I don't think it would be a disaster but I'd rather we bought someone in to cover for Dovin.

However if we have limited funds Lampard will have to decide if that is a priority.

Worried that if we don't bring someone in there will be a temptation to rush Dovin back.
If we don’t bring a decent keeper in it could cost us points early season and we know how bad starts have cost us in recent times.

He will have had a summer to reset. Less pressure at start of seaosn than inns playoff run

Same goes for Wilson

Is it ideal? Of course not. But can they possibly put it together for 2 months between then to help us avoid spending money on another keeper? I think so and maybe it's worth the risk
The problem is they were saying Dovin could be out till after Xmas, and relying on Wilson and Collins could cost us big time as there’s a lot of points to play for before the new year .

We need a new number one. Neither Wilson nor Collins are capable of holding down a place in a team that’s serious about promotion, and there is no guarantee that Dovin will come back either on time or in good form.

I'm yet to be convinced that Dovin is better than Wilson and Collins if I'm honest.
Had to wait a couple of minutes until I could stop laughing before replying to this.

The reason we have 3 senior GK's is Wilson and Collins are just not good enough for a side to be challenging at the top of the table so we brought Dovin in. He is a class above the other 2.

Just like before every season lots of people seem to have short memories. How did our results go once Dovin got injured? If we have Wilson or Collins in goal for nearly half a season we would be lucky to get 6th place. Our defence don't trust them so don't play their usual game.

I agree, I think we need to prepare as if he's going to be out for the season. Anything could happen with that kind of injury. We can't just 'make do' and end up writing off the season.

Wilson starting means Collins is still no. 2 - you're running the risk of relying on him again

No Wilson is no2 and Collins is No3 it's just that the No1 Dovin is injured. You can't knee jerk and sign someone Everytime your first choice player in a team gets injured.

If and when Wilson or Collins gets moved on then that is different.

Yeah it sucks for Dovin, but if the season’s going to be a success you absolutely do not want to be in a position where you’re switching out your keeper six months in for a 23 year old coming off an ACL tear.

In an ideal world you have a keeper doing a solid job from the season’s start to its finish, and that’s clearly not going to be any of the three keepers currently on our books.

I don’t see how Collins comes back from being dropped for the last game of the season and the playoffs. I say that as someone who’s consistently preferred him to Wilson.
The point is more that the coaching clearly preferred Collins over Wilson and don’t agree with the claims that he’s an average or even adequate Championship keeper.

tbf I'd want him and Collins gone and a stopgap brought in with Bell or the new GK as emergency backup 🤷🏻

At this stage of the pre season both are still here. That is the landscape the club have contract wise. So unless that changes - you can want as much as you like.

I think people's heads have been turned a bit by the talk of his recovery being well ahead of schedule.
Hopefully that is the case, but we shouldn't be banking on it.
Personally, given we do have Dovin to return at some point, I think we'll start with Wilson. Though I'm not happy about it, which was the question posed in the OP.

If they go in to the season with that opinion and start Collins then he'll cost us a lot of points unless they've managed to sort him out during the close season.

The thing is, Collins was so wank it's glazed over Wilson. Poor stats last season, poor stats the season before that too and a career mainly as a lower league backup. I don't see him as an acceptable option for a team looking to challenge at the top of the Championship.

Agree, but I'd still have him over Collins any time if they're the only options

I can't stand Collins & Wilson's more bothered about trying to channel his inner Gazza & is poor too so ideally none & a more experienced 'name' to come in - that's not gonna happen though so the clown it'll have to be

Internet point scoring is very tiresome isnt it ?
Somehow "most of us" aren't too disappointed to see Wilson start
But will you be not too disappointed when you remember how much the mistakes cost us again?

We're going on about spending millions on players. Spending millions on a better striker. Millions on making the defence better. But it seems many don't seem to worry how bad we are in a very important position on the pitch. What's the use of scoring good goals to be cancelled out by constant poor mistakes?

Utter nonsense.

It’s nonsense to think that a club that makes a loss outside of player sales will spend yet more money on a goalkeeper. The loan argument perhaps, but taking young keepers on loan also seems a major risk.

Removing all bias, statistically he’s fine too isn’t he. 47% clean sheet record, save percentage above average for the division. His distribution is weak and he’s not as good as Dovin generally. We literally made the play offs with him in net all season and he kept the most clean sheets in the division.

Glad you thought it was funny.

Like I say I'll leave off my opinions in the future and leave it to much better informed people than a IKFA person such as me.

Let's leave it at that.

Also Dovin isn’t playing outfield, he’ll return quicker, more like December/Jan, so could still play a major part in the season.

His confidence and mental side might take a while but physically it’s nothing like the return to playing that an outfield player would go through.

It's just a bit of a laugh, don't take it to heart.
And no doubt they'll be plenty of opportunities to turn the tables in the coming months
