Selling Rudoni now would be a major disappointment. Key player last season and got better with every game. Unlikely to be a one season wonder with the kind of progression under Lampard. We’ve already started the season and to pull a major player (that you’ve not planned for on replacement) would have a massive impact to the season.

That’s just not how the transfer window works though. Clubs are losing key players every day this week and that will continue until the final day of the window….. in fact we need it to because we hope to temp clubs into selling us some of their key players !

This is very true. I think he is invaluable to our season but no one is chucking that kind of money at him unless he plays like the second half of last season for all of this one.

There's an assumption (from me and likely others) that Lampard wants to keep Rudoni. Seems an obvious view as he's been very good. But maybe, just maybe, he doesn't fit Frank's tactical plan - perhaps any sale would be with his blessing if it means a different type of player is then brought in. We always assume managers want to keep good players, but look at PSG's manager trying to offload one of the world's best in Donnarumma just because he doesn't tactically suit.

But at the same time you have to make sure you maximise their value. You can't improve the squad if you're only willing to part with back up players.

A couple of years ago and the rumours of Sheaf leaving for an eight figure sum and people were adamantly against it because he was one of our best players. I thought for that kind of money it's worth considering as we could replace what he gives for less and strengthen other areas. It now looks like that would have been the best thing to do.

At the moment I think Rudoni could still improve with us and would like to keep him, but if you're talking £20m+ then you have to consider it because you could a lot with that money. I'd also hope that in that scenario the club would be able to press go on a number of deals that are in the pipeline.

He seems to be enjoying his football and i bet if asked would say he has improved faster than at any other point on his career so far. He is playing in front a top fans who adore his effort and ability and is working with his idol. He doesn't come across as though money is his motivation, he just is a young man that loves to play. I think right now we are a perfect fit for him.

In my opinion for what its worth, i see a young gifted player that is improving but knows where he wants to be. He will have ambition to play top level football and knows he is at a club that provides another step closer to reaching his goal.

I think FL plays a big part in his future as well.

He seems to be enjoying his football at a club he like with a squad he fits into. He is a fan favorite and is working with his idol. If he wasn't improving as a player nobody would be looking, but he knows or has good advisors that will see any move a risk. The only way he goes to another championship team is if he gets offered a salary he cant turn down or an offer Doug cant turn down.

In my opinion i dont see hom being about money, i see a happy player who knows the path he is going to take. And is a club that provides another step closer to playing at the top level.

Stick or twist scenario, but for me he is going to be essential to any league campaign this year. With only half a (very good) season behind him, and 3 years on his contract, the ball is very much in our court, but - if we don't make it to the hallowed land this year, it would take a very unfortunate set of circumstances for him to not have at least equivalent value in the next transfer window.

Making the move now would leave us vulnerable to not having a replacement, or being gouged for one knowing we need it urgently. Keep him, build and if we don't make it, I'm sure there will be plenty of interest in the summer.

Its all an opinion and mine is Southampton is a sideways step in his development. Money doesn't seem to be his motivation. And we have just as good as chance as anyone of getting promoted.

Also FL is going to be a big impact on him, now throughout his career.

There's also no guarantee that Rudoni doesn't get a serious injury this season, it's always going to be a risk based decision and to some extent a test of how confident the recruitment team are they have the right targets identified to use the money.

For what its worth id probably keep him unless he demanded a move, but i dont know any of the info that the recruitment team would have about successfully using the money right now.

You give yourself the best chance you can of finishing in the top 6 and then fingers crossed. If that means flogging Rudoni to a top 2 side, so you can reinvest, then so be it.
