Is Moorhouse still here on trial?

It sounds like there is no money left in the pot for permanent signings !! Loans all the way from here IMO

It was a bit of a shame to see we're not signing Moorhouse, but then if MR judges him "not good enough" then I'd obviously rather we didn't take him. Still, I'd like a replacement as we need a first choice foil for McNulty, as I can see Biamu working mostly as a wide-player, Beavon is a bit injury prone and likely to be feature mostly from the bench, whilst we all know about Kwame's injury record. For all the Pointicelli fanboys out there, I doubt we'll see much of him in the first team this season as he's still development squad material.

I agree.

The words being used suggest 'maybe we will look at some signings later.'

The squad is pretty good, but we definitely need 3 or 4 more bodies in otherwise I will be worried.

He's talking about trialists when he says they may look at more later on. You can sign players without having them on trial as evident by the 9 other signings we've made this summer. I seriously doubt that we've decided against signing a young striker from the Northern Irish league because we can't afford him.

No one is 'guaranteed 20 goals" tbf. Plus it's all well and good having various strikers but I don't feel we still have enough guile and creativity over a 46 game season to score enough goals in this division, that's where we really need 2 extra bodies IMO

I really did think moorhouse would sign.

I'm guessing Robin's has been impressed with how good this current crop of young lads are from last seasons u18,s that he won't sign players who he thinks may need more time to develop before first team football.

He seems happy with the striker unit we have -mcnulty biamou k thomas beavon and ponticelli

Thibk it will be wingers and attacking mid that come in. 2 should be enough
He was looking at Andy Williams though so surely that means he still wants one more. Agree we need a creative midfielder, possibly Gary Roberts from Pompey?

Agree with this. With the formation we are playing, Beavon, Biamou, Ponticelli and K Thomas and McNulty are certainly good options for that furthest forward role. I think a couple of attackers who can play in those 3 behind is where we need more depth.

Euro 2016 Prediction League Champion!!
McNulty
Biamou
Beavon
K Thomas
Ponticelli

Maybe MR thinks that's enough and that it was a head to head between Ponticelli and Moorhouse?

Agree that we need more suppliers if Thomas/Reid are off. Not convinced JJ can do it for a season.

I've been a Coventry fan too long to know when particular wording is used...

I think Ponticelli has given MR a lot to think about this preseason and what he showed last year in the u18's and this is why we're not perusing Moorhouse at this stage. There both sound similar types of players only Moorhouse has played the wide role more at this stage of his development but Ponticelli sounds like he is intelligent in his play so could adapt to the role too.

For me we still need wide players having a few options down the middle in the no 9 and 10 positions.

Not as juicy a story though unfortunately.

I don't believe that we haven't signed Moorhouse for financial reasons, I think MR has seen the way some of the youngsters have returned to pre-season (the likes of Ponticelli) and decided that promoting our youth is better for us as a Club, MR only wants player with the quality to improve the squad and that's sensible.

To my knowledge, no-one said he was not good enough!
He scored 11 from 17 for Glenavon in the Irish Premier League, which has to be on a par with L2, so he's a proven goal-scorer.

Moorhouse has only just turned 24! I think he has plenty of time to improve as well.

I don't know about anyone else, but looking at a video of someone's goals and taking them on trial sounds a bit lazy to me. Could show you a highlight reel for Marcus Tudgay and he'd look half decent. Bit of a waste of time in my opinion if you haven't seen him play.

Isn't that the whole purpose of a trial? What did you think of his performances?

We had no scouting department. Would you rather we just stuck with what we had? Agents passing on videos of clients is commonplace. No different to most other clubs.

No obviously not, but surely you have to see him in person before you can make a judgement. A highlight reel can make anyone look good, even me!
