Have to disagree with that.

Other tournaments we have been poor and almost hanging on and not played well at all.

This time out that has been 3 games where we have totally dominated. Big difference for me.

England have looked dominant, but they lack a cutting edge up front for the most part. Far too many shots too close to the keeper and not creating enough chances.

This is where the tournament will really change. Knock out. Teams aren't just going to park the bus anymore on the whole and that may well help us.

I think it is nice to be in a tournament for once where we have totally dominated for all 3 group games.
With the major difference where we would face a decent side rather than Scunthorpe, Patrick thistle and Derry. The new format gave us an easy passage which we made very hard work of

Screw the Welsh and English...sat at home, NI shirt on, Red Hand Ulster draped over my shoulders....damage limitation today and we can still go through...
Wonderful support but their nine lives ran out very quickly. Could have been 5 if it wasn't for a superb goalkeeping performance

Agreed Stu. McGovern had the game of his life...and he's unattached...hint hint TM. Still, I'm happy that we kept it to just one. I was expecting 3 or 4. Just need the Czechs not to win tonight and we're through. I think...

On 21 June 2016, McGovern single-handedly denied Germany 8 goals at the Euro 2016 finals in France. For these and other feats, he is widely recognised as the greatest goalkeeper to ever play the game, and a likely contender for the UEFA Euro 2016 Gold Glove Award.

How did we make hard work of it. It was attack v defence in every game. A little more luck and we'd have had 3 wins.

We were the only team not to beat a very poor Russia side, we created very little clear cut chances against Slovakia. You talk of luck, luck was a whisker away from conceeding last night when smalling chested the ball to no one! Everyone talks about possession but all three teams have sat back and not wanted possession so this is hardly a shock that we had the lionshare of the games but we just couldn't break any of these teams down properly

Russia had 10 men behind the ball v us, against Wales and Slovakia they were wide open.

I agree we should have enough to open up these stubborn defences, but I think when we play more expansive teams we'll get more joy. Mainly because of the immense pace we have in the squad. Having said that we will more than likely play Hungary next. Attack v defence again.

Really like Perisic, would like to see him in the premier league
The whole Croatia team looked really good, and they made 5 changes. They're contenders for sure.
Perisic played for Blackburn at one stage I think.

got him each way for golden boot at 100/1 and had him anytime scorer tonight at 9/2.

Thew downside is I've backed Italy to win it outright so he's just handed them a tie against Spain!

Yep, agree with this. I don't think you can look at how other teams did against Russia and compare to how we did, because they played a completely different way against each other than they did against us.

Against Wales Russia HAD to win to have any chance of progressing at all, so had to play a more open game and couldn't just sit back and defend. This exposed their defence.

Every team against us has parked the bus and closed shop. When these 3 teams have played each other they have played a completely different and more expansive game, obviously believing they could beat each other.

We had 29 shots against Slovakia. That's more shots in one game in the European finals than any other team in 36 years.

If they parked the bus they must have left it in another stadium,

We managed 15 against Russia as well.

At the end of the day, it doesn't really bother me if we play hard or easier teams to progress further, because a bit like Cov, we're not very good and would need a bit of luck anyway.

I feel as if it's a bit amateur from Hodgson to not of done his homework on the group progression, because surely if he'd realised winning the group would mean we wouldn't play any of Germany, France, Italty (now Spain too) until the final, he would have taken it more seriously surely?

Then again Dyke has said he would only keep his job if we got to the semi's, unless we went out to a tough team in the quarters. The route we've took lands us almost certainly with France. Just one more game to win and he'll keep his job then. Shit conspiricy, or just shit management I wonder!

My point is, had we won the group we would have had an easier passage to the next round
Austria, Iceland, Hungary or Portugal is who we will be playing next.

Portugal is the only team there that I wouldn't want to play, but even so from what I have seen they aren't world beaters.

Oh no Jamie Redknapp has just dropped the old line of "we have to play them some time"

I'm still shaking my head at six changes :(

Just be glad that you do not follow and live in Germany, guys... ;-)
Like 2014 the media just talks about how "weak" Germany are, their lack up scoring goals etc...
If they should reach and win the final 2-0, they would moan that they should have won it 3-0...

Keep my fingers crossed for England, as I do support them anyway, but the lack of goalscoring won't take them too far, I am afraid.
But they have a great squad of youngsters with surely a bright future.

Yep.

They parked the bus. Ultra defensive strategy all match to try and get something out of the game.

The more games played the more you can see how 24 teams is a stupid idea. Far too many teams have played defensively just to get points so the quality of games hasn't been great. We've suffered from this but so have other higher reputation teams. 2 from the group definitely makes more sense

Yep, hopefully they will see sense for future tournaments.

I have never not looked forward to an Ireland match as much as this before. Italy will play the reserves and still win comfortably. Even if we a fluke a 1-0 win, 4 points would still leave us bottom of the group if Sweden were to win against Belgium - luck of the Irish eh!

Where is the next generation of players coming from (fingers crossed for our very own Darragh Leahy)?

Fingers crossed they can do it this evening. They have a chance, but must be on top form.

True England have not topped the groups but none of the big nations have lit the world on fire yet, nobody wants to start to quickly you want to build into these tournaments. The winners will be the team that gets better as the tourney goes on not the team that starts on fire. Wales have already played their best football and up against better defences now they may struggle.

Agree Portugal have been poor so far, but it will be just our luck that we play them in the next round and Ronaldo has a stormer
