Callum Wilson is going to be a top striker without doubt, and so too is our Geordie hot-shot Adam Armstrong. But talking in the pub at the weekend about which of them is the better all round player, the verdict was split between us all,but I reckon Callum edges it for me. What do you reckon then,Wilson or Armstrong ?

Armstrong has 16 goals in 21 starts. Wilson got 21 goals all season.

Armstrong for me.

Armstrong playing in a far superior side though. ;)

I would say Armstrong. As much as anything Wilson has suffered a pretty major injury. We don't yet know if that will have any long term impact on his game.

that's the most important point. Look who was playing behind Wilson, and you'll see it was a miracle he scored as many as he did.

He had a reasonable level of service and a very good strike partner. He had Baker and Moussa behind him who were decent enough at this level.

Armstrong for me. He has a far better touch, his finishing is much better, and is at a younger age where he will still improve.
Wilson did score them goals in a team which had the likes of Clarke, Baker, Moussa etc, whereas Armstrong only has competition from Murphy for goals.

Wilson playing in this team would score more than Armstrong, unbelievable pace and power matched with a good finish. Plus he was ours!

As much as I am a massive fan of Callum Wilson, I said to my son after the first few games Armstrong was better than Wilson. I've seen nothing to change my mind since. Wilson is maybe more physical but is 5 years older!! Imagine how good Armstrong could be in 5 years- he already is so much more clinical in front of goal than Wilson was or possibly will be!

I never really saw much of Wilson as most of his games were in Northampton but he has gone on to score a few in the prem, at this stage of their careers Armstrong.

Armstrong is a better finisher than Wilson by a mile!! Callum misses loads of chances where as Arma is clinical bar that 1 at Crewe in second half haha.

Wilson was better at stretching teams with his pace, definitely quicker than Arma.

If I had to choose though id go for Armstrong, think he will be a better player long term.

As you can see there's not a lot between them both is there ? Both clinical finishers, pacy, strong, and with still room for improvement as both still young. I may lean towards Callum as he's a Cov kid like myself, but that's wrong as Armstrong is a wonderful talent.

armstrong is better for me. he has pace, skill, tricker, finishing etc. as cole said he is the l1 aguero, and he really does play similar

wilson has pace and finishing. without being disrespectful hes a 1 trick pony, without his pace he isnt close to armstrong for me.

Wilson missed part of the season through injury.

pace will get you firing. but teams would have start putting in specific gameplans for him at some point

i mean if they didnt walcott would be prem top scorer every year

unless what you mean is you dont think armstrong would score in prem when hes wilsons age? in which case i disagree

Wilson just edges it for me, as has proved himself in the Championship and was begining to score a few before injury in the Premier league, but he has gone and now its Armstrongs time.

i thought this was based on potential or judging them both on a certain age( like how they did/will do when 21 etc)

bit harsh to judge them right now when one is in prem and other on first ever loan!

I'd just about go with Wilson because I only ever got to see him score his first goal and was cheated out of the rest. Plus he combines a bit of Armstrong with Murphy's ability to shit defenders up.

Its hard not to look at what Callum has done, if you were choosing now, but on potential Armstrong is a star in the making, if Newcastle look after him properly in the years ahead.
I also think Wilson didnt take an easy route to the Premier league and has worked hard to improve his finsihing in tandem with his great pace.

On that evidence i would go for Wilstrong.;)

potential wise armstrong blows wilson out the water

alot of wilsons goals for cov were long ball over the top, arma can do that too but he can score so many different ones too, some worldies

Armstrong for me.

Wilson had a big injury spell in that season and when he returned to fitness Leon Clarke was gone and Mousa went on strike so the creativity went out of the team and still Wilson was scoring. Something the stats clearly don't account for.

Wilson for me every single time. Bigger, stronger, faster, does more for the team on and off the ball (how many goals, assists and penalties did he have a hand in for Bournemouth last season??). Armstrong has got quality players at L1 level all around him with little competition for goals. Wilson done it in a worse squad with a striker next to him.

I honestly believe Wilson will be playing at a top Premier League side within 3 years. It will be interesting to see whether Armstrong can do it in the Chammpionship IMO, let alone the Premier League.

Agreed. Plus it's not just about scoring goals - Armstrong has 1 assist, Wilson had 4 and Wilson won 5-6 pens that season too. Wilson also scored headers, Armstrongs not even looked like scoring one......I've never seen him head the ball.

Armstrong is class, but he does go through quite spells not just in terms of goals but general contribution and team play (he does run his bollocks off though!), Wilson although missed a few sitters rarely had a bad game even if he wasn't scoring.

How can you say that? Callum Wilson is only young still and looked to have settled well in the Premiership until his injury. He also tore up the Championship last season and had a great (albeit injury plagued) last season with us in L1. Armstrong has had a great half a season but if anything, Wilson looked to have had great potential and has gone on to fulfil this.

Until his injury, had he carried on scoring for fun in the Premier League, people could've been mentioning his name for the 2016 Euros squad instead of Vardys.

Pretty sure it's been mentioned before but once Wilson returned to fitness after his injury spell I'm fairly sure his goal scoring record was equal to when Clarke and Mousa were in the team.

i say it because armstrong looks far more talented to me.

his ball control, dribbling, turns, low level of gravity, 2 footed, finishing etc. add to that he still has pace also albeit not as much as wilson

i really liked wilson, and he was brill in championship and great start to prem, this isnt about putting wilson down, i just think in 2-3 years people will be raving about armstrong in prem too,and imo he has potential to be better than wilson and vardy
