Gabby Agbonlahor. Available free? Needs a club. 31. Lives local? Still v good at our level I would imagine.
Jay Emmanuel-Thomas. Much traveled. Free agent? Still only 28? Good at our level, has knack of scoring.

Do we look for this type of player or a punt at an unknown or like Nazon a loanee not in currently in first team squads?

If only we could find someone young and enthusiastic who can't quite make the first team, gets into good positions, knows where the goal is and scores for fun at the under 23 level. Any suggestions?

We have Ponticelli, scored a hat-trick just the other day - can't get in our team!
Why are we preferring a 'striker' who hasn't scored a single goal all season?

Someone like Agbonlahor could be ideal at this level exactly what we need, what would the cost be though ? I would guess about £25/30k a month assuming Villa made the rest of his wages up so about a £100k but other than him any established striker would be a similar cost perhaps we could have asked Man United to throw in one of their young reserves for 3 months when transferring Acadamy youngster McCann the other day

What is that now for Ponticelli? 0 goals in 9 league games? or is it 10 already? You can't play Ponti, McNulty and Doyle in the same team as each other in a 4-4-2. With those 2 up front you'd have to play proper football and the gap between Doyle and the strikers is too big even for a talented lad like Bayliss to cover on his own. It would either need a system/tactics change or Ponti to play instead of McNulty. And that's before taking into consideration the state of the pitches for the next 2 months.

Think that's what people miss.

If you take out Biamou you need somebody who will win headers, hold it up when we hammer it forward time after time. Just changing Biamou for Ponticelli wouldn't work, it then means changing the system to suit him and McNulty both being players who want to play on the shoulder of the last man and need to be put through and chances created.

It's been said for months now and it's happened when Biamou gets taken off that we don't alter the style of play to suit.

The striker recruitment is the most disappointing part of the summer recruitment for me. Individually I was happy with all the transfers made - I even understood the renewal of Beavon's contract as I still think he has something to offer at this level if utilised correctly. When you look how we've set up all season though with either one or both of our central midfielders deep lying, then not having a genuine target man in the squad is baffling.
I genuinely believe Biamou is a not a target man - he's just being asked to do a job there because he's best equipped out of our strikers to do it and Beavon has played really really deep whenever he's played, more like a 10 than a 9. K.Thomas has clearly been deemed not up to the task, Ponti still needs to polish his overall game and McNulty was obviously Robins choice as 9. That means either the decision to set up like we are is flawed or the decision to renew Beavon's contract was - if you replace him with a genuine targetman who will start most weeks and score 10 goals in the season then we would look a much better outfit. At the same time Biamou and Ponti continue to develop as first team subs in a successful team, instead of being expected to perform every week.

We can't sign anyone who has been without a club since last season. We've been there and got the T-shirt. It takes far too long to get to match fitness, and we need someone who can hit the ground running and provide an instant impact.

Does the same logic apply to someone who has been with a club but injured and not played this season? Carl Baker for instance?

Biamou - Conference record - 10 goals in 39 games
K Thomas - conference record - 1 goal in 14 games

K Thomas did score 3 in 14 for us in league one last season

Barrett scored 3 today Ponticelli 2 more I no it was only an under 23s game but surely the way they play could be adapted to the first team at least they are both full of confidence unlike Max.Not saying play them every game but surely a great option.

Off the bench for 20 to 30 minutes is the way ahead. They are promising players, but fans who keep bigging them up saying they should be in the first team are frankly dooming them to failure. They will get a chance and let them take it, rather than fans building up expectation.

Ponticelli looks like a good finisher but the rest of his game is poor and isn't ready to start regularly.

You really think MR would keep ignoring him if he thought his all round game was good enough?

As we've seen with Bayliss, he knows when a youngster is ready, and Ponticelli clearly isn't ready despite the clamour for him on here.

Ponticelli doesn’t necessarily fit into the way we want to play.

Biamou has stood out for doing the ugly stuff - winning headers when we hoof it long etc - although admittedly he’s stood out more for the lack of goals.

Unless we have a plan B, Ponticelli isn’t the answer I’m afraid

Marc Richards: Swindon Town sign released Northampton Town forward

Marc Richards I know he’s 35, but proven goalscorer at this level. Just signed 18 month contract with Swindon.

Remember he scored the winner vs us 2 years ago in fa cup.

Would have have been an excellent signing. On a free transfer.

We've possibly missed out here on a good goal scoring bully who gives a outlet.

Would of been perfect to take Biamou out the firing line.

Yeah he's 35 but he's still got it, worshiped at Northampton.

Swindon doing some reasonable business this window

Ffs should have agreed something with Turnbull going that way.

He scored 18 goals that season they got promoted.

One things for sure with Norris and him upfront there will be plenty of hoof ball.
