Might get hammered here..... but i think we need a keeper.
Yes, Marosi in some teams of year last year, but so was Burge in our L2 promotion season.
I have said to a few before the season started, that Marosi might not be good enough for the Championship.
Last year, we faced (due to our immense back 5) the least shots in Lg1.
This year we have faced 8 shots on target and conceeded 4 goals.
He looked shaky on Saturday and wasn't really tested tonight but conceded 2. (Pen seemed to go through him!??)
OK, so he can play with his feet, but think he is just an average shot stopper who doesn't really command his box.
This league is a step up!
Would love to be proved wrong.
Thoughts??
How the fuck was he meant to stop the penalty. He absolutely twatted it at him, same with the Second goal.

Which are how much? People claimed we wouldn’t be able to afford O’Hare and yet he’s ours.

Walsh is at an age where he needs to play weekly. I’m not certain he’ll get that at Bristol this season or in the future. He loved it here. He’d slot straight back in the team. We’ve got cash there from the Wilson move. If I were Robins I’d be putting the money in front of them And making Walsh think about his career and playing time.
Rumour was he was on 12k the extra year was taken up in the clubs favour, club and player are in talks over a new deal prob £15k a week O’Hare is probably on around £8k a week it’s nearly double.

Watch back, the double save from the corner, he didn't know the second shot was offside. Absolutely no need to replace him at all.

Also for a Championship club to find an upgrade on his goalkeeping ability but with the same capability of playing it out from the back would cost way more than we have in the budget.

Why pay £10k a week for someone to clean Hamer's boots?

No fault for any of those 4 goals. He’s a good solid keeper and helps us play. His long passing tonight was quality. Now the qpr keeper - they need a replacement
Second goal on Saturday.... not sure.
Have *some* doubts about 2nd tonight. Have seen those saved.
Yes, Sky were questioning QPR keeper before game too.
I agree he helps us play, definitely. But often looks suspect with balls into the box.
Just observations. Said I could get hammered.....

Was going to mention cost to replace in my first post! Agree -
There will be a lot of better keepers than him in this League- Bentley on Saturday for example- but think he cost a fair whack as we have said earlier!
Said I was being controversial didnt I!!!

Edit - I think I missed the double save!!

No.... you'll be surprised to hear that I don't drink.
...was just throwing it out there.
As previously said, cost to replace with upgrade would be beyond our budget.

I guess that as I played in that position (decent ish level) I cast more of a critical eye in that direction....

Because I’d rather have Walsh and Hamer rather than Kelly or Shipley and Hamer.
Isnt this where Sheaf comes into play, I can see him and Hamer being that long term pairing before xmas, I cant see Shipley\Kelly keeping up with either of them to be honest.

You’d think as you played that position that it would be more obvious that a hammered penalty and a hammered shot into the top corner from 6 yards out are pretty difficult to save for any keeper. Not sure how you can even begin to criticise the effort from Marosi there. The pen doesn’t go through him either, it goes over him. He got the slightest fingertip, which was actually pretty impressive.

I thought Allen was poor first half, but came on a lot better in the second. Much like the whole team 2bh
Going to disagree slightly. The team were a bit sloppy in the first half. I wouldn’t even single Allen out. It was the whole team. Not poor, just a bit sloppy. And I actually don’t think it was their fault. QPR were very good. They played high, not allowing us to start moves from the back with the space we normally get. They packed midfield and man marked Hamer. They played with a really high tempo. So, I actually think it was down to them that we didn’t have a great first half. Credit where it’s due. Second half we came out with more energy. QPR stopped doing some of the things they’d done in the 1st half. Hamer had more time and space and was able to control the game for us more.

Haha so let me get this straight, you want another DM, a GK, a CB, a LWB...oh and another AM.

Funny that you named almost every position on the park but left out RWB, which is the only position we have no natural back up for.
Just wondering who all these players will be happy to sit on the bench as back up whilst we pay their wages from the magic money tree

Who said anything about backup? Players go out as well as in you know.

If we did get a McFadz replacement in I’d send Drysdale out on loan. If we got a LWB I’d let Mason go. If we got a young keeper I’d let Wilson go (that’s the only backup I’d sign).

Because I’d rather have Walsh and Hamer rather than Kelly or Shipley and Hamer.

If we had hamer and Walsh midfielder we would get overrun and it wouldn't work... Robins has already said numerous times that hamer is the replacement for Walsh and Walsh isn't coming back

Kelly and hamer will be our first choice (as it should be) with sheaf slowly taking over from Kelly and then Shipley as a backup if needed

You can't have watched the game them 🙈 pulled off a great double save and you can't place any blame on him for either of the goals last night, a dodgy penalty and shit marking.

If anything his command of the box has improved since he has got here and his distribution is so good

I think with our limited budget, a new goalkeeper is WAY down the priority list.
I’m more than comfortable with Marosi, and I’m sure our defenders are too.

Rob Green, who was an international goalkeeper, said Marosi had no chance with the penalty. I’ll take his opinion over yours

2nd half, after we got over giving them too much respect and time on the ball , was an indication of how we're going to approach this season .
Fast flowing all action all over the pitch.
Was fantastic to watch

It’s happening already...didn’t take long lol
Hamer is the man for me over Walsh he will go on to prove that too👏🏻🙌🏻🤩

Problem with Hamer is he will pick up yellow and red cards during the season. If he doesn't control himself he will be suspended for several games. Need cover and of course he may get injured.

Walsh. Not featured for Bristol yet (I think because of injury though?). I’d pop £1M in front of them and see what they say. Even their fans can’t see where he gets game time with the midfield line up they have.

It is very good of you to donate the £1M. I doubt the club have it?

Because I’d rather have Walsh and Hamer rather than Kelly or Shipley and Hamer.
Hamer, Sheaf and Kelly are our 3 main CDM. Shipley is a temporary default to the position. Cov cant afford a massive squad, so players will have to be flexible to help the club navigate injury problems.

Injuries or lack of them may define our season.

Unless two or three are permanently shipped out I can only see one loan coming in, an attacking midfielder. Even if we shed a few I can't see more than two loans before deadline.

Players we could do with shedding are Kastaneer, Biamo and possibly Jobello?

So. 2 league games. 2 cup games

Feel we've seen enough to know what we need from the last 2 weeks of the window.

2 for me.

CDM cover. Another attacking mid in the Allen/Ohare mould.

Purely for depth. Kellys repetitive niggles. If one of Allen or Ogare are out for a while we're lacking there also

Thoughts?

If we got the CDM then Shipley becomes available for ACM and he links well with Godden and is a danger around the edge of the 18 yard box, so concentrate on CDM first and the ACM may not be necessary. We've only just signed Hilssner who's supposed to be an ACM/W as well so unless he's really not impressing in training you'd think he'd get a go. I think MR would also like Bapaga on the bench a bit more to give him a few run outs if possible.

I'd still prefer a more specialist back-up for Dabo on loan just in case. Pask is OK for the odd game but if it were needed more long term it could be something other teams would look to exploit.

Sky_Blue_Dreamer

Someone to play alongside O’Hare in the ‘10’ and more defensive midfielder dependant on Kelly’s injury then maybe another striker with Max and Bala departing

If Max AND Baka were to leave then yes, bringing in one upgrade would be sensible. But I'd be quite happy to keep both if that wasn't possible, Baka has looked more up for it this season and he is willing to chase things down. If he could learn to be more aggressive and use his size more to his advantage than almost apologising for it he could be a very effective weapon. And Max isn't a bad option as a fourth choice.

Sky_Blue_Dreamer

We have Dacosta. I don’t think we need any of them, but that’s where I’d strengthen next given the chance. And I said we wouldn’t need another DM as Robins likes Shipley there.

Dacosta could be out for a while. If Dabo should get injured or having a set back we could have a few months of Pask or similar playing there. Wouldn't want that for more than a few games at most.

I think he's fine. Definitely brought in more because he can play with his feet but his all round 'keeping is alright. Only thing thus far is that due to more pressing he's had to go more direct than last year but at least he's shown a willingness to do it whereas last year he could dally on the ball a bit and create a few heart-in-mouth moments.

Like everywhere if a better option became available of course we should look to do something, but no names stick out at the moment as a likely replacement.
