Whip Round for Former Players Association (2 Viewers)

The board had a whip round for the FPA and they got a vastly sum of £834.

Is it just me that thinks that is a bit measly when it comes to the board who are all well known millionaires?

£834 is a lot of money to us and probably many of the former players too, but £834 could have at the very least a gesture of "we'll make it up to a grand". Tbh probably better to have politely refused as somehow nothing almost looks less tight-fisted and they don't "owe" them anything so couldn't have been really criticised.

I know it is a fair whack of money but if I was a multi millionaire on the board of a football club, out of respect for the "legends" I would be generous.

May as well have done a blackout.

The newly formed board probably have no idea about the cause nor who gets what from it. Even if they did make a generous offer, who would get it and how would it be spent? What good PR would they have received? Unless it was mega money and because SISU are unpopular people would still have complained.

Why should we pay for former players anyhow? Even in times of sensible pay, footballers still got paid more than the average man on the streets who was paying their wages. They were blessed with a talent that we would all love to have possessed. I certainly know that a choice between being out their playing and standing on the touchline watching is not even close, so they should be grateful for what they had. I don't think the board or the fans owe them any hand-outs. If people want to give then fine it's their cash but I see them as no more deserving than all the scroungers on the welfare state that I'm already contributing towards with my taxes.

I'll get off my soap-box now.

Oh, I just thought it was for the Association rather than going to the players?

If they're as confused as me I would have thought the former but I have no idea if I'm honest, just spouting off at what I thought it was for. My guess by the title is that it is for former players hwo have fallen on hard times. They have my sympathy, but no more so than the unfortunate all over the country.

Perhaps they could have a whip round for me when I retire? I have spent a lot of time at CCFC over the years and the board probably have no idea who I am!

My apologies, I've just googled it and I think its for the association, you're right. However still not sure what the cash is for and I think the board would get better press for an £834 donation to Geoff Thomas Leukemia Foundation or some other football related charity like that

I am not exactly sure where it goes.

I would like to think it would go towards ex players in need ie. The ex player who is in a wheelchair rather than a Noel Whelan.
