Akinfenwa.

Was very surprised as to how one dimensional they were here at the Ricoh.

Accrington have got

Mansfield A
Notts H
Colchester A
Exeter H
Yeovil A
Wycombe A
Newport A
Lincoln H
Swindon H

We could really do with them picking up as many points as possible.

Yep, agree. Let them get out of sight and what a success story that would be for them and a great thing for football too in general.

Would be really nice now if they just pumelled everything in their path.

Be a tough run in that for a normal football team.

Yeah
When they come to play their last two games promotion might be guaranteed
If the title is secured they may down tools

My thoughts exactly.

If it comes down to the last game and we need to win while a rival draws then that is the time to consider the automatic places.

At the moment it just doesn't look very feasible and besides, let's just concentrate on our winning 4, 5 or 6 games in a row before anything else, because that is probably what is needed.

Disagree completely, we have a great chance of Automatics and by that I mean 3rd place, although i do agree 1st and 2nd place are long gone!

3rd place is very much up for grabs by anyone up to and including 9th place.

I have a funny feeling the momentum is building just at the right time of the season. (just like I predicted we will go on good run after 3 consecutive defeats). And others were saying no chance we can can turn around our away form or our form in general. Some doubted even play offs! Well heres some news (we have had a complete change of form). Would have been much better had we held on for a deserved 3 points imo vs Luton.

a) Away form (turned it around) 7 points from 3 tough away games!
b) Our longest unbeaten run currently.

I have a feeling 82 points will get 3rd place. which is 6 wins /3 draws or 7 wins and 2 defeats. Either is very possible looking at fixtures.
It may well be much lower than 82 points for 3rd place.

The confidence at some of the clubs above us is really low. Particularly Notts County/Mansfield/Wycombe. still have a lot to do to get to 80 plus points on their current form.

Big game will be Notts County. We will leapfrog them during that game.

Im amazed Luton have hid the skids and blown there lead to Accrington with the huge gap they had developed. I still think they will win it just.

You have to admire Accrington as a club for what they are achieving this season.

We’re sitting quietly coming coming back into contention at the right time picking up results if not hitting form we’d all like to see.

I fear Swindon tho, they look a good side to win the play offs with the goals of Marc Richards. What a January signing he was.

Who’d of thought two sides in Port Vale and Chesterfield would be in the situation they are in at the bottom reaches of the league last summer when all 4 of us got relegated. Port Vale I thought would give the play offs a good go.

Stevo, agree with you here, its such a tough league to predict anything. Like I said few weeks ago anyone can beat anyone! doesn't matter if your bottom 6/8 or top 8.

Very confident we are on that important run (now when it matters).

I got the feeling everyone above us bar Luton and Accrington are looking over their shoulders very nervously at us.

We should win most our remaining games. there will be the odd blip. as long as our blip is a lesser blip than those above then 3rd place is very much up for grabs.

Great chance?

Really could not possibly disagree with you more. I think just about every single person on here would at least say it's a tough ask.

Fine to be confident we can do it, but, we have a great chance?

We really don't.

We need to win at least 6 out of 9 and hope others fail.

If it were in our own hands there would be cause for optimism, but it isn't. We need Wycombe, Mansfield and Exeter to fail on top of us going on a tremendous winning run.

Not sure about that one.

Wycombe doing well, Lincoln and Swindon have won 3 out of their last 6.

Id love to think this division is scared of us, but reality is we are one of at least 8 teams who think they can go up via the last auto place or the play offs,

great news is our defence still holds up, conceded 8 less than anyone else, and when you have a defence who don't let much past them, we always have a chance

Ok maybe ‘great’ is a lil ott currently.

But yes I would say ‘good’ chance of third place.

A good chance that looked miles off 4/5 games ago.

Take a look at the table 5 games ago. You will see our chances of Automatics (3rd place) have increased significantly. My point being it changes very quickly. Will do again in 4 games time. 9 games is still a lot of games. Fifth of the season still to go.

To think we have little chance or an unrealistic chance of third place is very pessimistic.

5 points off third place with a game in hand (yet to play them). I’d say there’s there’s a good chance in our current form.

I think we should just concentrate on beating Grimsby this weekend, and hoping other results go in our favour, before moving on to the next game.

Absolutely. All we can do is win our games. Every time we win a team or two around us is likely to drop points. Win enough games and we can do it. Big ask but possible. A slip up though this weekend and any optimism will evaporate.

This league is crazy it wouldn’t surprise me if, Cov, Lincoln, Swindon, take 3rd,4th, and 5th places.

And one of Mansfield/ Notts/ Wycombe miss out on play offs altogether. Finishing 6/7/8.

2 massive games for 6 pointers are Notts County and Lincoln on.

Grimsby at home, ex manager, ex centre back, ex striker and not won in 17

exactly the sort of game we would come bearing gifts in the past...

3 points on sat and go from there

Agree one game at a time. they have sacked Slade now.

But we did beat them 2 nil when they had Slade and co earlier in season.

or utterly imploding

Before this current amazing run of theirs they lost 4 in a row. Possibly 5 or 6 losses in a row from memory if you include a couple of the cup competitions they got knocked out on. They did go through a horror run. But they pulled it very impressively.

Still think Luton will win it and part of me thinks Accy may not even get to 82 points themselves.

That Newport away one is on the Friday. Could really do with a positive result from that game.

In an ideal world we would win them all, but we know we won't. By trying to predict how we should do over the next four games just creates pressure. People get overly disappointed at a loss or a draw and then the tougher games just seem impossible and panic sets in. Just take them one at a time.

Let's face it, after that losing run, going into the Mansfield, Wycombe games, we were nearly all waiting for what we thought were the final nails in the coffin of our season (and when Willis was sent off at Mansfield that seemed to confirm it), Since then it has been a fantastic turnaround that we could scarcely have dreamed of and the large majority of us believe (even though we dare not shout it) that we will make the play offs. I'm just going to try and enjoy it - and hope for an even greater miracle (I'm sure I - like many on here - will lose a few months of my life faced with having to go through the stress of play offs)

I have us 6th on 81 points level with Swindon and Notts County, Wycombe automatic, their run in is relatively easy and they have points advantage on us.

I think autos are a stretch too far for us, but it isn't impossible.

We need to win 7 of 9 I would say. The things that play into our favour is many of the top teams have to play each other and points will be lost somewhere.

Wycombe are hots for 3rd place I would say, and I actually hope Notts County beat them. We can catch them up with them still to play, and our game in hand too.

We must also remember we will be playing some teams that will probably have nothing to play for.

This is going to be interesting, but I hope we don't fuck up and miss out on the playoffs...

Of all the teams thereabouts, I think Exeter are the weakest. I really hope they can take points off Swindon when they play them at home shortly (but suspect they won't). Of all the others, I fear Notts County least - and I'm not sure I can tell you why - just don't think they are as scary as the others. If Wycombe lose Akinfenwa, they are nothing either (hoping he pulls a season ending hamstring, although that's unlikely, as he'd have to run to do that)
