I still don't agree. We got £25m for Vik at 24 out of the Championship with greater potential and he went to Arsenal after 2 years in the top Portugese league scoring 100 goals.

Wright would be 28 next summer. Still only played Champ level and a different kind of player. As I said, I think we'd get £15m if he gets 25 goals, possibly up to 18ish, but doubt anyone is spending £25m for likely no return.
The initial fee wasn't £25M though. so it appears we are disagreeing over around £2M

Terrific turn of pace over 6 yards for the first goal. I wish he had that much space to play off the last defender every week in the Championship!

I've been a Wright fan since he hit the bar against Leicester in his first game, Desert Orchid in a field of blackpoll donkeys as we used to say! I don't imagine that his agent would be advising him to sign a new contract this side of promotion and the WC though, unless King really breaks the bank. Hopefully he can strike some kind of deal.

The worst opinions on here were people adamant he couldnt play centre forward
Whilst I wasn't in that camp, tbf I thought he was better on the left until this season and that he was only playing CF as Ellis was a waste of a shirt and we had Ephron's quality on the left.

Summer of change next year, either we are loaded and indeed shopping at Harrods or we are selling 3 key players in Wright, MVE and Rudoni. If it is the latter, then is it unreasonable to think we could get high £30's (millions) for them? Rudoni should be circa £20million, Wright I would suggest £12-16 million (at least) and maybe £8-10 million for MVE. We would miss all 3 hugely of course but in this league even 75% - 80% of that amount reinvested into the team is a huge budget for this league. Lets hope is the former though!

Yes, I was fairly sure we had an exceptional player at this level when I saw him do that. Any issues or problems that may or may not have been present since then have not altered my view on his quality at all.

My brother, just by chance, met an Antalyaspor on holiday around that time, they loved him over there. Nothing like a hat trick in your first game!

I wonder if any of the above has changed his mind about him?

😆

In fairness, the above comments were made in the aftermath of his poor showing in the playoffs.

I stand by what I said. He was a disgrace in those two legs.

If he played even remotely close to his recent form, we'd be playing Chelsea or Arsenal this weekend, not Blackburn.

Hopefully fans don't forget this now if he has a run of games without scoring.

Seriously the talk about getting rid of him towards end of last season. Crazy
Frustration at his end of season performances intensified by the playoffs where he was miles away from what people expected. Fitness issues now explain those

I wonder if his miraculous return to form has anything to do with the world cup next summer and the USA having competition for strikers 🤔

I’m sure the home (for him) World Cup is a great motivator but we mustn’t forget that he was out injured for quite a long time last season and I don’t think he ever got back to full fitness.

He was fairly prolific the previous season and he is on fire at the moment.

You missed some great posts from this poster.
Imagine if we had sold him for £1M and he was now playing like this for another team, perhaps a competitor in this league.
Seriously though, people can get frustrated when your star signing isn't playing well, but that often happens.
If he has a good world cup we could probably get somewhere near what we got for Vik if we decided to sell.
Let's not all get it twisted. Haji Has tested everyone during his time here. Yes he's blossoming now long may it continue. His talent has never been in question. He's now matching it it with work rate.

If he carries on this form I will forgive him that header that he put so wide its untrue in the last minute against Sunderland in the second play off semi

I remember someone asking how we could fit both EMC and Haji in the team.

My reply was that we should play EMC on the left and Haji through the middle.

Boy did I get some stick for that from those who thought he could only play on the left!

🙂
Good thing that Frank was correct in his assessment that he was best played down the middle.

Not only that but since then he's clearly done a lot of work on improving his upper body strength and we as a team have done a lot of work on creating better chances for him. We were a little predictable against Sunderland whereas now we are creating chances from more than just good crosses.
Agree with this.

Looks much better at giving us a outlet up top and as a team due to us moving the ball with a higher tempo, create more in various ways outside of using the widith

I was more talking without add ons which was £20 million-ish. I don't think it really matters, although i would say Wolfsburg had a similar bid accepted for Sargent which fell through as the player refused to go.

11 goals/13 games club and country because they count his cameo on the left in the USA's previous friendly. He only got one half-chance in those 10 minutes. I guess he's in the squad, because Poch knows he can play either left or centre now; but are they are going to start with him? If he keeps up the goalscoring form in the Championship, he might have no choice, as the USA seem to be creating chances but struggling to put them away.

yeah, he's been muscling CBs all over the place.

The team also as you say look to be going more verticcal into space behind the defence which suits him really well.

Some short memories here. I think Wright is in the form of his life and deserves all the plaudits but Gyokeres was special and we were lucky to have him.

Whilst I also appreciate it's only one goal against poor opposition and that he's scored many more since, the goal he scored against Wigan was top drawer. There aren't many who have the physique, power, pace, knowhow and finishing ability that he demonstrated there. One of my favourite ever City goals and for that last season we had him, he was immense.
